I am in my mid fifties and I have been playing drums since the 70's, but I have to say that you did a wonderful job showing this process for playing drums. You were clear, succinct and informational. Not to mention that I love your voice, it is so soothing and a pleasure to listen to, being cute does not hurt either. I think I will click subscribe just to hear you more and to see you play. Great job Take care, from the left coast.

Gina Knight You made me blush.....your welcome. I did watch some of your other videos and must also say you play quite well. Where were you when I was in Band, Marching Band, Orchestra and Jazz band during High School In the 70's. We could have used more girls like you. Glad to see more girls playing and also at such a high caliber of playing. I have a 6 year old grandaughter, and would love for her to take on drumming, but we will wait and see (She is a little on the independent wild side, just like a drummer heh heh). Keep up the good work.

EchosFromaBlankMind Thanks so much, and please give my best to your spitfire granddaughter! ;) My first instrument was piano -- I started when I was 5 years old, and had 5 years of it - I am really grateful for that foundation now when looking back.

Gina Knight Who knows what she will get into, her brother just started the trumpet and he is doing well. Whatever she wants to do, I will be behind her, plus I don't have to hear her practice, Ha Ha! Just kidding. Luckily I can still read music, just a bit rusty on it. You are a great inspiration to girls/woman from all over, keep up the good work. Better than religion any day!

I watched several other how to's on youtube that were supposed to explain how to put the hi hat together & out of all of them yours was by far the best & easiest to understand. The others left me still not knowing how to put it together & yours I had it done in less than your 3 minute video. LOL! Thanks! It didn't even matter that the brand was different. Nice and clear!

Great video! One thing, though. Just some advice from many years of touring and playing. Loosen the hi hat clutch just a bit. In the same way that tightening cymbal felts prevent the cymbal from vibrating freely a clutch that is too tight does the same thing. As opposed to crash or ride cymbals where you can hear the cymbal being choked, you might not hear a sonic difference on the hi hat. Where you will see it is in circular cracks in the bell of the cymbal. Just a suggestion, but your vids are great!!!

I think I figured out what's wrong. I'm using the terminology I saw on one web page. It seems like the rod isn't moving independently of the inner tube. I think it's too tightly connected. I tried loosening the rod. It turns (with a pliers), but never gets loose enough to actually function properly with the pedal. I can physically (and with effort) move it up and down inside the inner tube with my hand, but not with the pedal. Am I supposed to lubricate the inside of it? When I force it, it sounds scratchy.

Gina Knight I need your help I'm new to drumming, while playing my hi hat stopped going up and down. I tried taking it apart but nothing seems to work, I'm not sure what's wrong. The bottom rod seems fine and is moving but the top rod just sinks down a lot and doesn't move. I could really use some help drumming isn't the same without a hi-hat :(
@dakotacollins7029 жыл бұрын
Ashley Mendoza Did you check to make sure the two rods are connected. You can take both hi hat cymbals off then pull the stand up and there will be an opening where you can see if the two rods are connected. They screw together and that's what makes the hi hat clutch together. Same thing happens to me or at least that what it sounds like.
@AshleyMendozaThegreatashleyto9 жыл бұрын
Dakota Collins I checked too see if they were connected but their not how can I connect them is their like a screw? It looks like their is something missing when I took them apart, It doesn't seem to connect at all.
@dakotacollins7029 жыл бұрын
Ashley Mendoza Mine screw together. For me the bottom one is the screw part and the top part screws around. But I think on most drum kits they have the screw part on top and the bottom screws on. Either way there are two rods in the the hi hat that screw together one is the top one that you put your hi hat cymbals on and the other one is on the bottom and is connected to the hi hat.

Sorry for the newbie question. My hi-hat collapsed. I'm trying to fix it. I think I'm doing everything correctly, but when I use the pedal the whole assembly goes up and down. Depending on the movement of the top hat and the type of sound you want to hear...do not tighten the top hat too much. I personally like it lose to get that sloshy feel that you cannot attain playing the hat partially opened.
