The designs and choices of playable Joes in this game (along with the Cobras and the vehicles) were made based on the toys available in stores at the time of development ('88 is probably when development started, so a few Joes from '86 and a ton from '87 would still be in stores). For instance, they're using Tiger Force Duke (instead of the '83 color scheme), Battle Armor Cobra Commander, Iron Grenadiers (gold face) Destro, jet pack General Hawk, goggle-and-butterfly-knife Snake Eyes (instead of his more popular visor look), etc. So that's why no Scarlett or Baroness. Even though you could still mail away for Snow Job (and Iceberg, the African-American snow trooper) at the time, it was Blizzard who was on toy shelves. But yeah, he totally sucks.

Thank you for making these. I am not good at gaming. I loved this (and Atlantis factor) and rented a lot back in the day! I can’t remember if I finished the third quest or not. Always found weird having Range Viper as a boss, considering they are a special division of troops and not just one individual. I had the action figure and it was one of my faves! It was lot of fun trying to recognize the enemies in the game: incinerators, laser vipers, tele vipers, annihilators, cobra eels, cobra la’s royal guards (the guys throwing the swords), night creepers etc. Btw, I don’t think this game is similar to contra as you claimed at the beginning of the video (except for some boss battles maybe). That’s like saying castlevania is similar to ninja gaiden… Nice video as always and hope you do Atlantis factor in the future!! Or maybe Kickmaster, 8 eyes…

Blizzard was my favorite figure and I am one of his fans. I liked to use him on stage 4 to fight Road Pig. He can shoot through walls, so you can stand directly below Road Pig and shoot up through the platform. I also liked to fully power up all of the characters so if all three guys die on stage 6 you still have a fully powered Blizzard to use on your second attempt.
@PaleHorseShabuShabu2 жыл бұрын
I _love_ this game and still play it every so often. My only issue is that they went with who was on shelves at the time rather than an "all star" lineup of Joes. I don't mind Snake Eyes, Rock 'n' Roll, and Duke, but take out Blizzard and Gridiron and give us Stalker and Scarlett and I'd be happy. The game is a touch too easy, too, but the fun factor outweighs that. Also, a lot of the classic villains like Baroness, Xamot and Tomax, Zartan, Firefly, and Major Bludd are missing. I never really got into the sequel, probably because the little indy shop where I rented the first game didn't have the second game.
@JazGalaxy2 жыл бұрын
I guess I kind of felt the opposite. I was happy that they went with deeper cuts than the standard “main characters” that one might have expected. But a wider roster wouldn’t have hurt.
@co813852 жыл бұрын
I always liked Captain Grid-Iron, so I was happy that he was included. I'm surprised that Road Block and Flint weren't in the game, as well as Scarlett or Lady Jaye. I wouldn't call this game easy- I remember the difficulty going way up once you get to the desert mission.
@PaleHorseShabuShabu2 жыл бұрын
@@co81385 My issue with Gridiron is that he felt like "Football Guy," and while I like football, he felt like a shallow gimmick much the same way Big Lob from the animated movie was little more than "Basketball Guy." I know GI Joe the cartoon was wildly unbelievable in a ton of different ways, but with the individual characters, there's a line that some of them cross that make me not like them. Quick Kick is the same way. I wouldn't have minded Roadblock, but Stalker felt more believable and realistic to me. Even when I was a kid, Roadblock's constant jive talking grated and felt unbelievable. Lady Jaye would have been cool, especially if they worked in a way to get Flint in there in tandem with her. As for the difficulty, it's easy for me, but I played this game a lot. When I play the same game a lot, it becomes easy for me, like Double Dragon III, Castlevania III, and TMNT are all easy games that I can still sit and finish nine times out of ten.
