Ghostbusters The Videogame (2009) is essentially Ghostbusters III. It's set in '91 and all the cast returned to voice the characters. You need to do a video on that!
@mccarthy58253 жыл бұрын
It's such a good game. The story is top, the performances are amazing and it really hit it perfectly by putting YOU in as the rookie rather than playing as one of them. The way there seems to be weight to the ghosts, the upgrades to the pack, the buddy system and then amazing little things like Vigo pushing out of the painting and insulting you as you walk by it just icing on the cake. They really made it viable to actually go back and deal with the librarian and to have Stay Puft reappear. Lesser writers would have BUTCHERED this game. Imagine now if Randy and Co had put as much love and energy and polish into Colonial Marines as they did on this.... Without a doubt this game is the best GB game there COULD be.

I'll never understand why this movie gets as much negativity as it does. My friends and I all grew up loving this one as much as the first. Now an adult, I can look back with a more critical eye. Is it quite up to par with the first, no probably not... but it still has a lot to offer. Great moments, a solid soundtrack, awesome ghosts, and a very memorable villain / henchman duo. I look at it like Home Alone 2 or TMNT Secret of the Ooze... Both still a ton of fun with a lot of great story and character expansion, but just a little less of the magic that the property had that first time you saw it.
3 жыл бұрын
You probably feel like that because, like you said, you grew up with this and your critical eye is not being as critical as you think. It could also be that, after the first one and the time that passed in between, it didn't match audiences' hype at the time and ended up being marked as a failure. I don't really agree with this tho because even today people who watch it for the first time consider it a bad movie with good stuff in it. Personally I watched it when I was a kid and I remember being extremly disapointed by it. Even at a young age I could tell that they were just trying to replicate the first movie. Now I can see that the whole 90s vibe didn't do it many favors either.
@tompollockjr1443 жыл бұрын
@ I'm definitely aware of my nostalgia for it, that's why I've mentioned it. I've seen this movie dozens of times and am aware of it's shortcomings. But I still think it gets treated as a worse movie than it really is. Almost every sequel tries to replicate the original... That's the typical formula. They try to recapture that magic in a bottle. So the thrill and excitement of a new story or world to explore is essentially gone by the time the second one comes around. I don't think that should be held against sequels however. I think alot of the negativity comes from us living in a culture where we like to look back and tear old things down. It's become very popular in the last 7 or 8 years to look back and say "man, that sucked." But meanwhile today our stories are even less creative, and less original than those stories 30 years ago.
@ScooterinAB3 жыл бұрын
It's an example of the soullessness of Hollywood. My understanding is that no one wanted to make it. That lack of energy permeates through the whole movie, but there's also the lack of originality. We need to remember though that criticism isn't negativity. This isn't a bad movie; it's just not a good movie because it just remakes a better movie. Force Awakens wasn't a bad movie; it just remade a better movie. Whereas people are absolutely being negative about the 2016 movie because of how poorly it was made, how much it misses the entire point of feminism, and for how much Sony manipulated fans into promoting the movie for them, people are just being critical of this movie over what it is.
@jamesoblivion2 жыл бұрын
It's the same movie as the first one, with the same story beats, except none of it is as good. It doesn't expand the scope of the story, nor advance any of the characters, it just resets them all...so Venkman has to woo Dana again, they have to open up the business again, a nerdy guy obsessed with Dana becomes possessed by evil forces again, a government pencil-pusher has them briefly locked up again...it all feels like absolutely minimal effort, and the comedy writing just doesn't spark like the original. Don't get me wrong, I saw GB2 in the theater and absolutely loved it. But I was 9.

I mean I loved him, still do, but there were no kids cheering for He-Man, the world was moving on... by then we had those water-pistols that were so realistic the US police were forced to shoot serval children and then you could only get them from Walsall market, Polly Pocket, the not-as-good "The Movie" Transformers (but I still wanted them), Thundercats and the strange feelings stirred by the older boy next door. He-Man was in the draw with your knickers and the remains of Sideswipe by 1989.

The movie Transformers came out in 1986. He-Man was still in full swing back then. 1989 was rough for Transformers (nothing but Pretenders!) but not as rough as it was gonna be in 1990.

I love the idea that James and Maso do podcasts so much that it's not only the voice they use out in the world, but also the inner monologue. Sometimes I listen to the pod so much that my inner monologue has a loud Australian accent. Thanks.... for that

Ghostbusters II is a decent sequel. It has its share a laughs and fun moments. It's not as good as the original, but honestly what is? The original Ghostbusters is one of the greatest comedy films of all time. There have been far worse comedy sequels made by Hollywood.

The reason ghostbusters 1 felt like such a grimy New York was because of John DeCuir. The production designer. He had a real noir aesthetic to his movies and would often add a lot of extra details to locations.. he unfortunately died before ghostbusters 2 so what you see in ghostbusters 2 is locations that actually got cleaned up and lit like sets.

Always loved the second movie. Was the first film i ever seen in the cinema when i was about 6. Loved it all, was really surprised to hear years later people didn't like it so much. I'm almost kind of wondering is it an internet thing thats gotten out of hand, cos i see more and more people saying how much they enjoyed it and dont understand the backlash. I know certain well known critics didnt like it, but overall i think most really enjoyed it.

I'm definitely in the minority here, but I prefer Ghostbusters 2. I love it. My parents had it recorded on an old VHS from Hbo. I watched it so much as a little kid that certain sounds trigger memories. I did find it very confusing everyone hated the Ghostbusters, and Dana had a baby that wasn't Peter's. It doesn't make sense, but it makes me happy.

More fun trivia, the painting in the film is actually a photo. They painted the actor with paints to make him look like a painting so they could both photograph and film it… then when he moved, it didn’t look blue screened etc from the background. The photo/painting is now hanging in the ILM lobby on the Skywalker Ranch.

I've seen unused scenes where they show Vigo in the painting start out in his classic pose and then start moving around within the painting. It looked a lot cooler than just changing to Vigo's floating head over the river of slime. Not sure why they changed it.

I don't understand why they don't comment on the fact that officially Ghostbusters 3 was in fact a video game. The entire cast came back for it and it's full of dialogue and it expanded on the universe and the game really plays like a movie you can find edits on KZbin of the playthrough that have been made fans into a movie. And just like they say about cartoons, cartoons are like movies with unlimited budgets so you get to experience the lore and locations and weaponry Etc they couldn't afford to film and cut out of the movies. My birthday is Halloween and I'm always told by my parents were watching Ghostbusters at the hospital right before I was born. I don't know but being born in the 80s all my friends and myself were huge Ghostbuster fans and have all the toys. I refuse to throw them away! I also want to comment, I don't know if it's just my neighborhood or the times we live in but when I was a child it was almost as if you couldn't drive through the streets of neighborhoods on Halloween because of the massive amount of kids dressed up trick-or-treating running through the neighborhoods to see who could collect the most candy. I remember neighbors would convert their houses into mazes for the kids to go through for jump-scares . The past 10 years we get maybe one knock on the door.... is trick-or-treating not a thing anymore?

I just rewatched this video. I always love Caravan of Garbage, but I couldn't disagree more with James & Maso. They said they loved it as kids and didn't expect it to be as bad as it is. They say it's not funny. So, I rewatched Ghostbusters 2 for the first time in probably 15-20 years, and it was great. It's not laugh out loud funny, what movie is after you've seen it once or twice before? But it was definitely funny. Bill Murray and Harold Ramis are constantly cracking out funny comments. It's not as funny as the original, but I didn't see the huge lack of chemistry they said was there. It's not as good as the original Full Stop. However, it's a damn good sequel that's fun all the way through and leaps and bounds over 2016, Afterlife, and Frozen Empire. Not mad at James or Maso, they did their job and made another great Caravan of Garbage episode, even if I disagree with their overall impression.

You need to include the 2009 Ghostbusters: The Videogame! The original cast are back (including William Atherton, Annie Potts AND Max Von Sydow) and Dan Aykroyd said that the game is canon, and was loosely based on a older script that was rejected that was going to be Ghostbusters 3. SO it's basically Ghostbusters 3 mate! Let's ghOOOOOOOOOOOO....stbust out of here.

@@KasumiKenshirou absolutely no idea my friend. I actually seen the real one of the four of them at the short lived Planet Hollywood in Dublin. I csnt remember if there's an explanation but he just pokes his head out (sort of like in the film) and insults you a few times. Ghostbusters: the video game from 2009 was considered by Dan Aykroyd and the fans to be the official "3rd movie". the game got back all the original actors for their voices including the return of walter peck, the game is considered by the fans to be an amazing game, its super fun and has a high replay value, when playing on Steam you can unlock the dark charcoal color uniforms and if you complete the game on the hardest difficulty you can unlock a golden proton pack.
