They’ve adopted UP’s ideology of combining entire trains together. They’ll split the two somewhere and send them on their merry way in different directions.

I'm also named Dave. All locomotives including DPU's elephant style? I've watched hundreds of train vids over the last few years, and I recall only one such instance beside this one. Kudos on a terrific catch!! 👌👍👏

I'm a lifelong railfan and even this too crazy for me! NS has run several shorter monsters on the Chicago Line too. I bet the Terminal Managers thought about ending it all seeing this thing arrive!

Where do they park those super long trains

@@williejameshoward4729 On th NS Chicago Line they can be seen sitting on a siding track waiting for a track to open up in Elkhart Yard. I saw 2 end to end a couple weeks back doing just that.

That’s how the railroad gets rid of train crews. Half the crews across the system
@trainmandavid84082 жыл бұрын
Seeing the trains this big is cool but I’m not happy knowing folks lose their jobs. That really sucks. Plus it makes it harder on the crew that’s in charge of a train this large.
@23merlino2 жыл бұрын
wow, what a fantastic sight... i wonder how many gallons of fuel a truck needs to cart one container a 100miles in comparison to how much this train needs to cart one container 100 miles... the energy saving must be enormous...

It's my understanding that when trains are combined, the train's name takes that of the higher priority. IOW, there is no such thing as an S/Q train; instead, it's simply a Q train, unless or until it's separated. I doubt that a high-priority Z train would be combined with a low-prioriry S train.
