It is so strange to see someone going through the same things as us. Berners aren't popular here in South Africa so NO ONE understands. They are the best dogs out there. My girl behaves in the same manner, it is so awesome. Just love them to death. Keep up the good work. Awesome videos.

I had no idea how amazing Berners are til my family adopted a male puppy from Hungary 🇭🇺. This was back during the early millennium. I was on several waiting lists with an average wait time of almost two years. No one knew about them. We were told by our vet who also had a Berner baby they were almost extinct in USA and at the time, almost all breeding stock was from Europe. We were also told that at that time (not sure if true anymore) that the Berners from Europe tended to live healthier and longer lives because they were bred smaller there. Although, our male topped out at a nice, trim,, 100lbs according to our vet. His male Berner, bred here. Topped out at 124 lbs. We were blessed he lived 10 years ...no health problems til very end of his life. He had a fast-growing stomach cancer typically not seen in this breed and sadly we had to put him to sleep. The only reason I knew something was seriously wrong was because he lost his appetite. He had a clean bill of health just nine weeks before. He has been gone almost ten years now. My husband wasn't a huge dog lover til this dog and sobbed like a baby when he died. We were so heartbroken. We never got another dog. Since watching Benny's videos, we agreed to adopt another. This breed is SOOOO very special .... we are not even interested in any other. I had a wonderful golden retriever b4 our Berner. We mourned her for several years before adding a Berner to the family. I love Goldens.... they're a great breed .. but Berners are in their own class. Okay enough babbling. These videos cracked our hearts wide open.

In my experience Bernese - young Bernese - are energetic, wouldn't say highly strung. I was recently in a convention with over 80 Bernese dogs - I'd say one was highly strung. They just don't like the wind monster.

Don't mistake happy for high strung. That really isn't their temperment. Owner should work with their Bernese to mind and be calm when needed, but they are generally just very happy, goofy dogs, not high strung.

Ya happy goofy dogs with family but super sensitive. Just my tone of voice watching hockey can make the dog cower and go to her downstairs sleepy spot.

Not highly strung, but VERY sensitive! They are easily scared or hurt by yelling, or displays of temper, get hurt feelings if they are criticized, often run away at any sign of fighting, human or dog. For a big dog they can be timid and if they aren't socialized well as pups they can become family only dogs easily. If they are socialized...they become the "I love everyone doofs you see here."

My Berner Coco is seven now. I love these videos and totally see the Berner mannerisms are universal. Coco gets rained on all the time so gets bathed from rainwater and I rarely have to shampoo. She is the best naturally smelling dog I have owned by far with popcorn smelling toes. Also hates wind, especially when it blows behind her on her bum. Hysterical pups.

Most important to dry the undercoat on a Bernese or they will still stink after a bath. Love Benny's videos.

My Bernese Mountain Dog is learning to love his bath at 5 months old. He is a service dog in training and a therapy dog. So...he HAS to be clean. We go to Rods & Dogs, a combo self service car and dog wash. We go 1 time a month and he gets treats and pampering from the time we leave until done. On work days I soak a towel, wring it out and go over his coat and then run a brush through it. Then he puts on his vest. Even at 5 months, and as early as 3 months...when the vest goes on, the antics go off. He takes his job seriously. I say "Ok Jedi-ah, are you ready to go to work and earn money to buy kibbles?" " Ready! Wants to go to work and get much loves and cuddles. Yep! Let's go, you waiting on me, you wasting time. Cuddles, lunch, people to take care of....Come on, we go now!" He works a full day, even goes to Family Treatment Court 2 days a week....he is a comfort to the families there that are working so hard to change their lives, and everyone in the court house loves him. Weekends and after work, he's the doofus good you see here and he loves his older woman girlfriend...a 9 year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier. The sun rises and sets on her as far as he is concerned. He's a happy boy.

We have an 8 month old Bernese Mountain Dog. He also hates the dryer at the petstore where we bath him. The one near is is loud, like a central vac on reverse. So we have to towel dry him as much as we can first. We finish off with the dryer, and try to make it as quick as possible. He tolerates baths a little more each time.

When we are bathing out Labrador (she’s not a fan) we smear peanut butter on the wall of the shower and she just stands so happy and licks at it. If there is any left (there never is, she’s super greedy) you can just wipe it off with a wet wipe or cloth. She doesn’t even mind getting baths anymore 👍🏼

The same t give our dog a bath was a battle. He loved daily to let me on his walk either to the beach some 4 miles from home or our local woods, and roll in the mud lol. And daily when on the beach, in particular winter, he knew ohh we go back home, he went back in sea for 2 hrs or so, knowing you won't come after him, we ended up 5 days a week after 7 pm at home.

He's just such a good dog. He likes the attention but not the water, really. The fur dryer is hard for him to take...but he tries. Dogs have such sensitive noses that I bet the shampoos we use are kind of overwhelming.
