( Chimera Arc + Election Arc Spoilers below) In the manga, (chapter 1) it says he was forced to give Gon up because Mito was worried about his safety. But that doesn’t excuse the fact that when Gon was on his death bed after his fight with Pitou, like he could literally die at any second, but his father didn’t even take five minutes to visit him because “he had good friends, he’ll be okay”. What kind of bs logic is that? Gon’s only desire was to meet his father. That’s all he wanted. Even when he did finally meet him, he was annoyed and the crowd literally had to boo at him to make him talk to his son. 💀 Leorio, a man who isn’t related to Gon literally cried like a baby when he found out he was okay. He was willing to become president of the hunters association just to have a *chance* of helping Gon. But Ging couldn’t even visit him for five minutes. If you asked me, I’d say Gon met his true father in episode 1. Leorio. Ging is a good character, but a good father? Nope, not one bit! It’s -almost- *is* laughable how bad of a father Ging is. “Want to have a five minute conversation with me, son? Okay, meet me on top of the tallest tree in the world 🤪”

@@tsuyuasui7297 because the manga told us otherwise, yet people always miss the most important details: Ging DIDNT abandon his child. He took him to Whale island after already having taken care of him for many years, and he was expecting to come back for him, but Mito won custody cause she didn't want Gon to go around the world with him, and presumably Ging was given the option to stop being a hunter to stay with his son, and he decided to leave. Was she right? Yes because Ging is a bad dad. Does that mean he didn't care about Gon? Well if he didn't care he wouldn't have raised him the first couple years, take him to Greed Island to tell him one day he'd be there, etc. It speaks a lot from him to just leave, but it's fair if you consider that Mito was a far better parent and Gon doesn't even consider Ging his dad, saying that Ging HAD to stay with Gon is like saying a parent can't give up their child for adoption even if they know they won't be great parents. There's all the pieces there but people fall for the obvious things like "oh how could he not go look at his son when he was dying", when again, that's what a father would do, and he's not his dad, he decided to respect Gon's wish as a hunter because he knows he wouldn't like him to get visited by him.
@sarveshnathan75592 жыл бұрын
First off, Light's dad died, so..... Also if we follow your logic, Sanji's dad is a good father since the harsh training he put his kids through made them powerful and respected warriors of the kingdom Ozai is a good father since Zuko said that being banished set him on the right path Same with every kid in anime who toughened due to having asshole parents (Todoroki, Gaara, Lelouch, just to name a few) A loving father, first and foremost should be there for their kids, and be a source of emotional support and treat them with love and care. No says shit like "I don't want to see you" or showing absolutely no concern over the fact that your son is critically injured in a coma. Ging definitely deserved that punch from Leorio.
@arcanefury36662 жыл бұрын
Nah. I have to disagree. We can make all the excuses for literally everything but what about the hospital. Gon was a mummy. Gon was so fucked up that they had to use magic from Killua's Cthullu possed sister to save him and promise to never use magic again. The kid wouldve died. Yeah he was probably playing the "im a shitty dad" card up for the audience so they'd vote for anyone else but why didnt he at least leave the kid a note or something? Why'd he try to sneak away? Did he even feel a little guilty? This wasnt like Naruto or DBZ hospitalized this was like hospice care hospitalized. This was spend as much time as you can with them cause they'd be dead in days and he doesnt even spend much if any time with Gon.

I think its either stated by him or later by Gon but the phrase "does he wants to see me" gives you the answer. First off, Gon doesn't consider Ging his dad and Ging doesn't consider himself the boy's father, Mito won custody so he doesn't have that role. Second, characters like Leorio don't get the nuance, they hate how much of a bad dad he is but in reality, Gon would have HATED if Ging showed up to see him, that's what he'd expect from a dad but their relationship was merely cat and mouse, he wanted to find Ging himself so Ging accepts getting punched.

you are fatherless
@rubberducky13562 жыл бұрын
I disagree with this but interesting take imho. Setting Gon onto the path of becoming a hunter isn’t a sign of good parenting. It’s the opposite. Gon has huge abandonment and self-image issues due to his father leaving and becomes a hunter simply because he wanted to prove to Ging that he’s strong enough and worthy of accompanying him. When Ging dropped him off he had no reason (other than pure arrogance) to believe that Gon was special in any way since he was a literal baby. (Assuming he wasn’t able to use weird nen stuff to test Gon’s potential) The reason Gon was so determined to become a hunter, so determined not to lose to the ninja or to Hisoka, so determined to get stronger, so determined to win fights against people like the bomber, and so determined to become phenomenal in the first place is because he was abandoned due to, from his perspective, not being worthy of Ging’s time. Ging didn’t set this up out of malice, malevolence, or anything like that. He simply felt too ashamed to meet with Gon after abandoning him and wanted Gon to prove how badly he wanted to meet him before he did. The entire story was Gon attempting to prove he was worthy of Ging’s time while Ging was busy doing his own stuff without caring about what was going on. I don’t think Ging was the worst father since he still liked Gon while some fathers don’t but he’s a very bad one for abandoning him in order to explore.

Just because he did something to make him stronger...doesn't make him a good dad. Being a good father isnt about making your materially successful (or as a hunter), he shouldn't be being pushed into being a great hunter, some things should be avoided even if they make someone stronger or richer or whatever way you measure success. Sanji's dad also did everything he could to make his kids as powerful as possible and stamp out any weakness, that doesn't remotely constitute fatherly behaviour. secondly you have no proof that Gings absence is the only thing that made Gon a Hunter, because we dont actually now who or what Gon would be if Ging stayed. Countless anime protags are raised until Gon's age or older and still feel the call to adventure or are sent away by their parents to live in the wider world, so the absence of parents isn't less of big deal just because its a common trope. I think you even said it yourself, he failed as a traditional dad but succeeded as a dad raising a hunter. Unfortunately that means he is a bad parent, and a good mentor of Hunters...that however has nothing to do with fatherhood because being dad isnt about making the most bad ass kid ever. Even the faith Ging has i him is NOT a good thing, just because your kid can overcome something doesnt mean you should toss them i the deep end. Ging was happy to let Razor kill Gon, and while its nice that he believed in Gon, leaving your son to die if they dont perform at the level you'd like is absurd. The truth is Ging is just selfish, like the Zodiacs said, Ging only really cares about having fun and doing things that interest him. So much so that he wont even slow down to raise Gon for even just 10 years. You mentioned that he couldn't take Gon on his trips so he abandoned him...and that also patently not ok. EVERYBODY lives a less adventurous when they bring a child into the picture. Its not that he was forced to go somewhere and couldnt take Gon, its that raising Gon would mean settling down for while, thinking of someone other than himself and Ging just ain't about that.

All I got to say is this, ging is not a perfect father by no means but he's a lot better compared to other father figures in HxH, look at Silva Zoldyck and killua, Silva never gave killua the choice to be a assassin not only that but him (killua) and his siblings were out right tortured to become the best of the best, now look at ging, the best hunter, thats a life that could easily kill any lesser man let alone a infant, Gon would have been put in constant danger if ging decided to keep him. why he is leagues better than Silva as a dad, is that he gives gon a choice, to live the life of a hunter or a normal one (or at least as normal as a fatherless childhood goes), if ging truly did not care about him, he would have never left those clues behind or talked to his buddies at greed island about informing gon.

Everyone here is looking at Ging in the wrong context. GING TRIED HIS BEST TO HIDE WHO HE WAS AND WHAT A HUNTER IS FROM GON!!! And at the point he couldn't, constantly left Gon with the question, "Do you truly want to become a hunter," just because being a hunter alone is messed up in HxH, their all evil-selfish people as explained by Ging multiple times, which he left for Gon, sure it is definitely extra to want to make an entire island for your son who you don't want to have to be forced to become the same type of person you are, but then again ego, vices, and Ging's driven desires could have influenced why he created an entire island dedicated to his son, that's almost impossible to find by any normal human. Its true that, in our world, not fiction, it's easy to call a father, who doesn't want his child to be in his life, "Bad," but even being a hunter in the past is too dangerous in the world of HxH, by the time Gon could've been born Ging would've been too infamous, a good analogy for this is a father, who's life revolves around professional crime, like in a crime syndicate, there's no perfect way for such a person, to just live within their child's life without their child becoming a criminal(Hunter) or prey(Hunted)

Ging was reassured to know gon had friends that cared about him. Additionally, when Gon was speaking to ging for the first time and said he should have died instead of kite, Ging made a face that looked like he disagreed with Gon and interrupted Gon from continuing this line of thinking. Also, ging gave Gon his apple when Gon made it to the top of the tree. Then, they spent the evening regaling all of their adventures. I don’t think Ging is the best example of a dad, but thinking that he has no affection for his son, I don’t agree with that.
