I had the intake, Rinehart true dual exhaust, Woods 555 cams and a tuner my mechanic recommended (can't remember the brand) added to my 2010 FLHTC with the TC96 and it became a totally awesome machine. It put a smile on my face that wouldn't go away.

Took my 96ci to a 107ci via fuelmoto (supplied my own ez start chris rivas 585ce cams) with stock heads (looking for torque not really chasing hp numbers) and a 2-1 v&h pro pipe with fp3. Low brow customs hand shifter and this beast is mine! 112t 116hp thanks for urging me semi consistently to upgrade. 105k miles and stock tensioner shoes were toast. Stay safe man!

I think 95 to 103 cubic inches is plenty of displacement! If you want more power focus on other things, cams, heads, pistons, etc. rather than in just upping displacement. I remember when the 96 inch motor first came out, and people were thinking it would be a substantial power increase over the 88, which ended up not being the case. About a 5 hp increase, and 8 to 10 ft lbs of torque. The 96 inch twin cam has some good potential it just needs woke up, get the right cam in, get it breathing good, and a good tune it will make a world of difference. If you make the right upgrades, and take good care of them, the Twin Cams are actually some good motors.
@ckthompson7928
@ckthompson7928 Жыл бұрын
I'm an 88" guy if I get another bike I would absolutely get a 96" the 103 ho is a beast, but I'm an odd guy, I like small displacement and large power . I know most times you sacrifice reliability for performance, but I've found when it comes to the Harley V-Twin as long as you stay in the 1.25 HP per cubic inch you don't see a lot of reliability issues. Provided you do the math and get a good set up of, heads , cams, and tuning. The cams and heads are the most important part of the build for power. No replacement for displacement but damn if it ain't fun to try to do 😂

I've stated before on my 02 88 cubic inch boarded as far as it goes compression releases went to the straight gear drive cam chest oil pump fueling 574 cams 10 and 1/2 to one compression and I love it it's a rocket ship it's more than I need for the way I ride but you always dream of having more my advice is go on and go to the 107 and get what you can out of it because if you don't you will want more later but I love the twin cam

The only Twin Cam I would even consider would be a fairly low mile '02 and earlier carbureted non balanced 88 with the Timken bearing (almost certainly a Dyna) I don't ride hard, I don't ride fast, I just like to cruise, feel those wonderful vibrations and listen to that beautiful exhaust note. I wouldn't make any modifications to it other than an exhaust system if it didn't already have one I liked, tune the carburetor for the exhaust if necessary, and add some more chrome. Aside from their feel and sound, IMO anyway, chrome is what Harleys are all about.

My 96 really benefitted from a free flow air cleaner, V&V short Shots with quiet baffle (for some added back pressure?) S&S easy start 583 cams and a remap on a rolling road. It pulls hard, so much so the clutch slipped in 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th. I fitted the Barnett 9 plate clutch and a higher rate pressure plate. I've got a Popeye left arm now but the bike performance is enough for me (for now anyway). Lots of future options to consider.

I started with a SE Heavy breather, Magna Flow 2x2 ex,FP3, runs great and has been the most reliable bike I've had (had my share).my other additions focused mainly on known weak points. Replaced CC tensioners, added Feuling oil pump, adj push rods, 2 inch tank lift, Accell Stealth coils (hotter spark and removal of coil and wires), BDL 2" belt drive (compensator and terrific Barnett clutch upgrade), external breather system (mounted catch can where stock coil was). I've had it a few months and I'm contemplating changes to help it last more so than make it faster. Focus on cooling and full-compliment cam bearings etc. I like that a Harley is a forever bike. I had a Nightrain with the 96ci, went through MMI's Harley program, and while in school built my motor out to 107ci, polished and ported heads, went with Fueling cams, cam plate, hiflo oil pump, hydraulic tensioners, bearings, etc., if I remember correctly It was lil' over 110 hp, the top side of 120"lb of torque...it would lite the tire up in 3rd without the use of the clutch, which I changed out too, shortly after finding that the stock clutch didn't handle the extra torque so well after that it was just right to me...then 6 months later a nice lil ole lady hit me in the ass sitting at a red light, totaled the bike and the insurance company ended up not letting me purchase the bike back, so I'm sure it was a nice surprise to whoever tore into the motor, or it was crushed😭

Gday mate, Greetings from Melbourne, Australia 🇦🇺 👍 i'm a fan of your youtube channel and appreciate all of your insight and advice. I'm just wanting to know what you'd suggest as far as a cam selection for my '07 (96") FXDWG... i currently just have a hi-flo filter, 2-1 supertrapp (18 discs & open end cap) and dyno tuned to suit... a friend has given me a set of 103" cylinders & heads. The heads have manual compression releases installed already. I'm saving up for the Fueling cam plate & Oil Pump, inner cam bearings, hydraulic lifters, gaskets, cams & pistons. What cams would u recommend for my planned setup and what compression pistons to suit?? I'm looking for more bottom-mid end torque as a majority of my riding is around town... your recommendations and advice would be much appreciated mate 👍 Thanks

I have a 2018 Street Glide Special M8 107 with Harley's torque cam, Ventilator air cleaner, V&H Power Dual header and High Output mufflers. The dealer tuned it with Harley's Street Tuner. The numbers are nowhere near the numbers you're getting with a modified 96. They got 92 HP & 105 Torque. That said, the bike feels very fast to me but I've always questioned those numbers. Do you think I should be getting more from this setup? Great videos & THANKS!!!

So I have an '04, 88" twin-cam-B that I had the dealership install a HD 96" kit and tune, cam, oil pump, etc. a few years ago. Is there a jug/piston upgrade that will work for that? After the 96" kit the dyno for HP&TQ was in the mid 90's. I have also installed some DK Custom toys (Check them out on KZbin) and there is a noticeable if not dramatic improvement in HP&TQ. If both are not over 100, they are scaring the hell out of it.

Hi Gixxer, Could you please do a video on newly assembled engine. How to break it in. We just installed S&S 110 big bore in 07 Heritage 96 Ci and I am very confused because I have been told the following: Don't ride at steady speed, don't let rpm rise too much, no lugging, no reving the throttle, don't heat up the engine, don't get in 3rd or 4th gear etc. With Los Angeles traffic, it is very hard to do all of the above. For first 50 miles, I have done 16 miles and it has confused the heck out of my brain. Please advice something simple to follow.

The FM 107 numbers with a Wood 555 @ 10.25 compression without head work are usually about 103-105HP and up to 120-ish TQ. My 103 Race Kit runs at 10.5:1 compression, but I'm not sure if the SE 259E cam is giving me the best out of the motor. If I could do it all over again, I may have gone with the FM 107 without headwork, because as you say "Harley's are all about TQ".
