It’s great to see someone from The Netherlands appreciate our wee Subway in Glasgow. I’ve been on the Amsterdam Metro on my last visit to Amsterdam. It may not look it but the cars on the Glasgow Subway are about as old as Amsterdam’s Zilvermeeuw cars (built by Metro-Cammell in Birmingham in 1978-1980) also these were 2nd generation cars. The 1st generation cars were used on the subway from 1896 to 1977 when the Subway closed for refurbishment. The original cars were at first cable hauled until 1935 when they were converted to electric power.

As a Geordie I loved the fact the 70s Modernisation Motor cars retained their Metro-Cammell builders footplates (that were removed on the Tyne and Wear Metro fleet). Strangely, the Subway trailer cars lost their "Hunslet-TPL" footplates in the 00s.

They need to build more lines but with the tunnels to sub-surface dimensions (eg like the District Line on the London Underground)

Those tiny trains do accelerate very fast
@alastairorr63186 ай бұрын
Slightly slower than old ones. Takes 28 minutes to go right round the loop in the new trains, 24 minutes in the old trains.

@RailagonBloxStudios Жыл бұрын
Driverless trains? No. How about make the other 13 stations accessible or expand the system.
@stephenkelly18878 ай бұрын
In actual fact, the existing trains can be driverless too. That sometimes happens once the system has shut down for the night. Normally, the driver only has to close the window and press 2 buttons. Apart from the doors, the rest is usually automated.
@stephenkelly18878 ай бұрын
@@RailagonBloxStudios Expanding the system should have happened years ago, but geological restrictions would make it way too expensive. I couldn't agree more about access.
