Nice video, the information about the blinking cursor is great, when you see it for the first time updating the BIOS it's really disturbing! Question: Did you know about the 'update order' when the BIOS version has many new versions? I have a Gigabyte AB350 Gaming-3 in bios version F5, but I don't know if there is any order to update to the latest version.

Well, that was an informative video. Really. I only wish that you hadn't left out key steps like how to back the current bios version. My x399 designare ex MB manual is very skimpy on details to this other than Do Not Flash bios without making a backup. This I believe is industrial standards for any FW updates. I built my Gigabyte x399 TR4 with much satisfaction for the most part, but I am frequently running into snags each time I add new hardware, software, or even when I decide to tear my system completely down because the workstations setup is all wrong, so I want learn about these issues and build something I know inside and out, i.e. (I have reset CMOS and used my licensed copy of Windows 10 Pro to reformat my m.2 nvme ssd during the MS win10 install process, and even tho it was a complete errasier but still there is junk left behind. Like what it looks in my BIOS as I was looking for Gigabytes secure data errase for RAID and SSD drives to ensure 100 percent total wipe of these old configuration that inevitably add to an undesirable PC build. Well, I never got to find out about how to perform a thorough ssd format. When I chose to back up my bios, it looks like there are three different sets of windows and drive configuration data saved in identically named but duplicated files, each different tho. Can all three be backed up at once, or do I need to take one at a time? I want a backup of all bios configurations, but I also would like the old ones wiped from bios if it's possible. Microsoft acc. dashboards under devices have owners PC listed and are used like a loophole if customers are unaware that a device should be removed in MS dash when attempting a fresh clean install on their PCs. If not, the minute this PC refreshes goes online, does MS.com use that old bios configuration info, especially for the PC owners looking to break from Microsoft all together.

You only need the latest BIOS unless stated in the description section for each BIOS which in that case update to that BIOS first then to the latest.

Do I need to update the bios as the first thing I do before installing the CPU or anything else? Also, the current bios version on the gigabyte website is F21 (2022/11/18) - do I always update to whatever the latest version is?

Hello and thanks for the comment and question. Lots of people never uodate their BIOS and a perfectly ok. However, I always like to uodate it for any security or vulnerability reasons. Also there could be motherboard updates for Ram compatibility and other features like if you wanted to upgrade your cpu to tye 13th gen on that MB as an example. It might already be ok. If you feel comfortable doing it then I would. Always if possible hook it up to a power supply unit, that way if the power goes out there is a less likely chance of you bricking the motherboard

But do those BIOS updates to ´fix vulneratibilities´, claiming the user won´t be able to roll back to previous BIOS versions, apply to BOTH the current as well as back-up BIOS? What if people have DUAL BIOS? Will this forcefully update BOTH? This sounds riskier than the vulnerabily issue itself. I have the original bios and this update could not only mess with my BIOS, rendendering the motherboard useless, but also deny me the safety of a dual-BIOS feature.

You have the option to leave the backup BIOS and only update the main if I'm correct. It is not risky at all. They would not release it if it was not a concern. Or you can always just keep you current one and the risk is on you.

Normally on Gigabyte MBs there is a check box after you begin the update if that MB supports backup bios. You would check it if you want it to update tgat one too. Hope that helps

Hello! As I have never updated a BIOS before, I am really concerned by the text on Gigabytes website stating that Inadequate BIOS flashing may result in system malfunction. Should I seek proffesional help with this? Since I have a Z590 AORUS XTREME motherboard which is giving me problems with RAM speeds (support for my current RAM was added in later updates and there is also a Major vulnerabilities update).

It is pretty easy to do but can be little confusing at first. If you know someone to help you the first time great. If not, just take you time and make sure you have the correct bios to flash. I have a couple other bios video that may help you in confidence.

I'm really, really concerned about updating my BIOS - it's the first gaming PC I fully bought with my own money and I spent a lot in it, it's brand new and I've never updated a BIOS before. I got a Gigabyte Aero Z790 DDR5 and I need to update the bios to activate the XMP profiles so I can use my 32GB RAM on full 5600mhz capacity. The BIOS I have is F4, the one I have to download is F9. Could you give me a few tips? Like, can I install the latest one straight away or I need to download previous versions (F5, F6 and so on) and keep updating till F9? There is no way to backup a bios. If you have daul bios, just update the main one and leave the other if you want. As far as updating to every version, no, just do the latest unless it states otherwise. Read the descriptions. You also do not need to update the bios to use xmp but if you turn it on then update the bios, you will need to turn it back on again.

As long as it is NOT a beta BIOS version, otherwise i always recomend getting the lastest for security and stability reasons. Alway read the notes for it.

Not aure what you mean? Flashback just requires you to normally rename the file so that the bios can read it.

What do i do if i can't check my current bios. I tried doing a safe boot on my pc and its just stuck in an infinite boot cycle. I have tried clearing the CMOS, but it didn't work. So i will try Q-flashing a bios update.

You should see a file that will be larger than all others. That is the only one you need to put on a thume drive to update you bios.

Hi, I'm terrified about doing this because I'm on version F23d on my AB350M-Gaming 3 motherboard and there are so many versions to download apart from that, there are also some chipset downloads I seem to need to install as well since it appears that it's required for some versions. Can you show me the order in which I should download everything to get to the latest version? Never do you have to do them 1x1. Grab the latest one and it will contain all the fixes. On occasion I have seen were it makes you update to a certain bios first then to the latest. To check for that read all release notes to the right to see if it says anything like must update to F(?) First....something like that. Hope that helps.

I asume you mean from current to latest version. Like from F1 to F 9 and you want to know if you can jump right to F9. The sort answer is yes. In so cases you must uodate to a certain version First (F1 to F5)then to the latest F9 as an example. This will be noted in the release notes right next to each BIOS version. Hope that helps

Looks like you might need a 12th gen first. You can just buy a cheap 12100. You can try the bios flash then when windows installs update the drive first thing.

If you got new Ram, then it will go back to default DDR4 speed, which is 2400. You have to turn on xmp, dock or expo.

Make sure it is formatted in FAT32 and not a large drive. Anything 32GB or smaller should be ok. Preferably 16GB or smaller. Also make sure you have the bios file needed and not the wrong one or something random.

wait... I thought you needed a thumb drive for the "flashing" process... whatever the heck that is. I've watched about 5 videos and ALL of them talk about using a thumb drive for the flashing process... but it looks like the only reason you were wanting to use a thumb drive was so you could drag and drop some update files onto your computer. Is that literally, ALL it's needed for?! I'm so confused...

There are a few ways to update your bios depending on your motherboard of course. Using a thumbdrive is needed when directly going into you bios and then the bios reads the file you downloaded and installs it. You can also use the update via internet within the bios if it supports it. A bios flash back is when no cpu or ram or ssd/hdd is needed but still need a thumbdrive. Of course if your MB supports bios flash back. Some MBs offer bios update via software but I stay far away from thoses

Sorry you are having issues. Unfortunately I do not support nor give advice for overclocking anything other than the RAM when you can use XMP/DOCP

Obviously it is bad because you you are having issue you can't resolve. Overclocking is for extreme gamers and enthusiasts. PCs are unreliable with any overclocking and will have a much shorter life span. Overclocking is very over rated and not worth it

Yes but if for some reason the new BIOS messes up at least you have an old one to go back to. However under the discription it said i would not be able to revert back once i have the new one installed. Over all yes you should do it.

q flash is great and all but alot of manufacturers have taken most of the work out of updating your bios by offering an update via internet option so nobody can brick there boards by mistake yes things can happen but id make sure my internet was stable before using internet option why gigabyte doesnt offer the option i dont understand

More than likely you are trying to flash the wrong BIOS

I have no idea what MB you have. Have you even uodated the BIOS on the MB before? Is the Flash drive small than 32GB and formatted in Fat32?
