We have a citron crested. I see a lot of goffins that have major plucking issues more so than all cockatoos? Goffins are the best dancers. I love them so much.

I have a 23 yr old female,Mattie and a 10 yr old male. Frosty. They have nightly screamfest sessions before bedtime. Its adorable. They have been slowly getting aquainted for about 4 mos. hes not as tame and sweet as she is so we are working on that. Im hopeing they will eventually bond and start breeding. I love goffins. ❤️😀

As soon as he gets some recognition, the cheeky eye while preening. OMG haha mine do this to me too. There's NO PARROT MORE MANIPULATIVE than a cockatoo. Thanks for posting! I have a u2 and an m2 and I've never heard a goffin's scream so I checked out this video. Ugh. Small package, large scream. There's a lady trying to sell a screamer Goffin for 1200 in my area and I'm going to offer her 0 dollars and a forever home.... But she won't take it. I hate how people fail to research these birds!
@UpintheOaks_19 жыл бұрын
Tara Lynn Thanks! That is exactly why I posted this video. They look so cute, but then they can be very, very loud. Nobody wants to put up the negative side of their pets. Gimli is very quiet, for a cockatoo, but he makes this sound when he wants us to go to bed. Last night, after everyone was in bed, he started this screaming. I got up and found someone had left a light on. I hope he can also alert us to something important, but he usually just hisses if he's disturbed in the dark.

Very accurate description! Even when they're happy, they can be loud. It takes the smallest thing to make them unhappy. Sometimes I think it's the wind that causes Arthur to scream, because he doesn't liek the shadows of the trees on our house. About 92-93 decibels from how I've measured it. Boo and Arthur have different screams and I can tell them apart by voice.

If he does that all the time when you are not there for example its because he is scared alone.. put him in a cage when he goes to sleep and cover him with a blanket (the whole cage I mean) and if not sleep next to it but very close so that he wont be scared.. Hope I helped you out

Please Search up sun conures. They are much much louder.
@UpintheOaks_19 жыл бұрын
crayfishtickler2 Sunnies are very loud, too, especially a lot of them. If you don't think Gimli is loud, then your speakers are not reproducing it properly. Not only is this cry loud, it's meant to carry a long distance, so it has a weird vibration to it that hits a nerve in your head that goes down to your backbone. You can't get that from a computer speaker, not even my Boze can reproduce it - it just sounds like scratching. OH, NO! Gimli just answered himself and he was sitting right next to me!!! OUCH! Thanks for the demo, Gimli. Yes, you are louder than the bird on the video.
@parrots4life748 жыл бұрын
+BabyCola Sun conures are very loud, no doubts there, but cockatoo are loud on a whole different level, their voices carry, not to say sunnies can't, but cocktoos will travel not only to your net door neighbours, but across at least 4 houses along. And if done next to your ear, can actually do harm and leave a ringing for 10 minutes or so.

I want to get a goffin but I go to to school on weekdays from 7 to 2. In The morning and afternoon when I get home I will let out and give it lots of attention specially on the weekends if I'm not working. But is that enough? Will it get lonely and sad? My house is also on the load side I want to make sure that the noise will not scare it. Should I get a cockatiel instead? I hear they require less attention and are still very cuddly and good birds.

His nares look like he needs a good bath. Not a criticism, just an observation. I love my Alex GT but only respond to him when he talks and ignore him when he screams. Thank you for rescuing him! I help run an exotic bird rescue in Portland Oregon and know how important it is to rescue when and where you can.

Jarrine Shaw - Yes, he loves baths and has one available all the time - his big water bowl. He especially loves to be sprayed. He was found on a road in 1998, neglected for 4 years, then given to us in '02.

I hate this attitude that all bird owners seem to have when they post videos online. They're always very preachy, OH YOU THINK YOU CAN HANDLE A BIRD? YOU CAN'T. Like somehow you're the only person in the entire world who's a special enough snowflake to handle owning a bird. I have a Goffin myself and she's very loud and very needy, but it's not like it's not something anyone could handle without the proper training. I know that people taking in birds and then deciding they don't want them is a real issue, but I don't think the way to go about fighting for them is to try to scare people away from owning one. Inform people, don't talk down on them.
@UpintheOaks_17 жыл бұрын
The comment wasn't aimed at you, it was at all those people who think cockatoos are "cute" or "sweet." If I only put up the video of him picking cards or taking a bath, it would be deceptive. If you watched the whole thing, you would see that he calmed down and wanted a scratch. I know someone who runs a puppy mill for Umbrellas and I think it's very irresponsible for people buying them not to know what they are getting into, which you would have gotten if you read all my comments, too. I've had Gimli since 2002 and this is just a sample of what he is capable of, as you know, they have an alarm scream that's twice as penetrating as this. This is just his "I need attention" noise. I never said "YOU CAN'T" or even yelled in all-caps, so please, next time you want to attack a video, please put yourself back into the freezer before melting.
@mmsolo51077 жыл бұрын
I hear you Jet. I've grown tired of the high and mighty preaching. I own an Eclectus and they can get extremely loud. I just think there is a better way of informing people instead of the high and mighty approach.

Is this a normal scream or something he does due to his difficult past?
@UpintheOaks_17 жыл бұрын
From what I've read, this is normal behavior and normal volume. He doesn't chew like other Goffin's so he has been cage-free since we got him. He doesn't have all his toes, so he only lands on certain things.

this is the very reason why I hate birds now. My mom got one and I have an instant headache when I hear this. The bird is sweet and doesn't bite but is extremely loud. that bird caused my mom and I to have relationship problems to this day.
@UpintheOaks_17 жыл бұрын
Tyler, I'm so sorry to hear that! My husband doesn't like Gimli, but if he ever seriously wanted me to get rid of him, I would. Don't let an animal come between you and your mom! She can't give him up because that bird will be with her long after you have left and you can't wait for it to die before making up with your mom. Since you are a child of hers and not her husband, you don't have the authority to ask her to get rid of it. If it's still alive now, wear big soundproof earphones (earbuds or plugs don't make a statement) whenever you are near the bird - maybe your mom will get the hint and move the bird to another room when you are there. It's worth a try! If nothing else you will be protecting your hearing.
