Hi Sue!! Thank you!! The clay that I use in this video is a Plainsman Clay M390. They are out of Alberta Canada and it’s a gorgeous smooth clay body to throw with! And the colour…speechless! The dark clay is from PSH 540i Black Clay, they too are a Canadian Pottery Supply House is also Canadian out of Oakville Ontario, but I believe they have a sister company in the US. It’s called black clay but fires to a rich dark ‘Oreo’ cookie brown at cone 6. It’s lovely to throw with! Thanks for watching!! ☺️

when you glaze inside, do you do the same amount of layers eg 3 on the outside- 3 on the inside, love your kiln openings and your drip, they are just beautiful
@SarahWaltonPottery Жыл бұрын
Hi Denise, thank you for your question…but there is no exact answer. If you want the same look on the inside as the outside, then yes..but you don’t have too. You may use 3 coats on the inside and 4-5 coats on the outside as you may add layers just to the outside or vice versa. I hope that makes sense 😵💫🤔❤️

Hi Sarah - you are the first person I have seen that has a kiln like I do. I am still relatively new to pottery. Can I ask how you do your firing? I do two hours with the first switch and then flip the next ones each hour afterwards. Is that how you do yours? Thanks for the help.
@SarahWaltonPottery2 жыл бұрын
Hi Rose! This is going to be a long winded answer because there really isn’t a right wrong answer. Ido a variety of firings, but I find for the most part I flick a switch about every 2 hrs. I know my kiln hits ^6 around 10 hrs so if I want a hold I begin checking like every 15 min so I can turn it back on again. I’ve rigged a stick that holds the sitter in place then I don’t leave and wait the the 15 and shut it off again. I’ve gone the quicker route (a switch an hour) and I still got great results. I suggest while you learn your kiln to take notes. Like when you close the lid..if your running a fan..closing the peeps well the bottom one anyways. The first switch I keep the lid propped with both peeps open and an oscillating fan pointing at the kiln to push air thru..I can keep it like this through to the last switch sometimes and then maybe an hour or so I’ll go back and close the peep (I always keep the top peep open during my firing and close it during cool down) the lid I usually shut when I flick my third switch.. have fun experimenting!!😊good luck!

@SarahWaltonPottery2 жыл бұрын
Hi Sandy, The brushes in this video are Amaco Brushes and I picked them up at Tuckers Pottery (a local pottery supply store) I’m sure you could get them either directly from Amaco or a Pottery supply near you. If not I’d try art supply stores and look for natural bristle brushes as they really pick up more product thus a better deposit of glaze. Thanks for your question and for watching 😉😊

@SarahWaltonPottery2 жыл бұрын
@@ليانابراهيم-ز2ص hi, yes it’s safe to wash, and go in the dishwasher or microwave because it was fired to the correct temp for the clay body. That is enough to vitrify the clay. I wouldn’t leave a food surface without glaze that wouldn’t be food safe but on the outside of the vessel is perfectly fine..and it feels nice in the hand. Thanks for you question! 😉

Hi ^^ first of all thanks for sharing your knowledge :D i got a question, how long do you wait up for it to dry until you put on the next coating layer? thx for a short answer
@SarahWaltonPottery2 жыл бұрын
Hi, This is a great question and I’ll have to address it in a video, so thanks!! When you glaze, brush or dip, you can see when it dries, it’s quite noticeable as it turns powdery. As you layer more coats it takes longer to dry in between each layer. The first and second layer takes only a few min, literally. When I’m on my 4-6th coat you start to notice it’s taking 30 min or so to dry between layers. Once you see the powdery finish you know your good to add your next layer. Thanks for watching! 😉

The glazes used are Potters Choice by AMACO in Toasted Sage under Textured Turquoise. I list this info in the video and show how I apply it. I have seen some shades of PC Glazes on Amazon but not these particular ones at lease here in Canada.😊
