I’m a Cornish lad living in nsw Australia, I’ve watched all your sea fishing adventures. I miss fishing the south coast of Cornwall. I’ve got a bowl in the fridge of Australian sand whiting. I harvested this morning. Filleted and scaled. But I would swap it for your your fresh cod any day.

Graeme, my 100 year old Nanas top tip for beer batter is add a table spoon of Birdseye Custard powder to the mix for deep golden yellow colour.

That looked beyond delicious! Imagine being like my dad, the man who dragged a bleary-eyed me as a wee lad, out of my bed, at ridiculous o'clock, in all seasons and all weathers, to share his absolute passion for all types of angling. But, alas, who can't stomach the taste of ANY fish or seafood!!! Not me, though, I cannot get enough of the stuff, and so much the better when it is me who caught or foraged it! Sorry dad, does it help if I eat it for you? 😇

I remember as a young lad, fellows bringing in cod as large as me off the Lincolnshire coast and holiday town piers such as Skegness. They literally had washing baskets filled with half metre long monsters. My dad tells me it was standard for the anglers to take the fish straight to the chippy back door for quids.

what kind of conditions are good for cod this size?, i always drop baits off the kayak around Donegal hoping to pick up a beast like this but get swamped by whiting, or is it more the location that is important ?

I like the catch and cook format. A mighty fish! The first thought I had was, a nice coating of herbs(dried basil is good) and a little bit of cayenne pepper, topped with a couple of very thin slices of tomato, then coated in breadcrumbs and into the oven with it. Your arteries will be delighted with you. 👍

Love this, every programme I`ve ever watched about batter describe the consistency as being that of single cream.Fine if you`re a cook and know what single cream looks like but for a layman`gloss paint`will do just fine, well done.
