#Ghost have created something so special, you would almost think they struck a deal with the devil. Since their 2006 formation, the Swedish metal outfit have turned lyrics about defecating the holy eucharist into quaint singalongs, sold marital aids sculpted in the shape of their frontman’s head, performed on late-night TV to an audience of the demonically possessed and toured extensively this summer on a massive stadium run with #Metallica.
Although their lyrics and presentation may heavily revolve around the iconography and lore of Satan, Ghost mastermind, Tobias Forge, opens up on the deeper and more nuanced meaning behind the band's message and his aversion to being provocative for the sake of shock value in this APTV exclusive.
Forge, professionally known as #CardinalCopia, also reveals his ambition to eventually crossover into making films and discusses his lifelong obsession with cinema.

I saw them open for Iron Maiden in 2017. Wasn't going to get into them because of the whole satanic stuff, I'm not into that. BUT when I heard that opening riff to Year Zero, the music grabbed me. When they played Cirice after that, I knew I was hearing pure magic. Tobias is a musical genius and his songwriting skills are excellent. You don't hear music like that anymore. I researched Ghost online after that concert, and then his sense of humor just sucked me in even more! I LOVE his sense of humor, and I adore how he brings it during live shows! I've been to only four shows, but I am going to go to as many as possible next tour. I've met Cardinal Copia three times, and I've met Tobias face to face once, after their concert. He was so very kind to all of the fans who waited for him, he spoke with everyone, signed their stuff, basically took up time with us that he didn't have to; I'm sure he was tired after performing for 2 hours in a hot costume. But he DID take up time with everyone he met. He looked people in the eye and listened to fans. He is an absolute gentlenman. He's the type of guy you'd love to have as a friend. This was a great interview, it is nice to see him speak about things he is passionate for.

Rats was my first song and I loved it instantly. I listened to Prequelle and was hooked on the first listen. Then when I started looking into the band and the Ghost webisodes, I loved all of it. The band's music stood out from the same old boring stuff playing on the radio.

I don't see how anyone under a certain age could possibly be offended by Ghost's imagery because, to me, it's only "evil" in the sense that a Scooby Doo villain is. It's cartoonish, and really, that's why I love Ghost. It was the humor of it that hooked me.

From the second I heard Ghost about 2 years ago on XM's Octane, I was instantly obsessed. Every aspect of the musicianship both on the records and live to the lyrics and different interpretations by different fans, the community and togetherness of all of us fans, the amazing merch to the videos and live performances just makes my heart and mind feel happy. Having a bad day at work? Throw on some ghost. Struggles with my kids' remote learning? Throw on some Ghost. Depression/Anxiety? Throw on some Ghost. My husband and our 2 children love Ghost as well. when i first heard 'square hammer' i had to hear more from ghost and as luck had it when driving across the US last fall caught up with them in sacramento. then i was hooked and fell deep into the black hole of youtube videos and have listened to them every day since. i like the whole back story, the tongue and cheek humor, the references to old horror movies……all of it. brilliant. saw them again in salt lake city this year and am looking forward to what the future holds for this band.

I’ve recently become a Ghost fan in the last two years and I really dig their sound. I think it’s awesome Tobias has unmasked himself, but I also enjoyed the mystery. I find him intriguing and soothing.

So, I heard my friend playing Square Hammer on bass, then he played the music video for that. After that we watch Circe, and I thought it was awesome, but couldn't have called myself a huge fan, just liked their music. Then I saw them live right before Halloween a couple years ago, in a theatre. There was an intermission and everything, and it was a really fun show. I've never felt so connected to strangers in a crowd or to a band like I was when I heard Monstrance clock played for the first time. It was such a beautiful thing, hearing so many people all raise their voices and sing along with a sense of comraderie and interconnectedness. It was from that night I was absolutely a fan. I ons3isted on playing all the songs I hadn't heard through the hour drive home that night, windows down, wind tangling my hair. My best friend was with me and we stopped at a waffle house, and saw people who'd also been at the show, who were all dressed up, and we just sort of nodded to each other and it was a fun moment. I'm so very much in love with the music, the sense of humor, and the general spririt of Ghost (pun intended). Thank you so much for bringing this to the U.S., Tobias Forge. The music and goofy videos and antics have helped me through some tough times. What an inspiring artist. Much love from the U.S. 🖤

I was raised in a Christian home and while I don't really see myself as a member of that faith. I am a very spiritual person and that is heavily informed by my Christian upbringing. Basically my issue is with hatred, hypocrisy and organized religion. Needless to say I dig me some Ghost. They're super tongue and cheek and I love their campy satanism by way of the Catholic Church and pop culture. Plus they just rock. Kiss the Go Goat is the song I'm currently obsessed with.

The bit about masking the Ghost band mates in regards to the 80s era of anonymity is flawless. It makes so much sense. I love it! I thought the initial mystery and intrigue of Ghost was part of a publicity stunt. I had no idea Tobias was recreating what experiencing music was like for him as a lad. Honestly, I like this truth much better than my educated assumption.

I’ve been a fan since Halloween 2010. Seen ghost 6 times since they first came to cleveland with baroness. One of my all time favorites. My first impression was how new and fresh opus eponymous sounded. The obsession came naturally. I also like how they piss off the majority of black metal internet warriors. If a band makes someone so mad they buy a rare copy of their first ep, set it on fire and piss on it while taking pics, the band is doing something right.

Very good band that I just came across (better late than never)! Their hooks are unbelievably catchy and stay in my head. By the various hand signs in Ghost videos and certain lyrics Forge says in his songs, it’s fairly obvious he’s a Mason. Tobias Forge is a lot more articulate than I would have guessed- impressive

I like the concept where here we have a Swedish composer who performs, not just writes and plays. You're getting the best of both a retro metal show and a theatrical stage performance, where the composer carries his performance on every part of that fucking stage!!

Another great interview, very interesting and easy to listen to. I really enjoyed this one. Something I noticed - Either TF is getting some much needed rest or the make up artist did a decent job hiding dark circles and tired skin. He was starting to look pretty fatigued in recent interviews. His eyes still seem a bit weary though. Hope he is enjoying at least a little R&R in between tours.

I'd like to see a musical interpretation of Ghost in film form, like an ode to Metallica's "Through The Never"; but doing it *right* in such a way that you're immersed in the Ghost concert experience. Like, this is what Ghost is, this is where everything is coming from thematically, this is the experience of the music itself; being driven through cinema. Kind of like "The Wall", really; but through the eyes of a fan.

The thing i love about ghost is that he's managed to create this 'lore' around the band without stepping on the toes of Alice Cooper or Kiss... I'd love to see more of this theatrical type of approach.
