Iirc, Yoshi was scrapped from the original super mario because of memory limitation, as the cart had only 40kb. In the end of the NES era, not only memory was cheaper, but programmers had figured out how to swap between memory banks, allowing for bigger games.

FF 3 maxed out the NES cartridge with 500 Kilobytes. Since Mario bros. was a launch title, it makes sense.

Yo, this sounds crazy, but there's a demake of Final Fantasy VII for NES. Yes, FF7. On NES. It even has a fan made English translation and difficulty balance patch.
@gwarriorfromhell4 жыл бұрын
I was hoping to see that on this list. It's actually a decent demake for what it is.
@neoqwerty4 жыл бұрын
There's patches for not only translation, balance, and all that, but bugfixes AND inserting the proper FF7 famitracker music where it should go. That thing has received a surprising amount of care being made and that made it relatively easy to fix up into an actual full-blown demake.
@ZeeBeeZB4 жыл бұрын
It even takes random pixel art from other games as well. Quattro Bajeena (AKA not Char) from Zeta Gundam shows up as one of the goons trying to kidnap Aerith

FFVII on NES is pretty hot garbage, when played in the original Chinese bootleg format. Copy and paste assets from FFII and FFIII, ear rape tier knockoff tracks from the two games that loop endlessly at times, removing 45% of the game, numerous bugs that prevented progression at times, etc. Were it not for the patches done from ROMhacking.net that actually made it resemble the original 7 in some manner and fixed the bugs to be playable, it would still be a terrible mess.
@Hijiri_MIRACHION4 жыл бұрын
Actually, there's NES ports of quite a few Pokemon RPGs, for Kanto I'd recommend Pokemon Yellow (that one even has an English translation so you don't have to read Chinese), though not the most accurate experience, it's certainly one of the best. Kanto also has a Pokemon Red bootleg by Waixing. The common ROM glitches up at Viridian Forest though (I say this as I was still able to encounter Wild Pokemon during this screen, meaning the game must be running), and it's not very good. I've got a rom that lets you continue past that point, so PM me if you're interested! Also, as one last point, the battle theme in the Pokemon Red bootleg is "Hall of the Mountain King". For Johto, there's Mars' Pokemon Gold, which while not as bad as Waixing's work is terrible. HOWEVER, there is a port of what is apparently HeartGold that uses Platinum's graphics. This one appears to be decent, but just be careful as at some point in the Mr. Pokemon sidequest you can get softlocked. I'm not sure if this has the entire game, though. HeartGold can only run on more advanced emulators (FCEUX is what I used), and it uses Hoenn music for some reason. For Hoenn, there's of course Pokemon Diamond. It's split into three parts, and they each cover part of the story. The first goes up to Mauville, the second goes up to the part where you confront Team Magma/Aqua, and the third is the conclusion. Kanto also has a game like this, called Pokemon LeafGreen (Yes, not FireRed, oddly enough). I don't remember much about it, though. Again, LeafGreen uses Hoenn music, so that's odd. Hoenn also has what I'd consider is the worst of these, a game called "Kou Dai Zhuan Zi" or something like that (I remember translating that, and it coming out to "Pocket Decorations Diamond", so basically it's another Pokemon Diamond). It glitches out at the bottom of the screen, so much so that I didn't even know that continuing on was even possible until later, the overworld theme is "Oh, Susannah" and the battle theme is a mangled version of the surfing theme from the original game. Speaking of battle, the characters appearance in the overworld (Brendan, as these bootlegs only have male playable characters) is not reflected either there or in the trainer card (these screens show the player being Kris instead, someone who didn't appear in Ruby and Sapphire, was replaced with Lyra in the real HeartGold and SoulSilver, and was only bought back in Pokemon Masters.) I have different versions of this rom that are less glitchy, including one where the battle sprites actually match the overworld sprite, so again, PM me if you're interested! There's also a port of Pokemon Platinum, but unlike Pokemon Diamond, this one actually takes place in Sinnoh! Again, I'm not sure if they managed to cram the entire game in here or not. This one also requires FCEUX, and also has Hoenn music... That's all the ones I know of, and as far as I know, nothing past this was ever done for the NES, so no bootleg ports of Unova, Kalos, Alola or Galar games exist.
