If you weren't aware poolofmud -- listen to Roger Miller's true masterpiece -- "River In the Rain," (KZbin) from an award winning Broadway show he wrote called "Big River" (1985). Miller wrote some memorable hit songs in the 60's but this "River In the Rain" tune convinces me he was no flash in the pan country-novelty singer-songwriter. Miller was masterful. The musicians on this track are stellar.

Yes, three very different singers and guitar players! I love Glen Campbell of course… And I love Willie Nelson and I love Roger Miller! All three their own styles! And Willie Nelson playing on that old guitar with that hole in it, it’s kind of amazing! He has such a great sound with that old guitar… And I love his voice and I love Roger Miller’s also!!!! That old guitar is a martin classical guitar with nylon strings, quite expensive in the 60's. Willie plays it in way that it's not meant to played, hence the damage since it has no pick guard. It's how he has such a unique sound. Oh and he is a virtuoso guitar plyer.

What I miss most about these men and their contemporaries of the time...they were all unique...everyone didn't sound the same and there wasn't a "formula". What a rich moment with Glen, Willie and Roger.

Victorville California hosted an annual bluegrass festival for many years. One year Michael Martin Murphy was supposed to be the headliner but canceled at the last minute. Roger Miller showed up and put on an incredible show. It was 1991 or 92 I think.
