For people that assemble their PC first: Make sure NOT to use the PC power button! Took me 30 minutes to figure this out. Just make sure your PSU is ON. Press the flash button and it will come to life and start flashing. Otherwise it will try to boot with current BIOS. I didn't think of it until I read it elsewhere. Thought I'd pass it on! 🥳

Thanks for the comment! Have added this to the description. We originally were only thinking about the people trying to update on a new build that didn't support CPU when we made this video. Have come to realize many people use this method for already built as well. Which makes sense because it's the method I prefer. 😁

Hello, thanks for your helpful comment. When you said that the Pc is already assembled, is it even the case for the CPU ? I mean, the CPU was already plugged into the motherboard while you updated the bios ?

Thanks! That was one of the the most straightforward no-stress tutorials I've ever seen. I'm about to build a pc with a 13700k, but I want to use a Z690 mobo - the Z790s are a bit lackluster for the price - and this tutorial totally demystified the bios update process. Subbed.

Hi! was just assembling my computer and not much worked. Error codes did not relate to precise component failure - apart maybe from a RAM issue... no fix on sight. People online spoke about the Qflash - and your video was really easy to guide me through the steps. Came back to my computer a minute ago and my screen displays the BIOS all good. Many thanks for the time you put to make and share that video - i very much appreciate this!

Thank you for the detailed step by step! in case someone has only a macOS and needs to create the USB flash drive make sure to format it as FAT and not ex-FAT otherwise the motherboard will shutdown after a second or two.

Thanks for uploading this video! Your video helped me bring a Z690 Aorus Pro back to life! My boss ordered it from Amazon and from Day 1 he couldn't get it to post. Debug LED's wouldn't light up at all and the CPU LED on Status LEDs was stuck on read. I tried a new PSU, removes the motherboard from the case, removed & reseated the CPU with no change. I tried QFlash a few times but never saw the QFlash LED light up. What finally got it working is for me to hold down the power button on the board for 20 seconds and then try QFlash again. Right away the QFlash LED started flashing and after it finished the Debug LEDs are live and the motherboard now posts. I greatly appreciate your video on the proper way to name the file on the USB and your instructions on removing the extra files from the USB. You've gained a Like and a Subscribe! OMG thank you. I have Z690 Aorus Master and I coundn't get it to update BIOS. Q-Flash plus was solid color no matter what, no blinking when I pressed the button. I tried several USB Flash drives (2.0, 3.0, 3.1), different USB formats, different BIOS versions from gigabyte website, it still wasn't working. Only after reading your comment and pressing the power button on motherboard for 10-20 seconds, my CPU debug LED shut off, I pressed the Q-Flash plus button and it started updateing. I spent like 3 hours trying different combinations, I had no option since I've bought 13th gen Intel CPU, but I finally figured it out thanks to you :)

Many thanks for this. I was installing 13th gen i5 on b660 master ddr4. Needed this. But everyone keep in mind, it will only work if the flash drive is smaller to allow for FAT32 format. If you have a large drive, it will most likely only format exFAT which will cause your system to keep powering down. Hope this saves you time, as I spent hours trying to figure out what was wrong!

CRAZY !! I used the Bios update from the Gigabyte app Center. Because I'm using a 4K monitor, when it came into the bios, it was all streched, I couldn't do anything. It's when it happened: I restarted my pc, no lights would show. Fans would spin, no RGB anywhere except RAM. I'm using a Aorus z690 Elite DDR5 I looked at this video, I did everything. I didn't disassemble my PC as Julien T mentionned it worked anyway. MAGIC: My computer took about 5 minutes, eventually, the LED indicators on my motherboard started cycling. The RGB everywhere started working again. Computer restarted and my keyboard and mouse started glowing too. HERE IT GETS CRAZY My PC then went into the bios. I was able to XMP to 5600mhz like my RAM is supposed to (Couldn't go above 5200mhz before) All the lights in my machine started syncing up. RAM, GPU, FANS, WATERCOOLER, MOBO. (It wouldn't be the same color before) Everything got fixed for an unfortunate little thing, thanks to this very video. Thank you very much sir.

When I assembled my computer and turned it on, nothing worked. Heres a few steps you might want to read if youre having trouble too: My initial flashing process took around 1.5 minutes for the B660 with driver revision F20, which seemed curious to me. After assembling all together and greedily starting my device, I got disappointed pretty fast. It is definetly possible to Q-flash with the CPU installed. I did that several times, although you gotta decide for yourself if you take the "risk". But to minimize any issues, I unplugged everything else, which is not needed for the flashin process including RAM. Plugged in was only the CPU, the CPU fan, the mainboard and power supply (obvously). After trying another several times with around 1.5 minuted flashing time, I came back to this video and precisely watched every step. I noticed, that my formatting process looked slightly different. The "allocation unit size" for me was set to 4096 instead of 8192 at 1:12. The next run flashing the BIOS took more than 1.5 minutes and looked different. The indicator flashed in different intervals this time during the process, the first 1.5 minutes look identically tho. BIOS loaded up successfully afterwards. I really dont know if this allocation unit size is such of a big deal in this case, it could be possible that just reformatting the USB stick did the trick, but if anyone is struggling aswell, I wanted to share.

I waited for a few minutes to make sure there was no activity on the USB drive or the motherboard led indicator. Everything in the build is brand new. Gigabyte Z690 Gaming X DDR4 i5 13600K CPU Corsair 32MB Vengeance 3600Mhz Corsair rm750x PSU I've tried reseating the RAM triple checked all my connections. I've been building PC's since Pentium 4 Extreme days so not my first build. I have a feeling the Mobo is Bricked. EDIT: After this first attempted failed I left the computer completely assembled. I had the CPU, GPU, RAM, and m.2 SSD STILL installed. I grabbed another USB drive and downloaded the BIOS file on it and did the Q Flash + and IT WORKED. PC restarted three times on its own and then it booted up into the BIOS screen. So for anyone thinking they have to have all the components uninstalled before a BIOS update I can confirm that it will still update with everything installed. I subbed to this channel because I think it's good info, so if you have a issue like me and it doesn't work, try a different USB drive!

Yes always try multiple USBs. Although sometimes just a reformat of the same one will be enough. But 90% of the time the issue is the USB drive.
@KLEEBZTECH

Especially if it seems to start working and flashing but only last a few seconds. That's almost a guaranteed sign that either the USB Drive is the issue or the wrong file or something was put on the usb.

@@KLEEBZTECH I really appreciate these straight forward videos. I am 100% positive has I had followed these Instructions with thr different USB drive it would've worked before I completed my build. I just wanted to clarify for other users that if it didn't take the BIOS update completely unassembled to try it assembled with a different USB drive. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with the community.

Really liked the video, took some of the fear away about my purchase after reading some of the comments on the GIGABYTE Z690 UD AX DDR4. My question is I am going to be using a NVME as my drive, and the processor I got was a 12700KF. Do I need to do this before trying to setup the system and install an OS or will it recognize the processor and NVME and I can just update BIOS later? I hardly know anything about BIOS stuff and am worried about messing up this process somehow if it isn't necessary, since I am only using a 12th gen. Thank you again!

just a word of caution when doing this. I was updating my own bios using this method. It just would not start the flash process. The Qflash LED would not show it was doing the process. I was 100% sure i had done nothing wrong. The issue was caused by the motherboard not liking the actual usb pen drive. I had to use good quality Kingston data traveler drive same files copied to it and it worked first time... So if you are having similar issues try this before doubting your file renaming and copying process.

Hi @Kleebz Tech , So I'm in between either an i7-12700K + B660 and just call it a day, or getting an i5-13600K and risking having to flash bios of a board this way like you did, I can only get an mATX board due to my case but I see that the GIGABYTE B660M AORUS PRO AX DDR4 also has a "BIOS USB" in the back and a Q-Flash button on the motherboard, would it be the same process as you did in this video? Also is it safe to just update to the latest/newest BIOS version available in one go? I live in the caribbean and shipping to the US proves to be VERY expensive atm idk something with customs or the economy because it didn't use to be this expensive before. Should I go the safe router and just go with the i7-12700K + B660 so the motherboard supports it right out of the box? Bricking a motherboard could be one of the worst things that could happen to me, I see the i5-13600K is faster than the i7-12700K but what are your thoughts? the i7-12700K hopefully reaches a price of 300-330$ this blackfriday, it's at 360$ rn on amazon. I mainly stream and play Fortnite.

@KLEEBZTECH Жыл бұрын
Sounds like it should be the same. And yes you will want to update to the latest. No reason to do incremental. As for which to go with that really is a matter of what you feel is what you need and if you want to play it safe or not.

I don't believe it is. None of the documentation I have read from Gigabyte seems to indicate that. The main reason most people recommend a smaller capacity 2.0 is less likely to run into issues.

Hi, I have a problem with this motherboard, or rather a question, regarding the z790 Aorus Elite DDR4... For whatever reason, I have no access to the mainboard software, i.e. the Gigabyte Control Center, because every time I try to start the software, it opens briefly and then suddenly closes again by itself.... Is there any other alternative software or general alternatives to access the functions of the mainboard? Does anyone have the same problem and know anything about it? To be honest, I don't dare enter the BIOS myself because I have absolutely no idea about such things and am afraid of accidentally setting something incorrectly or damaging it... Any helpful tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, I finally got Q-Flash Plus working. The problem for me was that my usb drive wasn't formatted as FAT32 with *8kb cluster* size. (Visible around 1:16) I tried FAT16, FAT32 with default cluster size both didn't work. Hopefully I can finally get my pc working again by restoring the old bios, because I was smart enough to make a backup of the working version.

The funny thing is I have tried different cluster sizes and couldn't reliably get it to cause problems. Sometimes 8kb clusters I would still have problems. But I've had no problems doing it other sizes as well. I think it just depends on a lot of different factors. Sometimes even just a reformat works.

@@KLEEBZTECH The thing I'm running into atm is that I cannot update my motherboard bios above F32, while the function that I need is in the F36 update :( Well I've put out a question to the motherboard manufacturer. Hello there!! Folks, let me explain the problem I’m having right now, I just bought a gigabyte A520M S2H, that should support my new cpu, a Ryzen 5 5500, i also have a DDR4 8gb, and I have also some old parts like the power supply that is a Corsair vs450 that worked till some minutes ago, and my old gpu that is a sapphire Radeon R7 240 that still worked few minutes ago. I tried to assemble everything but The screen is black and the fans are working, but there is no acoustic sound that the motherboard check the components. Right now I’m trying to use the q-flash with my pen drive that has 32 gb capacity to install the F14 bios update, that should be required to make my cpu working (I thought that the A520M was ready for my cpu apparently isn’t). If that last try of installing the bios is not working what should I do ? Plz help me (sry for my bad English)

This is my first time updating BIOS. I've been told to do this because of random reboots problem. I followed your instruction updating BIOS of my b560m Aorus elite from F7 to F8. The only difference was I kept all the peripherals intact including ram and CPU. At first, the q-flash led blinking but PSU didn't turn on for about a minute (I'm using 400w digital alliance PSU). Then suddenly the system turned on as if I pressed the power button. All the fans spin in unusually high RPM. The q-flash LED kept blinking. After about 5-10 minutes (which felt like forever to me), the blinking stopped and the PC tried to boot but failed with continues short beeps and no signal on the monitor. It then tried to reboot but repeatedly doing the same thing like a boot loop (at this moment I almost cried). I then held the power button to turn it off and thought that I finally bricked my motherboard. I then tried to boot the PC once again with only 1 stick of RAM. After several beeps and reboots, it magically boots to windows. Upon opened SIV, it recalibrated all the fans and shows the updated BIOS version which is F8. In the end I was successful, but it was an intense and heart-pounding experience. Thank you
