I always think "Oh, it's Martin. He could have 40 rooks." But then he plays the best move on occasion and you end up losing all of your knights and bishops.

I guess it would be kinda boring bc martin would only win if there's mate in 2 on starting position - stockfish always knows best moves so it can't defend perfectly otherwise

@@The_Alice_Natasha funny enough I suspect a player that understands martin well could do better than stockfish because stockfish is not going to do "bad" moves that invite martin to blunder while a player can try to manipulate the AI (for exemple knowing they can play more boldly if there is no mate in 2 to defend)

i did try this once, and stockfish simply short circuit. Stockfish never wanna do the needed trades(doesnt know that martin often doesnt take back), and just keeps trying to hold pieces alive. i survived longer vs rooks than stockfish did.

Generally you want to move the pawns toward the center

Seems like taking with check is worse vs martin if taking lets him get out of check by recapturing. He seems way more likely to let you take for free and not recapture if you don't take + check.

Martin has a certain probability to make worse moves on purpose, Instead of making the absolute best moves you should try to cheese him instead to win. I managed to beat martin with 20 rooks this way lol
