EDIT: A few hours after publishing this video SAG-AFTRA announced that the strike is over. Please remember that my perspective and analysis was from the POV of the studio not knowing whether or not their actors would be available to promote. 😂🎉

No Hard Feelings has some good points about class woven into the romcom narrative. Not to mention a PERFECT song use in the restaurant scene. Chills! That's a movie that bears analysis, when you are permitted by the strike rules, of course

No joke, No Hard Feelings is currently in my Top 5 favourite films of 2023, I went into watching it pretty neutral and it completely won me over. I loved it. I tried to go buy it on physical media to support but the store was out of the Blurays. 😭

I don’t know how things are going to turn out, but it’s very possible that you can have two performers with great chemistry being let down by a movie/story that doesn’t allow their chemistry to shine. I’ve seen an instance where two leads who had great chemistry the first time together reteam for a movie where their chemistry felt deflated.

Oooooooooh, don't be shy, name names! 👀😂 I'm also basing my analysis of the bad teaser trailer doing the film/actors no favours based on Will Gluck's experience of directing comedies. Easy A and Friends with Benefits came out a decade+ ago but I think he's up to the task of creating space for actors to play and have fun in the rom com genre. Also, most rom coms I dislike are let down by a premise I strongly oppose or a production budget being so low that it becomes an eyesore at every level. I'm presuming that at worst, Anyone But You will be a mid-tier rom com and at best, it'll be great and I'll have fun watching it. 🤭

@@LadyJenevia Okay, so IMO, Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore had great chemistry in The Wedding Singer and 50 First Dates, but it felt really deflated in Blended. Now, when it comes to this movie, you can look at this as a nitpick, but their characters are supposed to be college rivals yet the actors are nine years apart in age and for me, I feel that. I’m not saying they don’t have chemistry, I’m just thinking maybe this might not have been the best project and best roles for them to make use of it. Could they be promoting the film this way because the movie might not be very good and they deem it better to promote the movie on the individual sex appeal of its stars? I mean, when the trailer dropped two months in advance of release, they should have dropped a full trailer, if you ask me.

I don't think I've heard of Blended. I just looked up the poster and it doesn't look familiar. If I have seen it and forgotten it, I don't remember so either way, I can't contribute an opinion on that one. 😂 This is pure speculation on my part but I think part of why they were slow to roll out a full trailer for Anyone But You is because things were still up in the air with the strike and there were probably discussions being had about if/when to delay the film (NO IDEA why a 1 week delay was deemed ideal but- 👀). If they did decide to delay the film by more than just a week it probably wouldn't have done them any favours to waste a trailer that early when so many studio films ended up pushed back by months and blew a bunch of their marketing budget on... nothing... 😬 I hadn't really given much thought to the age difference of the actors TBH but I also haven't seen much discussion of the film one way or another (which is partially why I've wanted to make videos about it) - the only talking point I saw was the "no chemistry" thing. 😆 No one in my social circles is even talking about it unless I bring it up (yet another reason why I've been making videos about it). I want people to show up here and give their opinions about the film or the genre or both. 😁

@@LadyJenevia It’s the most forgettable of their team ups. I rarely forget any movie I watch, though. I call that movie “Blanded” for obvious reasons. One opinion I saw regarding Anyone But You is that when it comes to Glen Powell in romcoms, people would rather see him team up with Zoey Deutch again.

Set It Up is excellent by Netflix's standards but the vast majority of Netflix's rom coms that I've seen have been abysmal to the point that I no longer want to watch them unless I need to do so for research. 💀 And regardless of the fun of a nostalgic itch being scratched by having previously successful on-screen pairings reunite, I think it's better for the genre for more people to get in there. Variety is needed right now with how few rom coms we're even getting on the big screen. 😭

I am SO with you. Whether this movie is good or bad, I am throwing money at it so that they keep trying to bring back this genre! I want cinematic release romcoms and I will not rest!

PERIODDD! You understand the bigger picture! 🧠 📈 I really don’t know of anyone in my personal or professional circles that is paying attention to Anyone But You unless I BRING IT UP to them. The journalists I know are just focusing on things like new superhero movies (which are already over-promoted!) Someone needs to push the rom com revival and if no one else will, I’LL DO IT. ❤️‍🔥

I’ll be honest I didn’t know this was based on much ado about nothing but now I’m interested in the movie. Great video! A very well constructed breakdown of this trailer.

Thank you for that! That's exactly my goal (to get more people interested in watching it 😂)! I elaborated more on the fact that it's based on Much Ado About Nothing in my modern literary adaptation video essay, if you feel like exploring it further. 🤭📚 kzbin.info/www/bejne/gl6ceYytgbB1gdk

Update on the movie: Sydney Sweeney was spotted in Australia today doing reshoots. Maybe when Sony announces release date changes, this could be pushed back to Valentine’s Day.

@@LadyJenevia Paparazzi photos were posted today via Daily Mail. I mean, to be fair, principal photography finished just before the Writers’ Strike and the Actors’ strike ended just a couple days ago. Although, how they were able to get up and running so quickly after the resolution is so weird.
