Nice video. Sure wish an explanation of rod model, proper explanation of rig up (size hooks, weight of line, split shot weight, depth, species of bait, etc.) Most of us like to know that stuff as well.

I caught my first pike that size this summer off shore :D I was so excited! But really hard to unhook, i was very unprepared as a catch and release person and being by myself, but I was able to safely release him and he swam away: )

try large live baits, sucker minnows, or pull large shad raps. I've caught 3 of them while fishing for walleyes on night crawlers attached to a lake spinner.

I absolutely applaud you all for releasing these fish. I know alot of idiots that would keep all they can....and sadly, that's why our world is doomed eventually. 30 years ago I never caught little 4 inch sunnies all day. Now, it's so common. Wonder why.... Enjoyed your video. Babe is a class act.

Is it common to use circle hooks for pike? In the UK we use trebles, but I've been considering using circle hooks. What's the bite to hook-up ratio like? And do you loose many fish?

You shouldn't cause skin damage by letting the fish lie on the frozen snow. And on fish that size, don't damage the gill plates by holding with one hand … support the stomach with the second hand.

Can anyone explain how to set these type tip-up rod combo's ? What kind of rod holder/tip up is that? Please explain a little about the rig if possible string pound test, hook size/style, etc. Thanks so much !
@bryanlammers84237 жыл бұрын
I use a 30" medium heavy rod with 20# suffix 832 ice line with an HT rod tender. its basically a 1x3 piece of wood about 18 inches long and it comes with a clip that holds your line and a standard rod holder on the back.and when a fish takes it make sure your bale is open so it can peel line. once that tab is flipped it throws the flag. go set the hook my man. I always use a 20" leader with heavy clasps too. single 1/0 treble with dead smelt. poke the minnow through the belly and set it about 12-18" off bottom.

Lol if you caught a fish that big in the uk it would snap that little rod in half
@ashtonturner38478 жыл бұрын
why don't you guys use treble hooks?
@poxpox29177 жыл бұрын
They use circle hooks, circle hooks set themselfs. So they can set multiple lines and not have to worry about setting the hooks
@isellcatlitter6 жыл бұрын
also in Canada EVERY HOOK (at least in the Providences of Manitoba and Ontario) must be de-barbed (squish the barb flat to the hook with a pliers) or barb less (just a wire with a single point), this is on the USA side of the lake, so barbed hooks are legal
