I just bought myself a Giant Stance 2 E-bike myself and I love it. It makes mountain biking Easy and fun. This motor helps a person climb steep hills and makes it look very easy. It's a strong dependable motor. The Yamaha motor is in my opinion the best.

@@chickenclips I was torn as well. I was on a Santa Cruz HighTower for a minute, not an e-mtb I realize, the turbo Levo, and the E-trance. Trance and Reign are basically the same, Reign has more travel. I made the right call. The reign is so buttery and a trail master and a DH heavyweight when it needs to be. I don't miss a red penny.

@@SwazersC hows the bike ? I go test ride one tomorow
@SwazersC4 жыл бұрын
@@pierlucricher3376 Hi, its an amazing bike. I have done over 800KM on it already in just under 1 month. I am now using a lot less assistance than I initially was. The power is there if you need it. It is a smooth bike. Very stable at high speeds. It feels safe. It is also very fast. I have had a top speed of over 50KM per hour out of it. Yes, it was down a steep hill, however, it still felt very safe. The Yamaha motor is a revelation. Smooth yet very responsive and powerful. You would not even know there was a motor there at times as its extremely intuitive. This bike performs on and off the trail. It is a cruiser on the roads and an explorer on light to medium trails. The chain has come off a few times but I have always managed to get it back on. This usually happens when I hop off a kerb. The bike feels extremely solid in the way it's been constructed. I would not have one of the over other brands like Cube for example. For the money, I think you get very good value. The bike's components are obviously high quality. The gear changes are smooth and hassle-free. Buying this bike was a very good choice. I love the freedom it affords me. Thank you, Giant, for your innovation and dedication in the pursuit of cycling.
@pierlucricher33764 жыл бұрын
@@SwazersC what distance can you get from the battery ? The small 400 one. Could i get 60km on the lowest assist ? My job is 28km from home. I want it to commute sometime but it should be a ton of fun on gravel trails also !
@powertapping3 жыл бұрын
I test rode specialized and trek before settling on the Giant Reign. I love the 5 settings, it gives me incredible control of my energy output. I never use auto, the amount of assist on each pedal stroke was inconsistent. I use the motor like a front derailleur especially on technically challenging sections. I usually ride in 1-2 especially when riding with analog riders and use 3 for most long gradual climbs. 4 is really the best for technical climbs 5 is just too much and too touchy for my style. Again the best attribute of the system is having 5 modes 2 nd best is the instant delivery of power to the pedal, it makes stalling on tough sections rare.

It's all nice that the torque/power management, motor noise is reduced and up hill start characteristics are kinder, But the glaring omission from the review is what has been done about badly designed crank seals the seal that seem to allow water and grim into the supposedly fully sealed motor, electronics and bearings. This seems a an enormous oversight not just with the Shimano, Yamaha and Bosch motors. The problems is not just those bikes that may have ridden through wet muddy trails but also bike that have been lightly hosed down after a dusty ride. How hard is it to fully seal the circuit board with water proof gel, how hard is it to install screwed power terminals on the controller board, how hard is it to fit double seals on the crank. What an extra extra 80g is going the weigh the bike down that much. Is an extra $20 in material going to blow the production cost. Design and build the products to last and to be serviceable. Enough of the single use resource wastage.

I just bought the E+2 version, when I test drove it the dealer was silent about trying it out in higher gears (higher cadence) so I only went in the 12th and 11th gear. The motor sound was not the best but OK. However since its a mountain bike, and I live near a mountain 60pct of the time you are climbing in high gears. The perceived noise between the 12th gear low cadence and 1st gear high cadence is at least 5X, due to the high pitched whining noise part of the sound profile going from like 40DB to 60DB!!! I could not believe my ears! It is like riding a hand blender on the quite mountain trails and I am now old (40+) less prone to hear high pitched sounds. How can someone produce a motor like this and also how can you still put "bicycle" in the name of the product. I am not unfamiliar with mid drive motors either, my GF has a 2016 Bosch Active Line and it is super quiet. In the highest gear the noise of the cheapo old Bosch is comparable to this Yamaha abomination in the lowest gear. I know that more powerful Bosch new motors are louder as well, but at least they are lower pitched than the niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii motor of Yamaha. I dont even mention my 15 years old Bionx PT350 hub drive motor on my city bike is STILL working and giving 70pct as much torque as the Yamaha motor in complete silence!!! So I am taking back the bike to the dealer after just 2 km of real world driving at a loss, probably I will build a silent EMTB with big diameter cheap Chinese hub motor. At least its much cheaper to service, completely silent at a cost of more weight less range. This whole trend of motors going lighter and stronger while sacrificing a big part of what bike riding means (quiet, peace, ZEN, close to nature) is a complete dead end IMO. Yamaha should have sticked with enduro motorbikes if sound is a non issue for them. All the ebikes sooner or later will be banned from all nature parks due to these bad apples like the motorbikes for similar reasons.

Hi from NZ. I collected my 2020 trance e3 30 minutes before our national covid lockdown - great timing eh It has replaced my 2018 giant full E and so far I’m happy. However the walk function doesn’t work so that’s a fix for the dealer after lockdown is lifted. I like the auto setting but I don’t think it feels as strong as my old bike in the second (basic) setting for some reason. However the 4 pot brake calipers are much stronger than the old bike. Stay well and keep up your good work . H

I'm interested to know if you have had recent experience with the Ride Control app ? I have downloaded it and it connects with my 2020 Trance e3. It offered a firmware update and I downloaded this. The result is a clear change of the Auto mode, which becomes the default setting when powering on, and in my opinion is a step backwards, because it doesn't work like the previous Auto mode (not as powerful). The upshot is I ride my bike in manual and now prefer it that way.

It will show that it's connected but after that you are unable to do anything with it, I would like to try the different adjustments that you can make to the motor but you just cannot do anything with it. I've contacted giant but still had no reply. The bike is excellent but the app is useless. Also the seat is really really uncomfortable and the grips hurt your hands. I weigh 105kg+daughter 3yo 15kg+child seat1,5kg+ bike 24,5kg around 160kg full load and I can ride mainly on level 1-2 about 50km/65km mostly somewhat flat terrain. When I ride solo I do preety much about 50km mixed terrain uphill with still left 2 bars fulll.. So for an average weight rider of 80kg mixed terrain is probably around 80km depends on outside temp or maybe more. I got 6amp charger wich is awesome.. totally empty battery gets full in 1h 40min. From flat empty to 60% in 40min.Best bang for money! i've done over 1100 km with it and not a single issue with it! I'll stick with Giant.. get new 625wh battery and that's it.

I have an Amit-E that has had nothing but issues since I purchased it in new from my local dealer in 2019, and LIV/Giant is refusing to stand by their warranty. The local dealer, Glacier Cyclery in Whitefish, MT has been incredible in dealing with all of this, and they are as disappointed in Giant as I am. Giant refuses to replace the bike, even though it's spent hours at the dealer's shop in less than a year of ownership, it's had the defective motor replaced, and has ongoing battery and electronic issues that have ruined almost every ride I've taken it on. BEWARE OF GIANT AND LIV BIKES, as they won't stand behind their product when things go wrong.

Can you explain why you consider that it is a positive attribute that the motor cuts power as soon as you stop pedalling? From my experience a small run on makes it so much better for climbing tricky obstacles where you can't squeeze in a pedal stroke and much smoother changing gears at higher speeds.
