the GOAT fused with the GOAT and resulted in the birth of THE GOAT. that aside, people often get annoyed while watching the episode seeing vegeta refuse to fuse throughout the whole episode. but when he does mention the reason it hits where it hurts the most. Vegeta let babidi take control of him to get a boost, he finally went toe to toe with ssj2 goku and arguably even overpowered him, only to realise that goku hid ssj3 from him and if goku were to go ssj3 he wouldve dogwalked vegeta. And then vegeta blew himself up in an attempt to kill buu only to realise that didnt do shit and now buu is way way way stronger than he was in their last encounter. Goten and trunks fused to become gotenks and acheived ssj3. Gohan got his potential unlocked and is arguably the strongest individual fighter currently. Goku, Gohan, gotenks all of em are capable of atleast surviving against buu but vegeta is left behind to eat dust. He is just tooo weak. THAT is his humiliation and i felt so so sad when i watched that scene for the first time. He did everything he could, grabbed every opportunity he could find to become stronger yet he is literally the weakest of the saiyans right now. (vegeta didnt know about gohan and gotenks's strengths at this point obviously, im just stating whats actually happening).

Fun fact, this dialogue existed to "explain" why goku didn't use SSJ3 in their fight, because that fight actually happened before Akira Toriyama even created the form. When Goku and Majin Vegeta fought at that point in time he legit hadn't created the form yet. He did it to kinda boost interest in the Manga since people didn't like Buu (the fat version) that much and were not as into the Buu arc at first. So to explain it away it was said that Goku held back in the fight.

Than there is also him not being alive to you must think about that. Also fun note before gotenks was even born they were trying to work on goku and vegeta fusing as we'll to stop buu but instead they put gogeta in last to be in a movie. So really gogeta came before any fusion happen.

It makes sense too that Goku would hold back because he goes out of his way to have a good fight, so he'll only use as much power as he needs to to fight his opponents. Toriyama may not have created it yet but things still make sense as it played out.

The explanation works flawlessly though. If Goku uses SSJ3 vs. Vegeta then he would have expended all his time on earth. It is NOT Goku wanting to make Vegeta believe he can win. SSJ3 was a final resort against Buu when his time was almost up regardless.

Broly movie references ToP, the events of the movie are referenced in the arcs after the movie, and Broly himself appears after the movie. Broly movie is canon The Janemba encounter is never referenced anywhere, nor does it’s placement in the story fit anywhere because Goku and avegeta are dead but Gohan and the others are not fighting Buu. Also, in the Broly movie Gogeta comes up with his name for the first time, confirming it’s his debut ”canonically”. Janemba movie not canon.

If you look at comparisons of Gogetas and Vegitos face, you can see that Goku and Vegeta's face each occupy one half, and it is flipped for the other fusion method. For instance, with Vegito, Goku has the right half and Vegeta has the left, and with Gogeta the sides are reversed. Real clever.

I'm not gonna lie, in this episode of DBZ and many others in this franchise, this is the problem with goku as well as the Saiyan race it seems. They don't fight going all out, they only power up just enough to enjoy a fight, or waste time and energy trying to size up opponents. Goku said to Vegeta "The more time you and spend fighting the more damage I receive to fuel Majin buu, so if it's alright with you let's just skip the warmup". I know it's for the story but strategically if he actually meant what he said hold nothing back, Majin buu wouldn't have been revived, Vegeta wouldn't blew himself up for nothing and their loved ones wouldn't have been killed/eaten/absorbed.

This is yet another moment I'm sure we've all been waiting for, to see Alexis reaction. People often debate which fusion is stronger, the gogeta fusion from the movie or this one. Vegeta's pride was the key to it taking so long; other people in the comments have explained the issue, so I won't retread it again. Although Vegeta is my favorite character, and I understood his viewpoint, Goku was a 1000% correct in his speech. This was one of the moments I was the most proud of Vegeta, setting aside his pride to fuse with somebody he actually hates LOL

Vegeta wasn’t upset at the fact that Goku was stronger and could go SSJ3. He was more upset that he thought he was the strongest one and that there was no other way to defeat Buu. Sacrificing himself thinking nobody was able to beat Buu and come to find out Goku was holding back. Hence saying “he sacrificed himself based on a lie”

A little mistranslation : people changed into food don't become parts of Majin Buu, they died and that's all. Only the ones he absorbed still live in his body until they totally become parts of him. Like the South Kaiôshin and the Great Kaiôshin. Majin Buu (fat) is an exception

Fun note before vegito showed up. The time fat buu arrived people in japan never liked fat buu and also don't like seeing goku died. Also they never liked the long scene of goku going SSJ3 and vegeta doing the final flash. But outside of japan people loved the SSJ3 scene and the final flash scene. Heck there was a time where japanese animated actually did listen to the people of the west more cause they realize the difference between what japanese people liked and people outside of japanese. That's why you see now if you go to japan lots of western influence is there or different countries culture. Some famous author in japan actually goes and study in the west cause its easy and fun. The man issue animated has in japan is over working and the work environment is not good. You should react to some of the videos on people making about it cause its all facts.

Also fun note about the fusions gogeta was supposed to come out first but it took so much time to figure out when he is going to come so they made gotenks as a testing ground. That's why they didn't go so serious with gotenks and made him a joking matter. Than the weird animation when gohan was fighting buu is when they had to change how goku was coming back as that's when they had a fan meet up and ask about how they like the series so far and lots of people asked for goku to come back. So the fusions would have been gotenks and gogeta but instead they made vegito to be a faster fusion method.

Actually Gogeta IS canon now. Just not the movie. In one of the more recent movies (not gonna say the name since that title itself is spoilers for Alexis, but i assume you know this already Mike, but yea, that movie is canon and has the Fusion Dance to form Gogeta. Fusion Reborn's events are still not canon, but Gogeta being in the more recent movie, that one IS canon and takes place after DBSuper.

@shawn1832 The Old Kai stated the Potara fusion is better than the dance, and additionally mention how Goku and Vegeta being rivals gives the fusion with Potaras even bigger boost. So according to that, the Potara Fusion makes a stronger fighter. It was thought that it’s because with the dance, you need 2 people with equal powers, for example Trunks having to lower his power to match Gotens, so the Fusion might lose some power due to that, while the Potaras do not have that restriction. However, nowadays they have pretty much retconned that, and both fusions are just as powerful so that one doesn’t overshadow the other.

The DBZ movies aren't canon, but they are still within the timeline and where they happened within that timeline. They don't serve any real connection because they contradict the main story of the franchise within DBZ. So, they can seem out of place or go backwards with certain details. While DBS (Dragon Ball Super) movies do fall within the main story line and plot of things moving forward.
