In recent years there has been a outbreak of "Ouija board gone wrong" incidents coming from schools. All across the globe, children are said to have summoned terrifying paranormal entities using spirit boards... with dire consequences, including sickness, hospitalisations and, even, demonic possession. Such a supernatural epidemic of creepy Ouija board hauntings has even been reported within U.S. Marine barracks. According to some, such spirit boards are portals, capable of summoning malevolent non-human intelligences, interdimensional demons who want only one thing - to bring evil to the human world...

Those kids in particular were sickened by the environment in a country with a poor infrastructure. A government blaming an Ouija Board is the utmost ridiculous excuse to use in explaining away the real reason those kids were sick in the first place as opposed to taking responsibility for its lack of concern regarding its country's environment and its civilian population. This video is a political disservice to the people of that country by not only siding with a corrupt government but your subjective socially constructed superstitious and fictitious interpretation of real life is just as disturbing. It is a sign that there is something totally wrong with westernized society as a whole.

There's a bunch of people in this genre that are nigh unbearable to listen to. Their presentations are classless and exploitive. When I first clicked on one of your video's, I was fully prepared to immediately click away upon hearing the narrator, but to my surprise, you were not only pleasant, but your presentations are so well done and respectful to the stories and the individuals involved. It's quite rare among the others in this field, and it's immeasurably appreciated. Thank you for being so classy and professional. Instant sub! ^_^

Back in my high school days in the Philippines, we played this game. So, yes, there is this epidemic. Now, our school was a Catholic old school that is about 100 yrs old. There were escape tunnels from the school going to some parts of the city and even the river because it was used by the Filipinos and American soldiers as barracks during the height of the WW2. So, some of the rooms, even up to this day, that are haunted as you can hear bangings and wailings in the walls, where the tunnels were boarded up, in the middle of the class. One day our entire class decided to play this game since one of our classmates brought a very very old ouija board with the devil's face in it and our teacher was absent. There was no planchet so we used a glass instead. Our classroom was one of these haunted rooms. So the moment we started, the glass filled with smoke and the door and windows of or room banged shut. We all shouted and could not open the door. The teacher from the room next to ours came andl aslo could not open the doors and windows. Eventually, since ours was a Catholic school, the nuns who were the principal and directress came and only then the doors were opened. We were forced to tell what we did and for an hour the parish priest lectured us about the dangers of playing with this board. And so yes, this might be true because we also played this game in high school.

Like we didn't have our hands on the planchet and the cat was dragging it to responses. After we were done the cat left the room and went back to doing cat things. I've seen a lot in life. When I was a kid, I was probably only maybe 9 or 10 years old. I got ahold of a quija board. I found it in a closet at my great grandmother's house of all places. I didn't know what it was at 1st, but somebody told me,and me and my friend Used It. I asked It when I Would die.It pointed to the numbers 32. I was the only one touching it, he didn't want to touch it. The Bad thing is my whole life I was thinking that I was gonna die when I was 32 years old. I've gone past that age, now I wonder maybe if it meant 2032. The bad thing about this is that I probably would have lived my life differently. But I thought I was gonna die at 32. I lived pretty recklessly. It really affected me in a negative way. I think I probably missed out on some good things, relationships, things like that because of it. I think it's shape the way I thought about things in a negative way. Almost like I didn't care. Maybe it messed me up even more than I realize, being that I was so young when it happened. The strangest thing is nobody knows why it was in my grandmother's closet. My grandmother was a very religious person,so it doesn't make any sense. If you're thinking about using one, please don't do it, trust me.

Hi Laura another interesting video. My Grandmother who was born in 1901 in the east end of Glasgow used to say to us never to use them they were very dangerous. In the late 1930s/40s she and her mother and older sister used to attend lots of seances in Glasgow as it was very popular at the time. Said she attended one with that woman clairvoyant from Perth in Scotland who the UK government jailed using witchcraft laws from decades before because she gave information on a Navy ship had sunk before the info had been released to the public. My gran said the woman went into a trance then her mouth opened and white smoke came out into the room forming a female spirit floating in the air. Said they were terrified. Think i would have been out the door in a puff of smoke if i witnessed that.

I had a Ouija board as a kid. My parents bought me one. It was sold in a toy store like most of them were back in the 80s. Don't know about now, but back then they were in toy stores here in the United States. It was mostly collecting cobwebs because I didn't use it much. My late sister & I used it once, both accused the other of moving the planchette. Then a friend & I used it once, but after that it was sold in a yard sale my parents had. But when my sister was alive, we used to live in this house I didn't like at night. It didn't give everybody bad vibes but me. Nothing really happened. There were sounds in the attic, but we also had rodents in the attic too. My father would put mouse traps up there & then carry the hanging rodent with the trap to the trash. At night there would be sounds of a saw going back & forth against a tree, when there weren't anything like that nearby. Freaked me out. But I do think the rodents in the attic caused those sounds by chewing on the wood up there. Also I had a touch lamp, that when you repeatedly touch it, would go from bright to brighter to brightest then off. One night around 2 a.m., I couldn't sleep so I was laying on my back staring at the ceiling. Suddenly a firecracker like flash appeared in the upper right corner of my room, then the touch lamp started operating on its own. I ran down the hall in my late sister's room, got her out of bed quite forcfully and made her look at it. She and I both were scared, and closed the door and hid under the covers and went to sleep. That morning my lil sister got up and was watching tv in the livingroom, I snuck to her bedroom door entry way and stared down the hall to my room at the touch lamp. It stopped operating on its own, and it was on the first light. For some odd reason, it looked as though it was looking back at me. I'll never forget it. But I do think it was electric wire related, not paranormal. Unlike others, I do try to debunk things that can be explainable without the paranormal. As a child though, I used to read many books on ghosts that were said to be nonfiction. And I'd watch scary movies that were said to be based on true incidents. The Entity, The Exorcist & Amityville 1-3 come to mind. Another happening was after I watched one of those, I walked slowly to my bedroom, it was sorta dark, and flipped on the light swich. Do you know how, when you flip on a light switch, and the light bulb dies, it makes a flash then dies? That's what happened, but the eerie thing was that flash had a shape of a skull. I said to myself, "nope." Slept on the floor of my parents bedroom. I COULD just say that that was my imagination right after I saw a scary supposedly true movie, and it was nothing paranormal. But back then I was just scared of everything because I was into parapsychology as a kid, when I don't think kids should really read stuff I read back then, around ages 7-teen years. It interested me big time, but at the same time I jumped at every noise & all that.

Think about it, children are much safer when directly supervised by their adult caregivers when interacting with strangers, but it doesn't make one immune either. I wouldn't personally expose my children to it as the energy around ouija boards becomes increasingly heavier and I wouldn't want to promote the use of one. I used a ouija board as a kid too, middle school aged, and it certainly didn't help me or my friends. No! Entirely different. The witch hunts were created out of superstition, and mass hysteria soon took over, like story telling today, if a story is persisted in, spread abroad, people begin to think that the story is real, that the person involved are as the masses portray them to be, seeing no different. These boards communicate for another, fallen world of evil spirits that want to come over to inhabit human bodies.

It's interesting to think about. I've always hypothesized that the paranormal affects poor and middle class families the most. Rich families can always just move from a haunted house. I wonder what the long-term effects of Ouija board use are? What would the wider economic effects be of mass Ouija board use? To think that the paranormal could have an economic effect on society is fascinating. In Japan for example, abandoned houses or houses where people have died are sold on the market for pennies on the dollar because of the widespread Japanese belief of hauntings. Someone should write a paper on this subject--not me though, I suck at writing papers. You might not be able to prove the existence of the paranormal through audio or video evidence which is fickle but maybe it could be proven or at least revealed through economic numbers.

In those cases the effected person might need a lay or Catholic exorcist to detach the entity. And yet some folks have successfully used the boards for extended periods with no ill effects. I understand there are rules for using the boards. Following them faithfully might help in not having bad experiences.

The main if not only reason why the rich aren’t affected by Ouija boards, is because they have already sold their souls to the devil and are facing far worse after death, so they are left alone during life.

It's a portal but the user is the conduit. We dont know exactly the nature of all physical reality, so given enough reports, i believe these events are real, in a sense having really occured due to alien energy or affect causing a human mind to be "possessed". What are spirits but energy. We dont know if they are conscious but they dont appear to have reasoning power.

More like drugs. I'm latina, I know how authorities in South America are usually the ones that are corrupt and connected to the cartels. Kids take a drug that is laced with something, they die. The school officials have someone that sold it, they protect. Due to the majority of Latinos being immensely Catholic they take the whole Ouiji story. Europe and the US has teens using the ouiji boards and no mass deaths. But we do see mass deaths when there's drugs. It's happened before. In fact, they probably give the drugs for free. These are all countries where cocaine come from and where the cartels come from. They give them the drugs, to get them used and addicted to them from a young age. (Cuban, I know they do that here too in the states). And the Miami incident = hypnosis gone wrong during a time of Satanic panic. It was not a ouiji board and NYT has old articles from 10/26/1979. Mass hysteria was common during that time.

When i was young my friend and I went to another friends house. Another girl was there, may have been the other girls cousin can't remember. Anyway, we played with an ouiji board, never heard of it at the time, and a name was spelled out, Rose. The cousin burst into tears, and said who is messing about, that was cruel. We had no idea what she was talking about, and after a while she demanded to know who was pushing the glass. We all denied it, and asked what is wrong. Apparently a relative had recently died who's name was Rose. We said we had no idea a relative had died, she didnt live in my village, where everyone knew everyone. I went home just after, didnt like this, and never touched a board again.

‘The Exorcist’ was on last night. I remember seeing that when it first played in the UK. A possession occurred not too long after in a neighbouring county. It involved a teenager fiddling with a Ouija board. The unfortunate stabbed himself repeatedly in the back to get the hairy demon off and died on the site of the village cross. The report came through bizarrely from a press office 10,000 miles away.

It never ceases to amaze me how many otherwise rational and sane people have been taken in by the Ouija board mythology. Even the quality of 'evidence' they're prepared to accept falls way below what they'd demand from other myths and legends. One or two dubious anecdotes is often sufficient for them to become believers.

I have tried these multiple times and honestly nothing really happened. 100% of times something did happen it was the other people faking it or having an extreme emotional response. They are fun but that is it, fun. Also seems that pre established fear, hysteria, religion, have the biggest influence on the perception almost like a placebo effect, as friends that were had the biggest emotional response were ones that did not were always fine.

Yep. Ouija boards are literally just toys. Whether you believe in spirits or not, it’s just cardboard. Or wood or plastic. If someone finds it a useful tool, it’s still just that. The board itself is inert. It can’t do anything of its own volition, and people placing blame on it is both ridiculous and harmful.

When i was 11 we got a board. My aunt and brother held the planchete and gave answers to mess with us. Nothing really happened. The nezt day my cousin came over and said he heard if you burned a ouija board that it would scream. So of course i took it out back and set it on fire and nothing happened. After that day our home was never the same. My dad was already in the hospital battling for his life due to kidney failure so it was only me, my little sister and my mom. My older brother didnt live with us so i was the man of the house so to speak. We would hear loud knocks at all hours. Usually in the middle of the night. We'd hear and see shadows walking in our attic which nobody had access to it so there was no way it was a person. We could only see through a hole in the ceiling. The bangs at the back door would wake me up and id go running to answer and nobody was there. I had a little weiner dog named dusty and he would point his tail and start barking at a corner but nobody would be there. It use to freak me out. My mom saw a tall slender guy in the middle of the night at the foot of her bed. It had a really scary vibe to the point i wouldnt even go in the house alone in the day time. We moved away not long after and never experienced that suff again. I learned then that a Ouija Board was no game. It was something that actually opens one up to things that arent of this material world that aren't good. I learned later about the spirit world and how the demonic realm is always looking for an opening to come and torment us if we invite them into our lives. Poor kods, i could only imagine the terror they experienced

Messing with the paranormal is not recommended since they have the power and force needed to physically interact with us and objects. At first they thought they were talking to a movie star who had passed away but that night my mother awoken to a woman figure floating above her that then tried to choke her. The youngest of her brothers, Eric, experianced things floating around his room and some slamming against the wall. She never told me what happened to the eldest and he refused to talk about it. But when his wife bought one he threw it away before they even played it. My uncle Brian said that he felt something trying to take over him that night. My mother refused to ever use one again and refused to let me. After her story i never had the urge to mess with one and in fact would leave the room when my friends tried it.

This type of thing happened in Salem and started the witch-hunt there. The two girls in the Reverend’s house were playing divination games with Tituba, and then began having convulsions, panic attacks, etc. They were diagnosed as bewitched. I think that this shows children are intensely open to suggestion, and due to their sensitive psychological state easily express behavior that demonstrates the expected negative results of using esoteric items/rituals. In other words, the children were pre-programmed to respond this way to esoteric items/rituals because they were taught from very early on that these things were negative and taboo. It’s fulfilling what they were taught.

I find it very interesting that the Ouija Board is sold in the toy area of various stores. I don’t think it will ever be banned, because 1) I’m sure it’s a lucrative thing to sell and 2) some people may consider making it illegal or censored is unconstitutional. Just saying… if you can make a buck on something AND you are a big corporation, chances are that nobody is going to challenge your corner on the market.

There's several things that came to mind while I was watching this vid. Those boards are sometimes people's first experiences with magic, and sometimes there's kind of a reaction you can have after it's usage that can be kind of unpleasant. Fear responses I feel might make that worse do to feedback. If you're in a large group, and you're watching everyone else freak out, it's probably at that point terrifying. I think once they were around people they felt safe with, they could take deep breaths and get a hold of themselves. My first out of body experience was awesome, but the aftermath was awful, because I had a headache the size of Canada for a little while after. I didn't have any in person guides either. Only my spirit guides, which were helpful, but it still was hard on my body. Also I was thinking too that what if the beings who are contacting us are also messing around? What if they are just playing? This might mean less rules and limits on how much power they can use to manefest for example, because they themselves are having fun. I heard somewhere that when you use a board, you are giving the spirits access to some of your energy to use for manipulating it. I don't know if there is any regulation on the flow between them. Maybe it's too much for all those kids and they couldn't handle it.

I love your analyses Laura. I am a paranormal scholar myself in that I spend a lot of time collating information and making a habit of trying to debunk hoaxes and see rationally through supposed paranormal events with a scientific perspective. However, there are 5% of cases that defy all rational explanation and it is these that we must be aware of. People who treat the paranormal as a game are in danger because they do not believe and thus do not adequately protect themselves. Since established science is so unwilling to investigate such phenomena it is left to us to do the research. ❤

I've had a sufficient number of inexplicable events during my life to know that there is far more to this existence than we can possibly comprehend. Things beyond any rational explanation.

@Phil Jones If you can physically experience phenomena, then they can be understood on a physical level, and just because something is inexplicable to you now, that doesn't place it outside the realm of human comprehension. Even if the fundamental nature of a thing eludes you, you can still study it in negative, through interaction. We still have no idea what the hell gravity IS, but we know a ton about how it works.

@@Avelcaine This is a very salient point. We also don’t fully understand magnetism. We can make guesses, describe fields, but what it actually is is indefinable. I have constantly questioned physics professors to describe the essence of both gravity and magnetism. They demonstrate the effects but I don’t need this because I can see this for myself. We don’t even understand quantum field theory. Sure we can model it after a fashion but I find the answers less than compelling.

It sounds more like a case of mass hysteria. Basically, something happens to one person, then everyone starts freaking out and emulating each other’s hysteria. I had this happen twice, once on a bus and once in a theatre. In both situations, one student said they smelled gas and it was making them sick. I never smelled anything in either situation, and the theatre wasn’t hooked up to gas, but soon others were claiming they, too, smelled it. Before long we had to run kids to the hospital only to find out they’d merely succumbed to the suggestion of smelling gas and basically psyched each other into it. Very bizarre and strange I’ve had it happen twice. SoI think the ouija board kids scared themselves silly.

I'm fifty now in the UK. In secondary school in year five, i would have been maybe fifteen at the time, the school would do an outward bounds trip for for our year, which basically entailed a week stay in the lake district doing outdoor activities such as Gill scrambling, fell walking and such. I didn't get to go on the trip for reasons I can't remember but I distinctly recall another class that came back from one of the trips from our year. One of them had to be taken to hospital, and the story went that a group of them did one of these boards for a laugh one night, and one boy had to be held down and subdued by four men, including our PE teacher who was built like a tank. My Mum did it once when she was young and told me that the glass on the table starting spinning then smashed against a wall. She never did it again. There are things we don't fully understand, and unless you want to become close friends with "Captain Howdy", I would suggest you stay the hell away from this stuff. Not religious, just heard terrible things from such activities. Whoever thought it was a good idea to create a board game around this stuff beggars belief, but here we are.

The board is like a port hole , we used 1 in a spot we shouldn't have . We left and we happened to look back from where we had left and what looked to be a person walked out , we yelled and waved it just turned and started walking towards us , we where in a group of 5 and we all saw it. But we noticed it was solid black like a shadow but it was early maybe a little past noon during summer. So we kept walking and we went to the church it was closed but we sat on the steps , then the bell began to ring nobody was there closed so the town could hear it. So we walked the 3 girls home now me and my friend went to my house I wouldn't bring it in my house because my house was very old and haunted already so u just don't bother. Well that night we stayed out in my parents camper we had for when we go to the lake or if we had anything where somebody needed a place to sleep well that night the camper got shook so bad I thought it would tip over we grabbed bat's we kept bat's for playing plus just if you need while camping we went outside nothing this happen all night next morning we got up and where we hid the board we found busted into broken pieces and the board game front was ripped off all but one word and it was the only word we got in the place we saw the shadow person walk out from.

I once use to give readings which I did for free. I didn't know any better when someone ask me to use their board with them them one time. It was the last time. I cannot believe that children are allowed to buy them at all anywhere. Adults can make their own decisions. Nor, will I ever take part in a seance again. Getting an attachment or worse is just two huge of a danger by summoning up the dead. Most of the time it's not the dead at all.

From my understanding of the occult, the witch board opens a door to the lower astral where dead shells exist. These are not the actual souls of the humans anymore but the decaying astral body that has been shrugged off after death, and as the flesh rots, so does this shell. The actual "soul" is either asleep or moved on to another realm (in the case of suicides and murderers it can get more complicated). The astral shell is imprinted with memories of the past life, and generally knows no more in death. Contacting these entities is not a good idea, no more than digging up a grave is a good idea. Just leave them alone and they will eventually dissipate as they should. MOST of the time using a ouija isn't going to result in anything wild, just as MOST of the time when you leave your front door open, a wild animal or crazy person won't wander inside. Until they do wander inside. And that's what you're doing with the witch board. You are messing with something most people don't understand whatsoever, and because it is generally harmless MOST of the time, or does nothing, it is easily disregarded. Until it's not harmless, but then it's too late. And it is not just the astral shells in the astral; you have elementals and other entities that were never human beings at all, and some of them like to masquerade as humans for the sheer joy of causing havoc. This is all a very detailed spiritual science, and like any science experiment, if you start mixing chemicals without knowing what you're doing you run the risk of getting injured. Same thing here. There are laws at work behind the scenes, and if you don't know the laws, don't play the game, don't mess with the dead, and don't disregard something you don't understand or believe in as utter bullshit just because you think you have the world figured out. You don't.

This also happened in a northern province of the Philippines a few years ago. Some elementary kids were playing with spirit of the glass, a poor man 's version of a Ouija board. Kids would write down the letters and numbers on a bond paper then use a small transparent glass instead of a planchette. Then they would burn some paper and trap the smoke inside the glass then pray our father as a sort of protection spell before proceeding with the seance. Sometimes they'd use a big coin if they can't find a small glass. Anyway, after they played spirit of the glass, their whole class was supposedly mass possessed by demons which lasted for a few hours.
