Program 1821 ................... - Miracles - Historicity of Jesus - Following Jesus
The "Give Me An Answer" ministry began as an outgrowth of the dialogues Cliffe Knechtle has had with students on various university campuses throughout the United States. These universities include the University of Maine, Harvard, MIT, University of Florida, University of Texas, University of Wisconsin, University of Minnesota, University of California Los Angeles, University of California San Diego, Berkeley, Stanford, University of Hawaii and the University of Washington. Cliffe spoke on these campuses in front of the Student Union or Library at noon for five to ten minutes. At the close of his initial remarks, he'd open up the time for questions and answers, which usually turned into a two to four hour dialogue with students. His crowd size ranged from 25 - 500 students at a time, and between classes, new students would join the discussion. This is an extremely effective way to reach a large number of university students with the Gospel of Christ.

As good at this as Cliff is, I think he would be even better if he used the OT prophecies of Jesus and included that as evidence in these contexts. There are over 300 of them and some of them are just spectacularly specific and detailed and really hard to dismiss.

Why follow a 2000 year old book? Suppose it were written this morning, by a team of the wisest people on earth, and contained no teaching dependent on a particular time, culture or technology for its truth. It spoke for itself as superlative wisdom and revealed divine truth. Would you follow it? How about tomorrow? Next week? Next year? How many years would it take before timeless truth and wisdom were no longer timely? Timeless truth is, by definition, timeless.

The bible is a book of claims, not a book of truth, from god created to god died and rose again is all unevidenced BS, there has never been and never will be one that can prove or disprove that such claimed entities of gods exist, gods by all known evidence are the creations of men, that's ALL GOD's. That a human being any human being , call him jesus, or what you will no human being after being killed can return to life, creation , resurrection as stated in the bible, made up of many stories, most written by no one knows whom, and that includes the supposed gospel testemants, are claims without any sourced, verified, corroborated by any known to have existed persons by that same criteria, of factual historical evidence of anything but man made fairy stories, a book cannot prove itself when without known authors, and the bible has none that ever actually evidenced any god and that includes the supposed Jesus. The only ones that believe such BS are the indoctrinated from birth and groomed throughout their formative years, the ultra gullible, the absolute desperate that cannot cope with the realities of actual life, Christians are no different from one addicted to smoking, drugs, alcohol, they are in the capture of the mind benders,

👏🏼well put, when will people understand that God shows us time means nothing to him. It takes us 542 million “light years”(a speed in which humans cannot travel at)to get to Jupiter when will we understand that time means absolutely nothing. Like you said what is the difference if it was written 2,000 years ago or today.

I really enjoyed the genuine demeanor, intellectual honesty and consistency of the first guy. The goal of apologetics is not to convert you on the spot using fancy words, it's to get you to give a genuine look by appealing to your mind, God does the rest. All you have to do is give it a genuine look, God Himself will show you. But He actively hides the truth from those who are not genuine, which is why they live all their lives questioning but never getting answers and end up being frustrated hyper skeptics. 'The gospel is foolishness to those who are perishing.' The second guy however, seemed to be in atheist kindergatten. Where the narrativeis everyone who is religious is just an idiot who can't think for themselves. Where they have never really met an apologist . The last guy, was a treat for the mind. We had very similar objections before i came to Christ.

@@childofthelivinggod. Its pretty common knowledge within theologans to be honest. The old testament is written before Christ in the Israeli bronze and iron age. Many by the hand of Moses who lived about 1200 years BC. The new testament written mostly by Luke and Paul within 60 years of Jesus. Job is argued to possibly be the oldest biblical cannon but much of the exact timing is up for debate. Some think maybe it was written by Abraham. This is all why the dead sea scrolls were such a big deal. Biblical scripture dating back to the capturing by the babylonians. Proving the words had been preserved and illustrating prophetic verses that at the time had yet come to pass. People asked for a source material that dated before the events of proclaimed prophecy. @@childofthelivinggod. If you really want things to make literal sense, brush up on bronze age and iron age symbolism. Knowing how the people of that era lived and viewed the world can truly help with the imagery they are trying to portrait through words in The Bible. This is important for much of the OT because its the life they lived, and much of the idioms are tough to compare to how the words are used in a modern sense. If youve ever learned a second language, you might know how it feels to have a word not carry the same weight or context into a different cultures use of that same word. Just a thought God Bless.

Yeah. He does. In the words in Scripture, "but the man tried to justify himself...." Cliffe doesn't usually ask this (though I hear other apologists ask it), one question that should be put to that student would have been "ethical according to whom?" Who defines your ethics? What is its source? It can only come form one of 3 possible sources: the individual (yourself), society or a elite group within a society, or a God. After helping Cliffe at UT for over 20 years, one thing that keeps recurring over and over and over again is the similarity in the dialogue and eerily, the similar way people 2000 years ago thought compared to today. 8-/

What if he based his ethics on all the world religions, and then, on at basis, thinks he is ethical? Maybe he uses a combination of religion, societal agreement, and gut feeling. Can pagans or atheists not be ethical? There is a Sumerian Code that has commandments against murder, robbery, etc. it’s older than the Ten Commandments. Perhaps this could be the basis of ethics or morals?

Using Bible verses to convince others that God/Jesus is real is just as useful as using characters names from their own books to claim they're real, like Harry Potter, or better yet Pinocchio, cuz he said he's a real boy in his book. Your heart is in a good place, but that is not a valid reason to others, let alone people who believe the Bible is just made up and miss translated throughout the years and thus unreliable, to them. So no, reading verses to them does absolutely nothing. Which is why you got to give them some sort of historical proof outside of the Bible

So when the Bible uses the "boring parts" naming kings, and their sons, and government heads, ect and talking about how there's scriptures preserved and everything else and prove it. Cuz everything they believe is from out side of the Bible. The whole "it doesn't mean gay in the Bible its a miss translation and means child, shall not lay with child" and they believe the it has been miss translated to suit the "Christian liking" so having historical proof, cuz they're never talked about, using the Bible will do absolutely nothing to those individuals if used first.

The other equally important task to determine whether Jesus really lived, died, was resurrected, and was in fact the living embodiment of God Himself is to ask Jesus Himself if he can show you the Truth of these matters and direct you by way of the Holy Spirit, this wonderful counsellor He told us he would leave with us to minister to us in all the ways of God and His intent for us. It is by giving our lives to Jesus, accepting Him as our Lord and Saviour, and asking the Holy Spirit to minister to us that we get the understanding we need which 'surpasses all understanding' by which we used to 'know' in the secular way. The darkness can't understand the light. This isn't a put down to people who don't know God, but it means that the understanding of the Truth (Jesus) can't be known by the darkness (those who don't know Him, and refuse to seek). Ask, and it will be given. Knock, and He will answer you. You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free).

A common excuse/apologetic tactic is saying that the OT only condones "Indentured Servitude." This is VERY wrong!!! The definition of Indentured Servitude is: "Indentured servants were not paid wages but they were generally housed, clothed, and fed. The rights to the individual's labor could be bought and sold, but the servants themselves were not considered property and were free upon the end of their indenture (usually a period of five to seven years)." *note: Indentured Servitude does not involve a person being considered as "peoperty"... Now, contrast THAT definition with the following verses: Exodus 21:20-21 says, “Anyone who beats their male or female slave with a rod must be punished if the slave dies as a direct result, but they are not to be punished if the slave recovers after a day or two, since the slave is their PROPERTY.” Eek! Does that HONESTY sound like warm and fuzzy, harmless "Indentured Servitude" to you? God, I hope not. But, again, it's okay and expected for an ancient book to have some barbaric practices compared to our modern standards. So, I just think it would be nice if Christians educated themselves on the atrocities, as well as the niceties, and simply owned it and admitted it was man's thinking of the past and was wrong 🤔 Some additional verses: Exodus 21:2-6 When you buy a Hebrew slave, he shall serve six years, and in the seventh he shall go out free, for nothing. If he comes in single, he shall go out single; if he comes in married, then his wife shall go out with him. If his master gives him a wife and she bears him sons or daughters, the wife and her children shall be her master's, and he shall go out alone. But if the slave plainly says, ‘I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free,’ then his master shall bring him to God, and he shall bring him to the door or the doorpost. And his master shall bore his ear through with an awl, and he shall be his slave forever. (Yikes! This is HORRIBLE). And... Deuteronomy 20:14 But the women and the little ones, the livestock, and everything else in the city, all its spoil, you shall take as plunder for yourselves. And you shall enjoy the spoil of your enemies, which the Lord your God has given you (this is hideous! Barbaric TO THE MAX).

Gregory, with all due respect, you are incorrect. If you study the Bible you will see that Jesus fulfilled numerous prophecies, prophecies that were written hundreds of years before He was born (especially noteworthy is Isaiah chapter 53, allegedly written some 700 years before Christ's birth). On top of that, the Bible tells of historical facts and people that can be traced back through archeology (look up "Mount Sinai" and "The Split Rock" to see how events in the Old Testament still carry evidence today, most prominent work was by Ron Wyatt) and through historical accounts (e.g. Josephus and Tacitus among others). And finally, you cannot deny the radical transformation that happens in people's lives when they meet Christ through the Holy Spirit. Miracles still happen today, but you gotta look for them. The most miraculous thing that happens is that the Gospel has the power to transform a human heart, in a way that he receives a heart of flesh, a heart of love and humility, where before that he had a heart of stone, self-centered and carnal. If you're brave enough, you can look up deliverance videos where evil spirits are cast out of people (you can say they're acting, but having gone through deliverance myself I can attest to it being 100% real). I recommend Isaiah Saldivar's content, for example this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bJ3SpX2Lqbl5pas If you want to encounter the living God, you first need to humble yourself and say "I don't know, but I want to know" and seek Him with your whole heart. He promised to reveal Himself to those that seek Him (Jeremiah 29:13: You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. ) God bless.

Some years it's moral ambiguity and other years it's topic X. Just a few years ago at Texas State, it was weird....almost every other question was about homosexuality. So topics come and go, but amazingly, no matter which University and which year, the topics generally stay the same within a very small range. That's why I would imagine Cliffe wrote his first book "Give Me An Answer" because he kept seeing the same questions over and over and over again.

I think a more appropriate question would be "Why do Christians worship Jesus when he was not God, Worship ONLY God." Jesus was not a carpenter, that word didnt even exist in his time, tell me he made tables all you want, that would make him a wood craftsman, not a carpenter, we carpenters build structures. Jesus and his father Joseph were described as Tektons, which is a Greek word for builder, in a time, place and culture when all structures were built from stone. He was a stone mason. Why was Greek word used to describe Jesus and Joesph is also a better question but the answer is simple, he was Greek.

Exactly. Religion is fantasy because religion is man trying to find God. Christianity is God trying to find man. We read this in Act 17 when Luke wrote, "Paul then stood up in the meeting of the Areopagus and said: “People of Athens! I see that in every way you are very religious. I'm pretty sure that Cliffe's answers wouldn't convince a non believer, as the student says, most scientists wouldn't come to the conclusion. We have much more solid answers to questions which people living thousands of years ago were wrong about. It turns out we're not the centre of the Universe... far from it. We are a tiny speck in the big scheme of things. Always enjoy seeing a new video from Cliffe, even if this one is from the archives.. The God debate will be around for many many years. @@michaelk7348 Yes, the human mind struggles to comprehend the vastness of the universe, there is little doubt about that, when we look into the night sky, our eyes are only capable of seeing a few thousand stars.. the more we've learned about how big the cosmos is it's very hard for us to get our heads around it. There is a very famous picture called "deep field" it was taken by the Hubble space telescope a few decades ago when astronomers pointed the telescope at a tiny patch of seemingly nothing in space.. there didn't appear to be anything there, many astronomers thought it would be a waste of time using Hubble's resources to look at nothing. When the images came back, it was stunning to see thousands upon thousands of far-off galaxies, and each one of these galaxies contained hundreds of millions of stars. We're slowly learning more about our place in the universe. In real terms, we're probably scrambling on the lower slopes of a huge mountain, we are nowhere near the summit. We know much more than people living in Biblical times, but, by the same token, people living in the future will know much more than us. You say our planet is small and wondrously designed Michael, if you were around a few billion years ago on this planet it was a completely different place that would have been totally hostile to human life. It's taken billions of years of evolution to get to this point.. and even now, much of the planet is hostile to human life. Maybe we're looking at the same planet completely differently. I see no evidence of design as such. We share this planet with millions of other life forms, many of which are deadly to mankind as we are deadly to them. @@chesterparsnip hmmm…. It’s clear you haven’t done the homework and you don’t know Jesus. There is intellectual knowledge, and personal knowledge. I have both, and Jesus is anything but snake oil. He is God, and, even better, He IS good. The only thing you have to lose is your brokenness and fear of death.

@@aaronwarner5492 Plenty as I appear to know more than you do, I know Jesus is fictional as is your god. Remember man made god not god made man. There's not one thing you can do to prove the existence of your mythical friend.
