Hey Glamfam!
In today's video we are going to discuss a topic that I've been getting a lot of questions about lately: "How do I take care of my low porosity relaxed hair?"
Spoiler alert...you don't. Thats because there is no such thing as low porosity relaxed hair. Caustic chemicals we put in our hair permanently alter the structure and porosity of the hair. Each time you chemically treat your hair, in increases a little (or lot) in porosity, as well as it's need for moisture, protein, and TLC.
At first, I had no intention of covering this topic, but after a started getting the same question from multiple people, I wanted to ensure that I spoke about it, as clearly if people are asking, then an answer is needed...especially considering that many naturals have been thinking about taking the plunge back to relaxer. In short, relaxed, permed, and bleached hair all require elevated care, as the chemicals have elevated your porosity.
I hope this helps answer any questions that you may have had on the topic, but if you should have a few more, please don't hesitate to ask me in the comment section! Until next time GlamFam, take care, God bless, and stay Glam!
You know I love you boo!

Can you please do a video on how to tell the ph of our products(shampoos, conditioners specifically but others too if it applies)
@soilmicrobe
@soilmicrobe 2 жыл бұрын
@@KeAsjanai_Untitled you can get litmus paper and do a pH test on it. another way is boil a chopped red cabbage, wait for the red juice to cool, and mix your product into it. it’ll change color based on what the pH is. i don’t remember the colors meanings, but it’s a fairly common high school chem lab, so you should be able to find info on it! i have no idea how to tell from the ingredients, which i’m sure is what you’d rather have so you don’t have to buy a product to test it. its just if you’re curious about the products you already have, the cabbage thing is only like 3 dollars at most to do. also just since you asked about other products, getting a slightly acidic (pH 5.6 is ideal i think?) cleanser for your face/body can do amazing things! i really like the face milk oil cleanser from laneige (you can get it at sephora)

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! You broke this down so well that it made me understand my relaxed hair so much better. My water glass hair test tells me I’m low porosity but my hair doesn’t respond to a low porosity regimen. When I started treating my hair like it was high porosity, my hair started thriving and because of your explanation, I now know why. Thank You!

@SSNUTHIN

The water test really isn't useful because eventually all hairs will fill with water and go where they may and there are complications about what is in the water that can affect results. Really you just learn over time how quickly your hair absorbs products, drying speed, and you'll notice when it changes as well. My hair is low porosity and it takes my hair up to 4 days to air dry; a perm doesn't penetrate it at all; and when I used to bleach my hair I called it "playing chicken with bleach" because I was going way over how long the developer said just get to dark orange. There's no special products really, but you learn to anticipate the needs of your hair. I think we get bogged down in the categories sometimes because it's easier to type in "products for low porosity hair" than it is to experiment and spend all that time, money, and hope seeking our perfect regimen. In the end, it's just about knowing you need certain things (like extra time or a processing cap) to get your products to penetrate in a way that makes the most out of your products and your time. Stay fastidious and you will develop your dream regimen. 💪🏾

She can style hair but she cannot take care of the hair/scalp so I bring my own products all at the right PH and chosen by my trichologis and I have my hair on a schedule based on consistency and what it is asking for. If you find a relaxer that doesn't eat up your hair, let me know. There's soooo much that can go wrong with a relaxer, not only the relaxer itself, but WHO applies the relaxer and how it's washed out. Some of the problem is with the stylist, some don't wash the hair properly after applying a relaxer. I've been natural for four years and will never go back to a relaxer. I think once you get to know what works best for your natural type of hair , you will love your natural hair. 🥰🥰

Before waving I grew up with relaxed and tried natural for a few years. My hair is this relaxed and even thicker natural so im trying to find the easiest route which would be relaxed but i want it to grow out healthy and this video was amazing at helping me understand what I need to expect and how to prepare for it. Great explanation. For us relaxed girls on a budget, which over the counter shampoo, conditioner, and oils would you recommend? Tfs

This makes so much sense! When I was relaxed and colored, my hair was high porosity but then when I went natural I was like why is my hair acting so weird now 🤦🏽‍♀️😂

Hi, Linwood. Thanks so much for caring enough about the health of our hair to take time explaining this to us! Extremely informative and helpful. I have a question (hope you get this, I know the vid posted some years ago). Considering the effects relaxers and similar alkaline treatments have on the hair, it’s very clear that these are not the way to go if you want the HEALTHIEST, STRONGEST hair. After hearing your great explanation on how it works, I ask this: Is “healthy”relaxed hair an oxymoron? Even with paying special attention to the faithful deep conditioning, moisturizing, and sealing you discussed in this video, is “somewhat less damaged” about the best we can get? Important questions for me because I’m considering going back to a relaxed style and ran to your channel to study up, FR!
