This is probably the most reasonable assessment of the game I have seen. It was almost like the flaws made the game feel more humanized and such I cared about it more. (Long winded way to say coping hard)

I completely get you! I have the same feeling about Skyrim. The game is great... in 2011. And don't get me wrong, it holds up in some aspects, mostly to do with the world and immersion. But objectively speaking the game is a mess. The story is lackluster, the gameplay- simple and very meh without mods, and the bugs... I don't have anything to add about the bugs. But even with all that, Skyrim is my favourite game of all time! There is just nothing that has come close to the experience that IS SKYRIM for me. Elden Ring almost came close, but it was just too good and polished of a game to have that certain charm. I ahven't played cyberpunk yet, as I just don't have the hardware to run the damn thing, plus I wanted to wait until they polish it and release the DLC. But even while watching people bash the game, from the gameplay and story moments I have seen, I understand the peoples hate for the unfulfilled promise, but i don't share it. And this is coming from someone who pre-ordered the damn thing! (first and last time). In short, I think I'll like cyberpunk 2077, when I'll get to play it. It is simply a ''human'' game, if that makes sense.

First of all my condolences. Second, I really think CP2077 has some of the best written and most believable characters in any game. The gameplay is fun but I would trade like 50% of the gigs and lots of the scanner hustles for a few more missions with Jackie, Dexter, Judy, Panam, Kerry, Johnny etc.
@iconoclast6555
@iconoclast6555 Жыл бұрын
The gigs and the ncpd scanners are so underrated because most people do not read the shards or the computer conversations in them. When you realize that so many of the characters mentioned in those shards and computer convos can be met in the game and that they're connected, the sense of reward is great because it adds a lot to the world building of the game and makes night city so much more alive. But I would have loved more missions with the main characters of course, although the ones we got, especially with panam were pretty long.
@kukipett
@kukipett Жыл бұрын
I don't agree with the characters, for example Jackie, his contents is really small and his personality one dimentional. You have a few scripted scenes and when it's in gameplay he is really a pain in the ass, blowing your cover, shouting like an idiot and not doing anything interesting. We love him at first but after a while i was happy that he was dead and just a good memory. Same with Johnny, he quickly becomes annoying with his mind locked in an Arasaka hatred. And the worst V, they wanted to make V as neutral as possible so everybody can have his V but in this way he or she is just a nobody, no past, no future and a shitty life being a dirty mercenary in a pile of crap. Maybe it's why they want him dead so he cannot come back in the future! Just compare with TW3 characters and it's just another world, it's hard to believe that the same people made the two games or maybe they were not the same, without the helps of The witcher books and background they just showed that they could not create a good working world.

@@kukipett imo Jackie is one of the best written characters in the game because, while he's not that complex he doesnt have to be and shouldnt be, he's just a regular dude just another merc and ex-gangbanger nothing special and that's what he's supposed to be and even if they wanted to make him super complex(which they shouldnt) they didnt havev the time. Despite this he's not one-note, he still feels like a full, developed person with all his own intricacies and his own personality and character he feels *real* like someone you could get to know irl and befriend despite his character not being super special or complex. And on top of all this the writers were able to get the players to *love* him in the short time we had with him and really feel V's connection and friendship and closeness to him, and they were able to make him dying feel like a fucking shot. We probably dont even have 30 full minutes of dialogue with him and i fucking *cried* at his ofrenda and felt his loss.

What we really need is this game treatment on Shadowrun. That way, you'd have fantasy races, a *real* feeling of being a techno-merc, and the whole matrix to play with. The problem with cyberpunk is that its supposed to be future fantasy. But with locust-pepperoni, the rise of AI and how our government/corporations are acting, Cyberpunk feels more like '2 weeks from now' than 'in the future.'

Honestly I think one of my biggest problems with cyber punk is the way the story begins. You start off w an intro mission and then get shown a clips of your character and Jackie going around and completing jobs. It’s only after this that you get to start playing. I really don’t understand why they would make the most fun part of the game unplayable. It makes no sense. I 100% expected to come to night city and learn the ways of the people there, but all we got was an intro clip and a car. To add onto this, why does V not have any upgrades after all that time working with Jackie? It’s not like it’s a new technology…. Did Jackie never show V about upgrades until later on??? It’s very confusing that our character is apparently now familiar with the city, but we as a player still have no idea wtf is going on. When you play a game that is heavily story driven and played from your character perspective, I feel like I should be thinking the same things as my character. That intro video was so immersion breaking and disappointing. I remember first watching that cutscene and I just sat there dumbfounded. Like “why am I not playing, experiencing this with my character?” It’s one of the main reasons I can’t play the game. I feel like being able to play the very beginning of our journey in night city would be much better than delivering a guy with a faulty Dick implant (yes that’s a real mission)

To the point of Cyberpunk's main quest putting the player on a tight schedule and immersion breaking as you take your time with the side content, I really felt that when playing the game as well. Contrast that to the Witcher III where Geralt searching every inch of the world makes perfect sense as his main objective is to find Ciri who could be anywhere. I've always thought that the found the golden goose in making the main quest of an open world game "search the entire world". Another thing that bothered me a ton while playing cyberpunk was how you get to customize your character in any physical manner imaginable, even choose their backstory, but the game still forces V's personality/morality on the player. When walking around the map, I would often feel the only way to not commit at least quadrouple homicide at every street corner was to purposefully avoid engaging in the games marked content, in other words to not play the game. I wish I would have had the freedom to not play an almost indiscriminantly killing V given the game pretends to put the character of V in the players hands. It also doesn't seem right that there are seemingly no repercussions for killing anywhere from 30 to 70 gang members in a given in game day, but I guess the underworld bosses just can't be bothered.

Well you can commit suicide, and I would have chosen that ending but decided to go the Panam way Also the questing makes sense because you are a merc, you need to live and the City doesn't care, you need to do the jobs It didn't make much sense in Witcher 3 either, because you needed to do lots of activities rather than finding Ciri (not even talking Gwent) but that's the nature of a working life

instead of three weeks they should have given V either a year or 6 months. That would have solved alot of issues with the pacing and immersion. Lmao it's not that immersive where I only have three weeks to live but I decide to go racing with Claire or eat with River and his family like everything is fine. And they should have made a few side quests be main quests like the Rogue ones and maybe even Kerry's ones. Basically every side quest related to Johnny should have been in the main quest. If you choose to ignore the side quests you literally finish the game in a couple of hours which is so stupid. I dont agree with the small side missions though, I think that having them in the map made more sense because sometimes I dont really wanna explore for hours to find these small quests or have to search on the internet to find them so while I agree that it sometimes make these small interactions less memorable its much better than not coming across them at all in your game just because you didnt visit this random store. I do agree with most points in your video though. The way Witcher 3 made the contracts was much better than the way CP did the gigs even though they werent that terrible. They fixed some technical issues. Cool. FFXIV and No Man´s Sky, those game had redemption arks. Not this one, not in the slightest. However.. when I played through Cyberpunk last year with a bit different mindset, I actually had really good time. It was not the game we were promised, not at all but starting the game knowing that I am not playing the game I was waiting for, for 10 years, it allowed me to immerse myself into V much more. And in the end it actually gave me that satysfying, emotional conclusion that I hoped for. Combining Judy romance and Aldecaldos ending was.. bittersweet.

I didn't do a lot of side content as I got bored of it, and mostly focused on the main story and the most important characters (like Panam). So I also want to replay it some time. But as one of my biggest disappointment was the driving and the police system, I'll wait until that is improved. The DLC looks to be very linear, more like an action shooter than an RPG, so not sure how interested I am in that. But as there are some amazing (hopefully) new RPGs coming out very soon, I'm in no rush to get back into Cyberpunk.

First of all, my condolences. I'm sorry for your loss and I hope you're coping well. This was such a refreshing review! It felt so honest and I thank you for your hard work in making such great content. My sincere condolences, a late farewell to your sister. "I read all of them because I can't help myself..." I must be afflicted too. My immediate thought upon finishing the game was that it would've been a lot better if it had been a more linear, story-driven game instead of using the open-world format. The main quest and some of the major side quests are really good but there's a lot of janky filler and the timing issues that you mentioned really hurt the flow of the game. I'm thinking about replaying it in the future and just doing the main quest and Panam's and Judy's sidequests and ignoring everything else just to get a tighter narrative experience.

I feel you man. It was a miracle that I was able to complete multiple endings (not playthroughs) on the PS4. The experience was so much better when I upgraded to the PS5 version a few years later. But, I plan to pick it up again with the upcoming 2.0 update. Now, the only thing I disagree with is your comparison of Gerault to V. Gerault was an established character who would have thoughts about things you found in the world. V, on the other hand, was made to be more of a blank slate. Different players would have different thoughts about the same location in Night City. I don't know how this could've been reconciled.

Very good video. I appreciate and agree with most of your analysis of the vanilla game here. I never played it much tbh, bc like I do with most games, I quickly saw the things I didn't like and modded them. There's a limit ofc but between scissors, djkovric, rmk, e3rok, and many others, most of the issues you have with gameplay at least are made much better through mods. Game Time Tweaks for 1:1 timescale fixes the ticking clock aspect. Scissors Difficulty Options and Vehicle Combat mods make enemies and combat much more interesting. Daemon Netrunning, Better Netrunning, and No Scanner Time Dilation can make hacking builds much more challenging and fun. There are even some options to improve and expand romances with Judy, Panam, etc. that really add depth to that aspect. IMHO modding is such standard practice these days that it's silly to ignore it, especially when it's intended and supported by the game devs.

The whole "you are going to die" time limit was a problem. What they COULD have done was had Anders Hellman have some kind of treatment for V's condition. Would it have cured him? No. He might have hinted at that which V could have even found out later that Hellman was lying and that brings out drama if they wanted. But they could have had that to remove the sense of urgency to the main plot. It goes from "You got days pal" to, "I've extended your condition to months" or "maybe a year"

You made very good points, I agree with most of them. I for one bought the game 3 days after release on xbox one and during the first car chase my game glitched, couldn't even shoot after the first 2 cars and everything sounded as if I was underwater or hearing everything through a cup. Combat was laggy, had to rely on long ranged weapons and hacks. Driving was laggy, couldn't drive in any car as the games frame rate would tank and driving in 3rd person in general caused the same issue. For me my immersion was constantly broken whenever I noticed my shadow, gave my character big hair yet whenever I saw my shadow I was bald. Despite all those issues I forced myself through the game with all these issues and I fairly enjoyed it, one of my personal all time favorites but I'd still would rather play fallout 3. I was REALLY disappointed with all the promises that we're made and the whole *It'll be ready when it's ready* stunt irked me that they kept repeating it only to still stumble and drop the cake. I had high hopes it would be the best game ever made but unfortunately it's not. Not even close. I personally really enjoyed the setting and the bleak tone of it all. Had me thinking about it even year's after. i don't really feel it had a redemption, sure they polished out most of the issues but the game still doesn't hit right. I kinda expected more... interaction with the world like tiny things like hanging out with romance options perhaps inviting them to V's place? Like more reason to care about the characters because after their quests. That's it. I really didn't like that because I enjoyed A LOT of the characters in the game, didn't like how after doing their respective quests they are just there to be forgotten. some of the missions felt inconclusive or rushed, (not the many story) and the the lack of character choice's that change the narrative. Regardless of all the issues, similar to fallout 3? The setting,side content and lore is what keeps me invested. However with cyberpunk I expected A LOT more like, going to a night club and using BDs to see dances or ordering food at V's apartment type but none of it came to be. What made it special to me we're the little thing's that made it in and it was enough for me to be contrnt with the game. But because of this I can never be hyped for a game no matter how long it was cooking in the oven. Devs shouldn't make promises that can't be kept.

I haven't played the game yet but I was looking forward to it. The issues you bring up about the narrative would likely really bother me. Is there any chance you think they might address it in the Phantom Liberty update? Apparently it's making some significant changes to the game as a whole.

I found the shard story telling to be better story wise when I played as a netrunner. To me it was like V had gotten that information due to hacking skills, and would give a reason to looking at them because that V’s playstyle would be needing/wanting that info. When I did play outside of a netrunner it felt a bit clunky tho

One of the things that break V's urgency is there are quests where you have to wait for a follow up. The quests for Judy and Panam, for example. They have between like 5-10 quests each and after every quest you have to wait a day or two. I think it'd be way more immersive if you didn't have to wait

About the bugs. I played Cyberpunk around the Edgerunner Hype time. While I did run into some bugs, like NPCs phasing through cars and also around 2-3 crashes across over 100 hours of playtime, you seem to have had a lot more and a lot worse bugs than I did. My experience was with very few exceptions quite smooth. You must have had bad luck in that regard.

You keep referring to V as a male, but my V is a female, and the voice acting of Cherami Leigh is just awesome. (spoiler alert) And if you play V as a female you can romance Judy, which will make her stay in NC. If you then complete the game with the Aldecado's, you and Judy are still together as you leave NC with her and Panam.

Of all the languages possible you chose to speak facts. This game is a rollercoaster that pulls you in and out of the immersion. The moments in this game are heavy, and memorable, with some of the best video game music i've heard in recent times. I could sit with Panam and the Aldecaldos at that campfire for hours, drinking with River while glaring at Night City, getting away from it all spending time with Judy, or laying back listening to Kerry's peaceful riffs. But, as soon as it ends i get this familiar feeling of something akin to waking up from a dream. Im back in this world that just feels dead, a complete contrast to those moments. Everything feels like a checklist facilitated by a main plot that makes me feel guilty for even doing them.

I too did all the side content, gigs, hussles etc. Literally cleaned the map out....twice. I read every quest related shard I came across. To be honest i was pretty blown away how everything was interconnected. Even the shards you find during basic hussles provide context and put larger peices of the puzzle together ting to other jobs. Had CDPR decided to not put a lot of this stuff on the map w/ an icon it would have had that much more impact. When the DLC drops I'm going to do a 3rd playthrough w/ the last life path i haven't did yet (street kid) and turn all the side content icons off.

i think that quest giving is one of the biggest problems of the open world games nowadays. People want to experience the games fully, they are scared of missing content. The result is that developers make it in a way that you wont miss anything. Not many games stand out from this. You have this confrontation of immersivity and realisation that you are still playing a game and there are some exclamation marks on your minimap. As much as i would want completely immersive experience that flows from quest to quest naturally, i myself am part of problem as i find it hard to play games like that. There is a reason why the rpg genre started the way they did, with dungeon master that tells story made for players.

I think they should've locked main quest progression with some side quests or street cred or something. Giving V only 3 weeks to live seems so contradictory to how they seem to want V to develop - take your time and live in the moment a la Ferris Beuller quote.

Well said, though I'm sad to see that the game apparently hasn't change much within these 2 years, I expected much more. Some of the side content was absolutely fantastic, I also remember e.g. going through the childhood of some murderer and other fresh ideas. But ultimately, it was still an underwhelming experience for me simply because the good stuff is buried beneath too much average and bad. Having the quality content within a more narrow experience that keeps you in its grasp would have probably left me with much fonder memories. With this rollercoaster of emotions, it didn't really feel like much in the end. I will definitely replay this at some point though, hoping that some of the adjustments do the trick for me.

Excellent review. Very reasonable and unbiased. I fully agree on most of your points, and I'm happy to point out that several of the problems you mentioned will get fixed by CDPR. Not just police and vehicle, but there's gonna be things like a new melee system, more world interactivity, enemy netrunners, etc. I love Cyberpunk much for the same reasons as you, but also because I recognize the incredible potential this game has. Whether it lives up to that potential with Patch 1.7 and Phantom Liberty remains to be seen.

Thanks for the vid and a fair take on Cyberpunk! In my opinion, if you don't like Cyberpunk when it was release, you will probably not like it now. I've spent more than 400 hrs into this game but I have to admit that this game is no where near a masterpiece even at its current state. After 2 years, Cyberpunk as a nearly-good game with a lot of bugs has just turned into a good game with fewer bugs.

When I did the Johny Silverhand missions, I forgot V was dying. They would pop pills and swap bodies like yugioh. It was hard to believe V was dying. The Witcher 3 is a much better game, but Cyberpunk is much more fun than The Witcher 3. I NEVER get bored when playing Cyberpunk. The Witcher is much slower, the combat is much less engaging and sometimes the game's just a chore to play. Especially after multiple playthroughs, the dialogue can get straining to listen to. (ofc you could always skip the dialogue, but that removes like half of the game) The Witcher 3 is much more polished, has better quests, a main story, a much deeper world, and all that. But Cyberpunk is simply more fun to me to play. I never get the urge to put down the game when I'm doing a playthrough, unlike with TW3. I could play the game through in one sitting. It’s just so captivating, although TW3 is more impactful and memorable by the end.

2:20 finally I'm not alone with this feeling. People all over the internet are praising the character writing in this game and yet when I played it for the very first time the story and relations between V and other characters felt awkward at least, and I was doing the side quests as well. For example the relationship with Panam, lore wise you literally know her for 3 days and suddenly the relationship seems like V and Panam have known each other for years. I played through the most important side quests (Kerry, River, Panam, Judy) and upon seeing the point of no return I thought 'this cant be it' and when I realized that I just beat the game in about 20-25 hours I uninstalled without even going through the ending. The characters are just empty for me, and their relationships forced and rushed, which os quite unfortunate as the world itself has huge potential and amazing lore
