“Feeling the power of God” is a dangerous declaration. Going by feelings has often led me down the wrong way. Also, as a married couple for 43 years, we discuss major financial decisions!

Listening to this makes me so grateful for my “boring” church. Understanding the sufficiency of God’s plan of salvation and growing in understanding God’s word revealed in the Bible! I am a new listener and find your discussion of your growth as Christians interesting. I want to grow closer to God but it is costly…..God wants all of me, no strings attached.

Such a great thorough discussion of giving, using scripture properly. Thank you.

Camp meetings always had a lot of auction offerings because they needed to fund the campground.

The gift of forgiveness of sin, the payment of the penalty of my sin and restoration of the intended relationship God created for me with Him, the hope that we as Christians look forward to…..no longer snagged by my sinful nature. This is the Gospel we can share we confidence. It is initiated by God, made possible by Jesus, and maintained by the Holy Spirit. I constantly have to remind myself of these things ….. reading God’s Word always affirms it.

I remember the church I attended as a child had Malachai 3:10 printed on the tithe envelopes. Also another church I attended for years had this disclaimer on the annual contribution statement : “Any benefits received are solely spiritual”.

another great episode thank you! It is dangerous territory to enter into when one feels entitled to the blessings of God. I am not entitled to God’s blessings or to money or financial success. If He chooses to bless me with that, that’s great but I certainly do not expect it and do not demand it of Him.

Right! Then they want to take credit that belongs to God. “You got that job because you were faithful here”, etc.

This was a very well thought out and informative video! Great job Justin and Tiffany! The notion of "give to get" that the UPCI and scores of other church organizations espouse to also promotes COVETOUSNESS in the believer. Jesus told us in Mark 7 that covetousness is in the heart of man and that it defiles us. We as believers must know the baseness of our nature and lean on the Holy Spirit every day to help us to overcome what desires we are prone to act upon. We have all been l tempted to "roll the dice" in life hoping to come out the winner. That is one reason why it is easy to deceive a congregation because they are putting a so-called Biblical stamp of approval on what our sinful selves would like to have happen. I know I am truly blessed that God shook my life so my eyes would be opened to the heresy I was part of for so many years. My prayer is that all would come to the knowledge of the truth, so they don't end up in the wrong place for eternity.

Our church read a very similar declaration every time we gave. Our church even added more to it than these, but we would yell it out at every single service.

I was chastised from pulpit for giving too much. He talked down saying “you don’t give to get” without saying my name. Pastor I grew up with was always contradicting himself. He also asked me to take a position and then put me down for taking it saying I was an “opportunist”. Talk about a bad combo- he is a narcissist with bad ocd.

They never talk about giving to the poor or those in need. Always to them. Didn't Jesus say if you do to your neighbors you have done unto me.( paraphrasing)

This is in many denominations now. Teach the Word, not mans word.
