Wow, from what you said, the tire shops out there must be pretty expensive. We have a guy in our area who does nothing but a mobile repair service for farm and industrial tires. I had him here a year ago to put a new set of rear tires on the White 2-110 and 1 new rear on the Oliver 1550. He charged me a grand total of $200, which also included the cost for dismounting the 3 old tires and taking the calcium chloride out and putting it back in again. I thought that was more than reasonable.

That used to be about what it was. I haven’t had them come out for years but my cousin tried to have them come take his combine tire off and that’s what they told him.

Well at least it didn't go flat on a cold night in January while blowing snow🤣🤣 The beads were broken but I had to put the torpedo heater on the bead to get it to stretch. Then I had to roll the new tires across the yard out of the heated building and mount them...tons of fun🙄

Another good video Ross. A lot of work, but after you said the tire shop would have charged 800.00 dollars just to dismount that tire, I must say you did the right thing by doing it yourself. thank you for sharing. Ton fo work but worth it.

Ross, yes, always use a pair of vise grips, really helps. For stubborn tires like that, I know many frown upon it but, I've sometimes had to use my loader tractor and used the bucket to "push" the tires to break the bead. Unfortunately, yes, you're there, go ahead and replace that seal, save yourself the headache later. Last time I installed a boot, it lasted forever. Great video as always, cheers :)

I know your pain with stuck tires. I did a set a couple years back that I think we're original from the late 60s early 70s. They were a whole new definition of one with the rim! I wound up cutting one off with cutoff wheel. What a fight that can be!

2nd comment of the videos. I welded the nut on my bead breaker out of the box.I first disassembled it and packed it with grease to preserve the threads.It can still break over time. And yes I can weld . Used 7018 with plenty of heat.

Ross, the Rodney Dangerfield of old tractors. "I get no respect" was Dangerfield's famous line. Ross's favorite line is "It will probably fall over and kill me." Maybe you (Ross) should start a tire and battery business with Oliver parts as a sideline. On the oil cooler, some companies sell coolers that are tubes with fins on them that can be formed to fit about anywhere. Also, searches of salvage (oops, recycling centers) yards just might find a cooler from another model of tractor that will fit. Most companies would try to use a readily available cooler than make one of their own. Remember, White was looking to save every penny possible by the time those were made. Maybe you can find a cooler you could mount somewhere more convenient and simply use a small car electric fan to blow cool air over it. You might actually get your hydraulic oil cooled down enough to make it work better.
@rosstheoliverman
@rosstheoliverman 6 ай бұрын
That may be what I have to do. I’m sure the availability on this part is pretty low 🤣

I bought two new sets of Firestone's this fall. 16.9X38's and 20.8X38's. That set me back a bit! Then I drug home a Farmall 400 that really needs new rubber, or at least better. It's not going to get brand new ones but I'm on the hunt for tires, again! The right one will hold air, for maybe an hour. Long enough to move it around and that's about it. Knowing what the 20.8's cost I'd hate to know what those 23.1X34's go for!! @@rosstheoliverman

No small task breaking down ag tire beads. Didn't hear any animal sounds...when the bead breaker was having roll-pin fits LOL. If the tire is junk, I've used PB Blaster or WD 40 around the rim/bead joint...not in accord with tire dismount protocol, but sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

Are you serious about $800 for on farm tire service!? Boy I'm glad I dont live in your hood! I have given up beating and prying on tires, I'm to old for that anymore! I have out lasted several area tire shops, some were ok, some not. I have one now that is very reasonable, hes young, and it was his grandpas shop. Basically a one horse operation, when hes out with the truck, the shop is closed. I call him for fluid and really large tires. But if its dry and smaller I'll take the tire and wheel to him. He has a machine that will change a 42" tire like a small one will change a car tire! And he doesn't mind if I take in a used tire for my antique tractors that I got at a bone yard or an auction. I guess I should consider myself lucky to have him! I hope he outlast my time for needing that work! Other places have come and gone, and usually for good reason, shoddy work, and other reasons over the years for me.
@rosstheoliverman
@rosstheoliverman 7 ай бұрын
I never thought it was that high, but this fall when my cousin broke the final drive on his 8900, he couldn’t get the wheel off and he called them to see what they would charge to come out and just unbolt the wheel and they told him $800.
