One of the best real world comparison videos i have seen on any subject. It might be worth comparing clamping force applied but i doubt there's much difference.

Thanks mate, much appreciated! I did consider buying in a gadget to test the force but, as I kind of say in the vid, force applied with either is ample. I'm not convinced with the Bessey's ability to apply extra pressure with an allen wrench. It makes the clamp flex to where you can see the jaws become slightly angle which can obviously do the opposite of what you want - closing joints. If it needs that much pressure to close a joint, it's worth re-cutting the edges on the workpiece tbh. But yeah, no doubt with that extra feature the Bessey would win a clamping pressure test.

Thank you mate. They're certainly worth a look. Their speciality has to be their own brand router table insert plates and router lifts. Just superb quality. I have one of their insert plates. You can see the video on it pop up at the end of this vid if you're interested.

Cheers Peter. Wasn't gonna review them tbh. Just give a mention when they inevitably appeared in a vid sort of thing. Having seen them a bit put down, thought they deserved a fair shout. People will find an axminster comp useful I think. UK viewers anyway.👍

Those Sauter clamps look identical to the Bremen clamps that Harbor Freight sells. Are they the same?

Looks like it. Essentially the same clamp is rebranded/coloured and sold under a few names. Wellcut and Bora for example.

According to their reply on one of the forums, these clamps are made in Israel - so are probably not the same as brands sourced from China.

Interesting. The Sauter don't actually say on them where they're manufactured. Quite surprised it's Israel. The Bessey Revo are made in Germany according to the label. Some of their budget models are made in China apparently.

Nice video! How do you think they compare to the Axminster ones?
@BischBaschBosch
@BischBaschBosch 3 жыл бұрын
Don't have the Axminster Trade version bud but visually, you can see that like the Sauter, certain mechanical elements aren't as overengineered as the Bessey. They do have the same jaw size as the Bessey it seems. Also have a jointed handle so you can turn it sideways, using as a sort of wrench to apply more force. Though, as I say in the vid, care has to be taken when using these features. More than enough pressure can be applied for 99.9% of tasks just hand turning the handle. Like other budget versions, no doubt they work perfectly well (they seems well reviewed) and will meet clamping needs. They just might not feel quite as "proper" as the Bessey.
@10MinuteWorkshop

@@BischBaschBosch I have the Axminster ones, I’ll be doing a comparison before too long. One difference is that the aux clamps have a handle that can be flipped 90° so you can apply more force, but as you say, Stew, that’s not always a good thing! 😬👍

@@10MinuteWorkshop Absolutely mate. As I've said elsewhere here, if you need that much force to close a gap in a glue up, you're better off redoing the edges. Shouldn't need 170nm or whatever it is the Bessey is capable of.
@10MinuteWorkshop
@10MinuteWorkshop 3 жыл бұрын
@@BischBaschBosch Exactly! I think I said much the same in my 5 clamps bud or whatever it was - put 5000 Newton’s of clamping pressure over something I’ve made and it’ll snap in half! 😯😂

I have no doubt what so ever that these are good clamps and if some company gifted me a load I would also tell you how good they are. Not to get carried away with how much crushing force you can get out of them, I only require clamps to hold bits of wood together until the glue dries. A pair of 1200mm aluminium clamps can be had online for approx. £30 if they are good enough for Paul Sellers they're good enough for me (small hack required ala Mr Sellers).
@BischBaschBosch
@BischBaschBosch 3 жыл бұрын
Doesn't matter if something is gifted to me or not, if it's shite and not fit for purpose, I'd say so as I have in previous reviews and comparisons. One of the points I make in the video is the ability of the Bessey to apply excess clamping force is unnecessary. If you need that much force, generally your edges aren't prepared properly. 20 plus years in boat building and construction, I've made do with whatever clamps. Most often hand me downs - sash (aluminium and steel/iron), pipe, G and F - no frills stuff, but nonetheless helped me produce work I'm very proud of. I'm a recent convert to the parallel clamp of this Bessey Revo type design. They are just better. "Good enough" is fine but it isn't the final word. Also, the needs of amateurs are different to those of most professionals. Paul Sellers, although a very respected craftsman and teacher, regards himself as an amateur. Amateur because he isn't relying on daily production of work to put food on the table and keep a roof over his head. For professionals, those of us who produce day in, day out to make a living, little efficiencies with certain tool choices can have a big impact. I would hope that videos like this help assist the amateur and professional alike make better choices of where to sink their cash, even if the products aren't for everyone.

Don't worry, it's me not you. Totally forgot about the connector. Had looked into previously. Annoyingly, the connector would seat the Sauter bar ok but the bars are missing to hole in the Bessey. The hole is needed for the bolts! If you had the means, you could drill the Sauter bars out I suppose. 🤷‍♂️ Failing that, it's s bessey only option.

Sauter body clamps look like a blue version of the one’s soled by Rutlands in the U.K. I have the Rutland ones and I can get enough clamping force to dent the timber even with the soft jaw Got to the end of the video and differences? Not doubting you BTW, just asking 😁

Funny, I fucking hate the F style clamps! Ive had a proper reminder today why I hate them - nearly cost me a lot of oak... Then your vid shows up lol Bar their high jaws Ive no time for them, I'd sooner use pipe clamps, they never let me down when glue is reaching set time, the bars can't take any glue spillage and be used again I haste I could go on bud, theyre too much and to little too - better clamping options out there and more so one handed too IMO.

😂 Whatever works for you with these sort of things. I love F and G type clamps for curvy stuff mainly, like you say, due to the depth. They can be a nightmare when you need quick clamping on steamed stuff though. I have a bunch of inherited sash and pipe clamps. Nearly 70 years old some of them. Still work perfect! I am a bit of a convert to these parallel jaw type ones. Clamping force of a sash/pipe but with deeper jaws. Easier to set I find too. Can get a bit expensive these though. Pipes can save a lot of money and work perfect. And you can custom length them!👍
