Why? He judged a film based on a single trailer to say it's the worst thing ever, and disrespected TWO original Ghostbusters cast members to make his point. He took Rick Moranis out of context and said Harold Ramis was rolling in his grave, when his daughter said to say such a thing is offensive to his memory

Just like people expected Batman and superman to be shit from the trailer alone and then had their fears justified. But there wasn't a BS media campaign to slander the people who found the trailer terrible cause the main character were men.

My dad beat me everyday. My only relief was my beautiful mother. She was so kind and gentle. When I was 4, she was diagnosed stage 3 cancer. After that, my father got even worse. I spent every possible moment with my mother, because my father wasn't as bad around her. Then one day, my mother and I sat down to watch Ghostbusters (1984). At the end, she looked at me, and said "When I die, who you gonna call?". I cried, as that was the last thing she ever said. The original Ghostbusters is the last thing I have of my mother. When I saw the trailer, I got flashback from Patty slapping Abby. I don't deserve that. I deserve better, the general public deserves better. My mother's memory deserves better...

The trailer was bad, but I still would have given it a shot. What really turned me off was the extreme, over the top Feminist/SJW/PC backlash to any criticism of the trailer. The final nail in the coffin was the attack by SJWs, "PROFESSIONAL" news outlets, and celebrities attacking James Rolfe for his opinion and choice to not see the movie.

Does Doug realize that his argument about the original movie lacking in action and just being "men crossing their sticks together" would be like me saying that the Empire Strikes Back is the worst Star Wars movie because it was "the most boringest" and the Phantom Menace is superior because it had stellar choreography in the lightsaber battle?

I think you guys are misinterpreting why a lot of people were hating on this film. The reason why I am refusing to see it is because how Paul Feig, and the main cast were treating fans of the original. No one cared that there were 'chicks in it'. Thats what the feminist were using as a boogeyman to blame the hate on something.

I am baffled by this persisting notion that girls for some reason need female characters to look up to and can't possibly relate to a male character of similar design, backstory, and capabilities. What is with that? Do modern feminists really think that girls are only capable of identifying with women and that boys can only identify with men? How feeble-minded and unimaginative do they think children are these days? Sure, there is something to say about representation, but that's neither here nor there. Those little girls running around with toy proton packs have always existed. My sister and I, for example, would make armor and weapons out of cardboard and other scrap when we were kids so we could pretend to be knights and swordmen, reenacting scenes from Le Morte D'Arthur and The Three Musketeers. We made phasers and Star Trek uniforms and pretended to be Starfleet officers. We spraypainted metal pipes to make lightsabers and became Jedi. My sister didn't need to have it shoved in her face that there were women in Starfleet or that females were just as capable of knighthood and Jediism as males. She had a love for what was already there and could identify just as easily with Spock, Obiwan Kenobi and the musketeer Athos as she could with Lieutenant Uhura, Princess Leia, and Robin Hood's Lady Marian. I, in turn, looked up to Stargate: SG1's Samantha Carter so much that, in high school, I was outspokenly obsessed with science and even thought about joining the Air Force. Some friends still call me "Carter" today because of that. The plot twist: I'm male. It wasn't just a fluke in my family either; I have never had to look far to find girls and boys in equal measures imagining themselves to space rangers, demon slayers, mad scientists, and all other sorts of things. My nephew wants to be a serial killer and my niece wants to be a dragon when she grows up. There's no limit to a kid's imagination, and it doesn't take rocket science to see this. So where's this idea coming from that kids can only identify with characters that share the same genitalia and skin tone?

I think that's because of social norms and expectations. Honestly, I can't speak for other people but I love interesting and diverse characters that are well developed. I don't know what it is, but I love badass female characters. There just so awesome and inspiring. It's not even just about there gender for me. I don't care for characters like Rey and ypu could have made her a guy and it wouldn't have changed a damb thing. I just love them as characters and I want more original well developed, strong female charactets because there is so much I think you can do with them story and charcter wise.Although, I feel a weird connection and admiration to them I honestly can't explain.I guess you could say I empathize and relate to them better. But it has to be a good work of art. If it's diversity for the sake of cheap marketing and not much work isn't put into it than I'm not interested it. An example would be the female thor, black female iron man and the black Captain America. All just to look diverse and appeal to certain demographics.

Thank you. As a woman, I agree. I'd rather have interesting, well rounded characters to remember and look up to, than just a character that so happens to be female. Of course, if I could get both, then great! But bottom line, if a character is underdeveloped and just not interesting, male OR female, I'm not going to care about them. The end.
@Jahlelal
@Jahlelal 8 жыл бұрын
+LucasGreen X23 Yeah, someone's gender or ethnicity should not be the deciding factor of whether or not you're going to market some sort of a new or well established franchise. I just want well developed and individual characters first and foremost. I like certain characters because they're so well written and interesting. Unless their ethnicity or gender is important to their characterization,like Storm, then it's just a bonus, not essential. Like with Samus from Metroid, you could make her a male and it'd be fine.It's just a bonus in those cases.

I AGREE!! I'm a chick, and I LOVED GHOSTBUSTERS!! It never crossed my mind as a little girl that I was "inferior" because they were men, and I was a girl. I don't understand why everyone thinks the original Ghostbusters was favored by just little boys!! I loved and still do LOVE this movie. I even watched it 4 times in the past 3 days just to refresh my love affair with it .... lol ..... dare I say I'm a superfan even!! I'm actually a professional paranormal investigator now (11 years to date) .... and I can't lie .... this movie was the first "paranormal" movie I saw as a kid, and it set a fire in me. I became obsessed with the paranormal for the rest of my life after that. I use to use my mom's vacuum as an ecto-pack .... I mean come on!! Little kids don't look at sexes like us adults do. Maybe I'm just on the rare side of females who like the original Ghostbusters movie ..... but all the girls I know in my life like this movie as well. So that whole argument is void to me.

I just didn't understand why if people want to see strong female characters in modern media, why not write fresh and new strong female characters in original movies instead of rehashing a classic and gender bending them? I have nothing against the actresses in Ghostbusters or the representation strong female protagonists, I just don't get why it had to be Ghostbusters. Movie makers nowadays don't have any originality. Everything is a remake or an adaptation. Give us something new that's so amazing that in a couple of decades it will be a classic of its own!

People tend to just point a finger and yell "Its a woman! Its a woman!" and they forget they gotta make a character. See want people need to understand is that you need to make characters. If their gender or race can be used to benefit the story then fine but don't make it the only thing about them.

Ya know, Doug and Robb talk a lot of shit about the internet on this one, meanwhile this entire movie was advertised as some "oh yeah, girl power," type of thing using GIMMICKS AND STEREOTYPES. When a meh movie is just a meh movie then yeah, it's meh, but when a meh movie is supposed to be advertised as some HUGE GIRL POWER MOVIE, and also has a ton of bad history attached to then the fact that it's meh only makes it worse. There's only two jokes that actually hit, only two cameos that actually work. The Bill Murray cameo is insulting and mean spirited. It's an insulting dribble with an ending that's literally just one "yeah, Girls Rule, Boys Drool" shtick with them SHOOTING THE VILLAIN IN THE BALLS. Like, honestly it's a movie that shouldn't have really existing that just barely exists and for the most part insults it's fanbase AND it's lineage. It's garbage, and isn't even worth the bargain bin at the back of a salvation army store.

The movie should have been called: "Genderjokes." Being as it literally starts off with a queef and ends up with some guy getting shot in the balls. Y'know like Ghostbusters... It's, so obvious to see why the movie doesn't work and the focus on gender is proof of this being as gender has nothing to do with a group of people fighting ghosts yet for some reason it's the central part of the humor. This is why the reboot sucks. It was more focused on pointing out the gender than it was about fighting ghosts.

Patches the Frog Fair enough, but the movie is still filled with jokes that focus more on the gender rather than the actual themes of the movie, which is a problem that no critic should ignore in my opinion. The original wasn't filled with any male dominance jokes, so why should this reboot be: "Women have power hear them roar?" It completely removes from the movie any sense of investment or be-livability and is also the primary reason the comedy fails on multiple levels.

Patches the Frog Not really, all we're actually left with is a story driven by shallow card-board stereotypes spouting leftover SNL tier jokes that completely disregards both the lore, the original story even disregarding it altogether, but still nonetheless throws in cameo's of what's leftover of the original cast to try save face whilst still being no more than a cash-grab on both the name and reputation in regards to the years of anticipation only to slap the fans in the face. That's a little way from: "Okay." in my opinion and neither is there anything okay about Sony and some of the actors hating those who've valid criticism, going as far to try and silence them.

This movie has nothing to do with Feminism or misoginy. This movie is an uninspired cash-grab wich only gimmick is the gender change of the protagonists and the poor portrayal of man, this is what an uneducated person thinks Feminism is about. This movie doesn't empower either women nor men to make them feel as equals. The part that annoys me the most is that this movie has been labeled as Feminism just to be used it as shield to cover the movie flaws. If you want to learn a leasson from this , as a man if you got angry by this movie, think the next time you see a movie with only guys as main characters where women are treated as idiots or objects, remember that movie is doing to women the same as the new Ghostbuster movie did to you. Feminism tell us that we should demand movies were BOTH genders are respected, not only one.

And also says he has a soft spot for it. He's just annoyed that others let that one slide even though it shares similar problems with this one: rehashing the original plot and watering the raunchy adult edge of the first film. Honestly, be easy to both films. At the end of the day, neither are really causes of Ghostbusters becoming a formulaic Hollywood product. Their just a symptom. And harassing the people behind them isn't helping. And it's perfectly fine if someone likes either film.

*watches first six minutes* Doug and Rob curse a lot, insult people who disagree with them, do funny voices parodying people as if saying stuff in a high-pitched voice is funny, and generally act arrogant and condescending while being complete hypocrites compared to opinions they've voiced in the past. I have no interest in seeing it. Nothing to do with women, or with Ghostbusters (the originals aren't something I get rapid over, I like them fine but eh). I really dislike this "neo-SNL" group and their friends that are taking over comedy films. Kirsten Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen, Paul Feig, Judd Apatow, Zach Galifianakis. Every movie I've seen of theirs (Bridesmaids, This Is 40, Due Date, Anchorman) was some degree of annoying and/or unfunny to me. Their brand of humor does absolutely nothing for me. Seeing this movie's cast and director, I have little faith it will succeed where others failed. That said, people keep saying the trailers for the movie are terrible but the movie itself is good. Which is a possibility, but I'm still in no hurry to see it in theaters. Maybe when it comes on TV in a year or so.

Emilio Reyes As quoted from the review, they can do that. You can believe in equal rights and think this movie sucks, you can love the original and think the new one was okay. God forbid, it's almost like it makes you A UNIQUE HUMAN BEING. I never saw this movies and overall never gave a damn about it, but it was people like Doug Walker and James Rolfe that helped me keep sane in a period of uncertainty when the internet was torn apart over the opinion of what was overall, not worth anyone's time, effort or even thought. If people liked it it's fine, if people did not like it, it's also fine, yet there for some reason still needs to be a tiny fraction that would basically throw all logic and reason in the garbage and cause bullshit over nothing. You are not alone, and thank God or whatever supreme power that we weren't. I'm just glad, that at least the drama is over, and boy was it satisfieing to hear how people who were bashing others for hating the movie did not even like the peice of crap they were defending was released. And hopefully that smacked them into consciousness and reality to show what assholes they were. If not, I can only hope.

That generally seems to be what's happening in the comment sections of a lot of Ghostbusters (2016) reviews, a lot of these reviewers actually didn't think the movie was that bad but the internet is pissed that it wasn't a total shit fest cause they wanted to "Stick it to the feminists" They basically want all movies with female leads nowadays to suck so they can point their fingers and go "See?!? See?!? Look at how much feminism is destroying movies!"

Honestly, I rewatched the first one before going to see this in theaters and I said to myself, it was never taking itself that seriously. It was meant to be a fun romp, and I tried to give it a pretty big allowance. What got me wasn't that I thought it was sacrilege or misogyny but the God Damn PRODUCT PLACEMENT. More ads in this than there are billboards on the highway! Not subtle delicate naturally occurring product placement either. Like gun to your head, hard down your throat, label and wink to the camera, full on brand name Plot Points. Sony. Pringles. The fucking Pringles can.. Jesus Christ. Starbucks. 7-11. How forced was that?? Enterprise Rent-A-Car. By fucking name? Papa John's. Revlon. This thing was a shoehorn, a stuffed sardine can of product placement! And that is what broke my nuts. I nearly vomited ectoplasm, and it made me groan more than the ghosts.

you hear that everybody? all the girls who hated Jem and the Holograms and boycotted the movie, you need to grow up. youre just women-children who are crying about a show you loved from your childhood getting remade and not being good enough for your high standards. when they remade the Grinch and so many people hated it and said it was low brow and obnoxious, they were just assholes who couldnt let go of their childhood and their memories of the original Grinch. and the neverending story sequels? theres no reason to get upset about how stupid and half assed they were since we can always pop in the first one and enjoy it. it doesnt matter how disrespectful the sequels were to the original, you're stupid if you get upset about it because you can always watch the first one. that makes it ok that the sequels were crap. and the avatar film may have squandered a great concept for what could have been a great film, but theres no reason to get mad. its alright that it ruined any chance for a live action film of avatar to be done right. we can always watch the cartoon. at the end of the day, theyre just movies right? its not like theyre art. theres no reason to be passionate about them. dont take them seriously. theres no reason to get upset when people exploit a loved franchise with a cheap, low brow get-rich-quick scheme. theyre just movies. you shouldnt care about them. if your beloved films and t.v. shows are a major part of your childhood memories, you HAD no childhood. you heard it here first.

DejaVoodooDoll wow, you really showed how stupid you are. jem sucked because it was nothing like the original series and the fans felt disrespected. had nothing to do with gender. exact same thing for the ghostbusters. has nothing to do with gender, has to do with lazy cash in filmmaking and we felt it disrespected the original. the difference is jem fans werent crucified for hating a low brow adaptation of something they love and ghostbusters fans were. the exact same thing applies to the grinch remake that doug hates so much cuz it was a low brow adaptation of something he loved as a child. and you watch their real thoughts on neverending story, its the same case. they get red faced angry at how the sequels were low brow remakes, in other words the exact reason ghostbusters fans hate the new film. not cuz women are in it, but because its a low brow adaptation of something we loved as kids. doug and rob sound like stupid assholes when they say one thing regarding some stuff and speak out of the other side of their face when talking about this. the "my childhood was raped" attitude these guys have toward neverending story and grinch as well as their HATE for the last airbender is the exact opposite of what they are shitting on ghostbusters fans for. and to say that being passionate about your childhood films means you had no childhood coming from two guys who CHOSE to make a living remembering their childhood films makes these guys just seem like stupid assholes who dont think before they speak. alot like you.

DejaVoodooDoll if you think ghostbusters is good because they bust ghosts then, no , you dont get the fucking movie at all and your opinion on the subject doesnt matter. and by far the overwhelming majority of fans hate this film. none of the "ghostbusters" games and shit that you mentioned were associated with anyone that had had to do with the films or the show AT ALL, so you just sound fucking stupid bringing them up.the only game actually associated with the cast and crew was the 2009 game, AND THAT WAS EXCELLENT!! all the shit you mentioned just borrowed the name, unlike this movie which had cameos that sucked and ivan reitman produced this. so you just showed how stupid and pointless you are right there. but finally, to completely refute everything you said and show the internet how fucking stupid you are, jem and holograms had a band making music and a artificially intelligent machine helping them out and person named jem. but thats not what made that show good now was it? and busting ghosts wasnt what made ghostbusters good either you fucking idiot. you are a casual fan at best and nobody agrees with you cuz youre an idiot and an asshole who chimes in on shit theyre completely ignorant to. fuck the fuck off.

There was only one time I ever saw Dad really happy. We rented Ghostbusters from Blockbuster when I was seven. Oh, I still remember Slimer and his crazy antics. My old man laughed so hard, I thought he'd bust a gut! So the very next night, when he got home from work, I jumped out of the kitchen pantry and sprayed him with the closest thing we had to Slimer slime, green silly string. And then he broke my nose. But hey, that's the downside of comedy. You're always taking shots from folks who just don't get the joke. Like my dad... Or Batman.

Postal is a Guilty Pleasure of mine, bad as hell, but for some reason I enjoyed it. Still I would never white knight it. And I'm more amused by the fact people who'd rip a new asshole to Michael Bay for having ghetto-bots, 'balls' joke on a robot and cheesy effects left and right that serve no purpose, will be willing to shift their views 180 for another movie, which is just as bad. Like there's one reviewer in my country, who hated Warcraft movie saying "Movies should be more then just dumb mindless fun and action scenes..." and on Ghostbusters, he goes "Oh... people are too touchy about the Ghostbusters, they are just having simple mindless fun with a splash of action... what's wrong about that?!" dudes, the problem is that a movie maker should not be allowed to proclaim something, prejudge its own audience, dismiss any comment showing otherwise and forcing people to focus on the dichotomy they prefer: gender related issue. that's the problem. as simple as that. because if you let it, then there can be no end to it.

@dmitritobias

where did you get that? nobody is saying that. it wasn't the public who said that, it was the film makers and their marketing who first claimed that: 1. the movie is female empowering, employing majority of females. 2. the negativity towards this movie is misogynistic. the film makers addressed the sexism issue and only that, refusing to acknowledge other problems with the movie from concept to production to the flat tasteless indecent jokes in the likes of SNL, with a director that seemingly can only make one type of movie. you're welcome to check out midnight's edge in depth video about it. all this is claimed by simply swapping gender when the quality of the movie is not even good, let alone has anything to do with empowering. the way how it came to be is questionable. in my opinion, some jokes are not even suitable for kids. this is damaging to the people already working hard to promote gender equality and adapt it in their works throughout time. there are countless productions with stories that are actually embracing the idea in a civilized non hypocritical empty way such as this piece of shit. a product maker is allowed to position its product for certain people by claiming that it has certain traits that represents a certain idea: such as this one, it's female empowering. however, when a product maker aggressively address people who do not seem to accept their product well as oppositions of the idea it claims to represent, that is a whole different kind of ball park. for example, apple claims its product as young, trendy, hip for the tech savvy hipsters. that's ok. i dont think it's true but it's ok. however, you think they should address all PC users as old corporate assholes and dismiss any critics towards their product? that's a whole new level of morbid marketing right there. this is a movie. it is a product. regardless of what the consumers think of it, there should be no label put across for those who do not share their points of view. the public deserves to be dignified and freedom of choice should remain free without judgment. liking or not liking a movie can not be used as any indication if someone is misogynistic or not. it is a complicated problem with a dire solution requiring more than just making an all female ghosbusters movie. that's the problem with this movie. and fan4stick as well. it is not about man child whining having their childhool ruins. not about sexism either. this is corporation trying to dictate the people how to think, what to see, how to be and not to be by using their product as a measurement. does no one else concern about that? really?

By calling it a "basement dweller response". They're completely glossing over the people in the middle who weren't defending the film just because there are women in it and calling people who hate it trolls; and who weren't saying the movie would suck just because women are in it. I'm not going to see it because the jokes I saw in the trailer aren't funny. I don't think the "angry black woman" cliche is funny. I don't think hiring an idiot secretary cause he's hot is funny. I don't think Melissa or Kristen being clumsy and falling all over the place is funny. I don't think dick jokes, pussy farts, and vomiting is funny. Honestly, I'm surprised feminists don't hate this movie. I'm a huge supporter of women and enjoy seeing movies where women are in better roles. But this movie makes women look stupid. And that's just the trailer alone. I'd hate to see what the rest of the movie added to that.

Yeah, and the problem with the game is that it is the exact replica of the two original films. Same cast, similar plot, and similar style of humor. Apart from new things like new gadgets and new ghosts, there were no originality compare to the original film just like Ghostnusters 2.

New setting new idea new character (you) I dont give a fuck how similar something is to something else. Ghostbusters 2 had a talking painting, magic slime and a moving Statue of Liberty. The game had you play through events similar to the movie with little twists. That's enough for me to get invested. I don't care that this movie is essentially the original one redone, I don't care that it's all females. I care about comedy that makes me laugh instead of cringe, characters that make feel invested instead of facepalm. Give me that and I don't care how often you tell me the same story as long as you change it up in a good way. Both Ghostbusters 2 and the game did that as far as I'm concerned

So you wanted a ghost-busters game that has nothing to do with ghost-busters? Not any of the same characters, doing what they do. So lets just do a ghost-busters where the cast is different with different set of humor, and instead of fighting ghosts, they can have wacky hi-jinks in an airplane, or searching for treasure in temples! They are ghost-busters. the plot is in all ghost-busters movies, that ghosts signal the end of the world, and they must catch ghosts and banish the big bad. that is the formula of a ghost-busters film.

Let's see here... Doug and Rob insult their audience by calling them all sexists (including their own family that just didn't like the movie but don't want to give reasons why because they most likely don't care about the reasons... as that's how old people are in not giving a shit). The comments section erupts with people saying they lost respect for Doug and pointing out a myriad other problems with the review and how hypocritical Doug is given his past reviews of similar films with the same exact flaws as this while you have fanboys and SJW types giving excuses, obfuscations and insults towards people who have otherwise given a comment that is either rational or in the moment for how they feel. There, saved you 54 minutes of watching a pandering review that does nothing but insult your intellect while saving you time checking out the comments section. You can thank me later.

I didn't involve myself in the controversy around this movie either, but I thought it came from a few idiots being mildly misogynistic, then feminists/SJWs picking up on that, then everyone who pointed out there was nothing of value in the trailer and the movie would almost certainly be mediocre at best was a raging misogynist, then the movie got tons of flak for being a feminist/social justice propaganda vehicle, then the movies advertisement presented it as just that. I guess the quality and content of the movie was completely irrelevant before it even came out, due to how it was talked about and how its creators egged on the controversy. 8:18 - Naturally, what the people who invested themselves in the argument care about is the box office.

Never saw either of the original Ghostbusters. Never saw the 2016 one. I'm _definitely_ not the only viewer with this experience and the fact that you guys generalize your fanbase enough to say that we looked like a bunch of "fucking idiots" probably says something about your own misconceptions. I don't think I should have to say this but, people aren't hiveminds, "nerds" and "gamers" aren't the only kinds of people on the internet, and sweeping assumptions combining the two previous facts probably aren't the best way to go if you're going to be talking down to people for "being too narrow minded". I came for a indepth review of a movie that looked kinda crappy judging by the trailer, not to get unfounded insults thrown at me for an hour. :/

This wasn't one of their skits. They took a Paul Feig route towards their own fans. Did you laugh at their generalization of original fans of Ghostbusters? These were people that absolutely loved the franchise and watched the brand name get associated with feminism. What? What?! What does a movie about paranormal exterminators from 1984 have ANYTHING to do with female empowerment. Idk, but Paul Feig and Melissa McCarthy decided to do it. I have no idea why several activists groups decided to get on board with a juvenile mediocre comedy but they did. And now everyone who supported it can't bring themselves to admit how contrived this movie is for fear of having misjudged the film. Is Channel Awesome part of this? I don't know but this review sure makes it out as such.

The original Ghostbusters was never intended to be a family brand, it was a special effects tentpole with a sarcastic Saturday Night Live/National Lampoon/Second City sense of humor. Over time, it became kid-ified with its cartoon and video game ancillaries, and that’s the trap that Sony and the filmmakers fell into in reigniting this film. It’s too goody goody, and audiences can smell that. If you’re going to hire Feig and McCarthy, then they should execute what they’re known and loved for: a raunchy Ghostbusters. All the outrageous elements that have made Feig/McCarthy films great - characters getting a bad batch of food poisoning, McCarthy handing out the riot act, biting banter, cutthroat fights (that McCarthy knife fight in Spy!) - have been traded in for an origins story about proton packs and a deep dive on phantom science; in sum, this Ghostbusters takes itself more seriously than the 1984 version and plays it too safe. PS hate is going to hate and love is going to love

Saw the movie and it really sucked. I agree with their mom. I wanted it to be great. I am very disappointed. My Review. Don't pay to see it. Wait till it comes on TV for Free and have a few drinks first.

Ever get the weird feeling that the makers of Ghostbusters (2016) were relying on sexism (in a negative way) to guilt trip people into going to see it and/or say nothing bad about it?

As someone who never saw the original, and so doesn't get the callbacks and references, I loved it.
