I absolutely love watching your videos. Years ago, I was completely against religion and would bash Christian ideology with many of the same objections as the students you debate with. Your videos caused me to realize that there is complete logic and rationale in a god, and the reliability of Jesus Christ, and "morality" issues I had. You caused me to give a serious second look into the subject. I had to do the homework, and approach the subject objectively. Now as a believer in Christ, I thank you. I was wondering about the lack of videos lately, but I heard you mention the loss of your mother. I am truly sorry for your loss, and you have my condolences. May God bring you comfort, and may you continue to fight the good fight. Take care.

Very sorry to hear about your mother Cliffe. And I felt that banana at the start was being VERY disrespectful towards that. It was clear he was flying high on something and he's allowed to try to prove his point no matter how obnoxious he's being, but using that particular example was incredibly disrespectful. God Bless you Cliffe.
@JohnCashin8 жыл бұрын
Under normal circumstances I would agree with you, of course it would seem rather disrespectful after someone has just said that they have lost their mother to then come up with this but the thing is, this man knows what Cliffe believes, Cliffe believes his mother is alive in Heaven, correct?, so, as far as Cliffe is concerned, there's nothing to mourn about, he believes his mother is still alive and well on some other plain of existence and if there is nothing to mourn, then what this man said wouldn't be at all disrespectful to Cliffe, no more than if his mother was still physically alive. I lost my own mother 23 years ago but I am currently a non-believer, oh sure I would love to believe in the things Cliffe does, of course I would love to believe it but the fact is that I am not convinced that my mother has been existing in some other dimension for the last 23 years, as far as the evidence presented to me goes, my mother just doesn't exist anymore, the same goes for anyone who has died, I have no reason to believe they are anything other than no more. Now, if I am wrong, if my mother does still exist on some other level, then of course I would hope she is in the best place, not that I believe what the Bible says, I question what it says but according to the aforementioned Bible, my mother probably won't be in Heaven, she will be in that other much hotter place because she didn't become a "Born Again Christian" which as I understand, is a requirement in order to get into Heaven, although there seems to be some debate among believers about this. Presuming everything in the Gospel is true and Jesus really was/is the son of God, he didn't make all the specifics clear, he painted some very broad strokes in his sermons if you know what I mean and unfortunately it's not helpful in a world that is far more complicated than "the rich man and the poor man"....blah blah blah. The reality is that most people are neither rich nor poor, for some I might be "rich", even though I don't have as much as someone who is truly rich, I live in a flat, pay rent, earn the national minimum wage and have something to eat everyday although it's not the best food on Earth, someone who is a millionaire, multi-millionaire, billionaire would look down on me as poor because I don't own my own house and have to buy everything as cheap as possible, so for one I am like that poor man in the Bible and for another I am like that rich man in the Bible, so where do I go when I die because of that?, perhaps there's a place for people who are inbetween? Lol. Sorry, I'm not trying to mock, I'm just trying to make a point here, things are far too complicated to go by what the Bible says, even back in those days, I doubt if life was all that simple but it definitely isn't today, I need much better answers than the Bible offers and so do many other people, the only way to get better answers from the Bible is to reinterpret it, which I guess is what many Christians do, the problem with that is not all Christians will reinterpret it in the same way, that's why there are so many different Christian Denominations and God (presuming he is there) doesn't want to come down and clarify matters, he seems quite happy to stay hidden and let the confusion continue, have to ask myself what kind of a God would do that?
@PaulRizzo8 жыл бұрын
John Cashin First off, very sorry to hear about your mother. Even though 23 years is a long time, I'm sure it still hurts and sucks. Second, regardless of where Cliffe thinks his mum is, I highly doubt he's not mourning. Thirdly, I'm not sure how much of Cliffe's stuff you've seen but I've been listening to him for over 10 years and he's rationally addressed pretty much everything you've taken issue with. Personally, in my life I've experienced more than enough that makes me believe God and Jesus are exactly who they say they are.
@JohnCashin8 жыл бұрын
Paul Rizzo Yes, he has certainly addressed all of these points, I'll give you that because many of the people he speaks to often bring these same points up too, I would put a question mark over the "rationally" bit though, he's addressed the points as best as he is able to using both the Bible, Philosophy and his own ability to present a case for a position but I'm afraid I am far from satisfied with his answers, one of his favorite arguments is to say "heyyy.....if there is no God then all life is ultimate meaningless, there's no right or wrong, you can just do what you like, so why don't you live that out my Atheist friend?". The two big problems with that argument is that firstly, it doesn't prove there must be a God, this just tells us that if there is no God then everything is ultimately pointless....uh....yeah, that's right, so perhaps everything is ultimately pointless, as for living this out, just because everything might be ultimately meaningless, that doesn't mean that we can't give value to things while we are in the here and now, the clothes we wear will one day be old torn, useless shreds, the place we live in will one day be a pile of rubble, doesn't mean they are not useful now, so you can still give meaning to life in the here and now without having to have some ultimate purpose, it's not an argument that gives me any reason to change my position of doubt. I'm not looking for reasons why not believing in God is a bad thing, whether believing in something is a good thing or a bad thing is irrelevant to whether or not it's actually true, I am looking for rational justification for believing in God's existence, not a reason why believing in God would make me happier than not believing in God, I'm sure it would make me "happier" but maybe only in the way an alcoholic is "happy" when he or she is drunk or the way a drug addict is "happy" when they've had their fix, sure, there are many things that can make someone "happy" in that sense, I'm not looking for just something to make me happy or give me a sense of ultimate purpose, even though that would be great, I'm looking for the best grip on reality I can get, I want to believe in as many true things as possible and stop believing in as many false things as possible, now that might mean having to sacrifice a few comforting delusions but I am willing to pay that price rather than be deluded.
@bonnie43uk8 жыл бұрын
I always enjoy reading your posts John, I think we both see things from pretty much the same angle. Cliffe was talking about freedom of choice and our ability to have that free choice ( or free will as he sometimes puts it). When it comes to religion, the vast majority of people on the planet aren't truly given a free choice to choose which particular God ( or religion) to believe in, it's given to us by our parents and is dependent on certain things such as the region of the globe we happen to be born in, the faith of our parents.. once you are immersed into that particular faith from birth it plays a significant part in the person you will become as an adult. Of course, later in life we can choose to follow a different faith, but the odds of you remaining in the faith you were raised in are very high. Especially if you happen to be born in a highly Islamic region of the globe such as Saudi Arabia, or Pakistan, I think these countries are about 99% Islamic. They also have the disadvantage of being actively discouraged to seek other faiths due to the apostasy law which forbids them from leaving, sometimes with a threat of death or other forms of severe punishment. It does beg the question why the Christian God would allow billions of his creation to be born into other extreme faiths which even forbid it's followers from the 'free will' choice of accepting Christ as their savior. Whenever I've questioned Christians about this fact in the past I'm told it's a 'genetic fallacy' but it's not... if you happen to be born in a strict Islamic country, the odds of you remaining in the faith of your birth is incredibly high. They do not have the freedom to choose Christianity or Hinduism or many other faiths. I'm fairly certain that if my parents just happened to be strict Muslims in Pakistan.. i would also be a strict Muslim now.
@JohnCashin8 жыл бұрын
bonnie43uk Yes, well said, I totally agree with you too, if this God exists at all, then in order to be truly fair, he would need to take all of these social background factors that all the billions of different people on Earth have into consideration, because if he will just come back and judge us on simple "who accepts Jesus and who doesn't accept Jesus" terms, then his whole "God of justice" title goes right out the window, that's not justice, not unless he calls that kind of 17th Century Witch Hunter General standard of judging someone "justice", then, of course he can call himself a "God of justice", if someone makes up their own standard of anything then they can be that anything but ultimately speaking, this God would not be a God of justice if he didn't take all of these things into consideration before judging someone. Presuming this God is real and he sent his son Jesus (who is....uh...himself anyway...that's another matter) to help and save the world and someone rejects his Jesus, then what an intelligent being would do is look at why they are rejecting Jesus and remedy it, eg, is it because they have been brought up with a different concept that makes it harder for them to accept this one than it would be for others with a different background? (as you said) or is it because they have not been given the same level of evidence that those other who believe have been given? (like us), he could easily remedy the above by providing a lot more evidence. the above are the things that a truly intelligent, reasonable being would look at and take action on. The God of the Bible seems to be none of that, the God of the Bible is "right....you didn't believe in Jesus....in the fire you go", would there be even any kind of appeal system he could put in place for people whom this God has decided should be thrown in the lake of fire?, seems not, it's a case of "I God say you should go into the fire and I never make a mistake (actually according to that same Bible, God does make mistakes) so in the fire you go...end of, that's not justice, that's oppression, this God sounds like a dictator to me, not a loving God. Also, here's a really important one, nowhere in the Bible does it explain how God will deal with the mentally handicapped?, if someone is so severely mentally challenged to a point where they won't be able to understand any kind of a concept, how could they be expected to accept Jesus? and if they don't will this God throw them into Hell forever?, if the character of this God of the Bible is anything to go by, yes, he would...."I don't care if you are suffering from severe autism...that's no excuse for not obeying me....in the fire you go with all the others who rejected my great provision".....blah blah blah. Actually, whether mentally capable or not, good, bad or indifferent, nobody really deserves to burn for eternity, that has got to be the sickest punishment idea going, I mean, yes, I'm sure we can all think of people that we would like to see burn for a while, maybe even for a long while but I couldn't bear the thought of even my worst enemy burning forever and ever because I am a compassionate human being, far more compassionate than this God of the Bible it seems, torturing someone for ever and ever would be infinitely disproportionate to their crimes, plus, it shouldn't even be necessary, this God would have the power to simply wipe people out forever, which would be far more merciful, so if he chooses to torture people in this so called Hell forever and ever, that smacks of sadism to me as well as dictatorialism in this God.

From what learned it’s called “Sheol” also known as the realm of the dead. Before Christ came there were two different areas or places within Sheol. The side good people went to was called Abrahams Bosom a place that still had Gods presence. The side that evil and bad people went to was called hades which is absent of God and all of the gifts we were given from God. When Christ died on the cross he descended in to Sheol (I think he even went to both sides that if anyone would believe in and follow him he would take them to heaven) that’s where we get a list about those who are in heaven before Christ came I’m sure there are even more than the list alone. So when non believers and evil people die now I believe that they still go to Sheol until Judgement day while believers go to heaven to be with Christ. On judgement day all those in Sheol will be judged along with Satan and those who choose to be separated from God will go to hell Satan will be thrown into the lake of fire.

The reason we desire an eternal life is because our innermost self is the spirit self which has eternal nature.1Cor.3:16 Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst❓
@moonalisa3922 жыл бұрын
• Good or evil in the conduct of the physical self is the main determinant of whether the spirit self becomes good or evil. • In our everyday experience, our mind rejoices when our physical self performs good deeds but feels anxiety after evil conduct. This is because vitality elements, which can be good or evil according to the deeds of the physical self, are infused into our spirit self. 💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞 • Our spirit self, or spirit, is a substantial yet incorporeal reality • apprehended only through the spiritual senses. • Our spirit can communicate directly with God . •In appearance our spirit self matches our physical self. After we shed the physical self, we enter the spirit world and live there for eternity. • The reason we desire an eternal life is because our innermost self is the spirit self which has an eternal nature. 💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞 . Our spirit self consists of the dual characteristics of spirit mind and spirit body. • The spirit mind is the center of the spirit self, and it is where God dwells. • The spirit grows through give and take action between the two types of nourishment: life elements of a yang type from God, and vitality elements of a yin type from the physical self. 💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞 •The spirit can grow only while it abides in the flesh. Thus , the relationship between the physical self and the spirit self is similar to that between a tree and its fruit. 💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞 •The Spirit self can attain perfection only during a perso's earthly life. •The Spirit mind guides the spirit self as it grows in the soil of the physical self . 💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞 • When a person reaches perfection and is totally immersed in the love of God while on earth can he fully delight in the love of God as a spirit after his death. 💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞 All the qualities of the spirit self are developed while it abides in the physical self: Sinful conduct during earthly life aggravates evil and ugliness in the spirit of a fallen person, while the redemption of sins granted during earthly life opens the way for his spirit to become good. • This was the reason Jesus had to come to the earth in the flesh to save sinful humanity. We must lead a good life while we are on the earth. •In Matthew 16:19, Jesus gave the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven to Peter, who remained on the earth, and in Matthew 18:18, he said, "whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven," because the primary objective of the providence of restoration must be carried out on earth. 💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞 It is NOT God who decides whether a person's spirit enter heaven or hell upon his death , it is decided by the spirit himself. Those who committed sinful deeds while on earth become crippled spirits who are incapable of fully breathing in the love of God. They find it agonizing to stand before God, the center of true love, and choose to dwell in hell of their own will. • Since the human spirit can grow only in the soil of the physical self, the multiplication of human spirits takes place at the same time that the multiplication of physical selves occurs: during earthly life. RSMM, 💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞

If tomorrow someone claimed to be Jesus(like many have done so) i wouldn't be bothered by it. If I hung out with him for a few weeks and he tells me that he is going to die and rise from the dead(and I physically see this) then I would listen very carefully to what this man has to say. I would like to think you would too. I would also follow to see how he lives what he teaches ect... What do you think?
@bonnie43uk8 жыл бұрын
Alangiuroiu You make some good points Alan. Of course this is all hypothetical, it's something I ponder occasionally, my point was more about if he came back, he would surely have to convince people in far off continents, I'm sure they'd have every right to be more than a little skeptical. Or would you take the word from someone who heard it from someone else, and he had heard it from someone else etc.? I think it's fair to say most of us can be fooled by a top illusionist, I'm a big fan of Derren Brown ( plenty of his stuff on youtube if you've not heard of him), but he openly admits the things he does are not real magic ( as in supernatural), yet if he did claim they were real, i would seriously have to doubt my skepticism and reconsider if there truly was a supernatural realm. I do not believe the claims of Jesus dying and rising, as i see it, they are exactly that... claims, and nothing more, particularly as these claims come from over 2000 years ago from a very small group of people. People have a propensity to believe things without hard evidence, a good example would be Joseph Smith's claim to have had an encounter with an angel called Moroni, who gave him some golden plates which Smith then secretly buried. This encounter some 200 years ago began the seeds of the Mormon religion, they now have millions of people all over the world believing this stuff. Say something with enough conviction, and people will believe it. You are free to believe in Christianity, but personally, I'm not convinced.

I see your points and yes i agree somewhat. Look at Islam ... 1.7 Billion Followers!!!! ? 1 man in a cave and an angel NO EYE WITNESSES and its the fastest growing religion!? Part of it is faith coupled with Evidence at least enough evidence to say Jesus is reliable and dealt with questions i struggle with. LIFE/ SIN /DEATH. I have a hope that better days a coming after death. You say your not convinced but Jesus teaches that everyone knows that God exists,Humans just suppress the truth. If you read Romans it explains it pretty well. God will punish Evil at the end of the day. Are you ready? Are your sins paid for? Have you broken any of the 10 Commandments?

Alangiuroiu I've no doubt that evidence that Jesus died and rose from the dead is more than adequate for a believer such as yourself Alan. It's obviously the cornerstone of your faith. It's a little harder though to convince a skeptic such as myself that all these biblical events occurred, outside of the New Testament there is scant evidence for Jesus, yet according to the gospels here was a man known throughout Judea. I certainly don't think I know God exists and I'm somehow suppressing the 'truth'.. why should I believe what is written in Romans? You mention that God will punish evil at the end of the day, well, that is another problem I have with Christianity, in that, as i understand it, according to Christian doctrine, it doesn't matter if you commit evil acts in your life, because if you repent of your sins, and are sincere, Jesus will accept you into heaven. But for my honest disbelief, I am damned to eternity even though I haven't committed any evil acts, I've not raped, killed or tortured anyone in my life, but someone who *has* done those kind of evil deeds, if he sincerely repents, he gets eternal heaven, and for my doubt and rejection of Christ, it's me who gets eternal damnation. Any wrongdoings I commit in my life, it's down to me to take responsibility for my crimes, I don't agree with the concept of Jesus taking my sins, that is my burden and mine alone, if I wrong someone, it's me who has to ask the person I've wronged for forgiveness. We will all make mistakes in our lives, and I believe accepting those wrongdoings and paying any consequences makes us better people, we all screw up, that's part of life, we hopefully learn from our mistakes. I would not feel totally happy if another person took the heat for something I'd done. Doesn't that seem like the right thing to do in life rather than let someone else take your wrongdoings? You mentioned the 10 commandments, very few of those commandments refer to wrongdoings, half of them are about worshiping God. It says nothing about rape, child abuse, slavery and other bad things, and it says little about how we should treat one another as people. I'm sure people around the world already knew it was wrong to murder and steal before it was written in the old testament. As regards lying, there are plenty of examples where lying could be seen as the correct and moral thing to do in a given scenario.

Alangiuroiu Hi Alan, your last 2 comments were removed from the comment section so unfortunately I cannot see them, I think Cliffe has a block on comments that contain links ( i think it's a simple spam filter), in the past I've tried to put in links to add to my comments and they get removed. If you'd like me to view a certain video instead of including the link, just write the name of the video as it appears on KZbin, and i should be able to find it.

Question raised in video #6. Do good people go to heaven when they die? “All who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth” (John 5:28, 29). “David … is both dead and buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. … For David did not ascend into the heavens” (Acts 2:29, 34). “If I wait, the grave is mine house” (Job 17:13 KJV). Answer: No. People do not go to heaven or to hell at death. They don’t go anywhere-but they wait in their graves for the resurrection.
