@@さいとうけぎお I fish for octopuses that I catch by spearfishing in the islands of Greece. The process of making octopus has not changed at all since ancient times. The first stage is striking the octopus on a stone forty times. The second stage is to rub on the plate until all the drool is removed. Now the tentacles are curled and easily torn at the base, it is ready for cooking. Octopus will never turn red unless it goes through hot water. In the Japanese factory, all steps are done mechanically and boiling at 6:20.

@@kenkozawa9810 There are plenty of vegan alternatives. No animal has to be sacrificed for this nowadays. It would also be better for our planet.

@@CAROcreated you can believe in that mentality, but the fact is humans are not herbivores and none of the best athletes I follow are vegan, closest is some just eat fish. Eat or be eaten, that is nature which is the normal environment of the universe..no lion is looking to become vegan anytime soon. You're still sacrificing many plants and nature to live a vegan life, we are all reaping the fruits of this planet, be it plant or animal...all the atoms will be returned back to the universe one day anyways, there's no difference.

These octopuses have a catch in African countries. They are supposed to be frozen in the fishing boats but I have never seen any African fishing boats have ice. Next in some market is sorting by weight so we see that everything is the same size and then refreezing and shipping to Japan. There again defrosting, boiling and freezing again. So I don't think that the produced product on the consumer's plate is the best. We all know that a product that has been defrosted is forbidden to refreeze because bacteria grow.

One young Japanese man, Masaaki Nakamura, was instrumental in bringing octopus fishing to the African nation of Mauritania, transforming it into a fisheries nation and saving the country from its current state of poverty. He went to Mauritania in the 1960s at the age of 26 and passed on to his people the traditional Japanese method of octopus fishing that had been practiced in Japan for more than 2,000 years. Would this really improve the lives of us Mauritanians? At first, Nakamura was not trusted at all, but after months of persuasion, he was able to convince the people of Mauritania. Nakamura gradually gained their trust as the Mauritanians involved in octopus fishing actually earned many times the average monthly income of the people of Mauritania. As time went by, the Japanese-style octopus fishery was handed down and is still practiced today with more than 3,000 canoes, making Mauritania famous as a major fisheries nation 🐙

Thanks for the update but the truth is a bit different. West Africa's coastal fish stocks are being depleted by foreign fishing fleets from Europe and Asia. Overfishing is threatening the region's fish resources and the livelihoods of the people of West Africa. For the fishermen of Mauritania, it is getting hard to make a living. Having to venture out further to sea, their small boats are at risk of capsizing in a storm or being overrun by the foreign trawlers.
