It's the reason I became a spurs fan....I watched Glen when I was 9...he just glided over the pitch. He seemed to do things so effortlessly..Sp😮urs attacking football..can't beat it.

An absolute pleasure to watch, worth the entrance fee alone at the lane to see him perform ★★★★★

Vision, assist and an eye for goals, but the England mangers would say he doesn't work hard without the ball. Only 53 caps should have been 153 Caps. Best British player of his generation by a country mile.

He was superb. And he'd be an absolute sensation in today's easy-peasy football on perfect pitches, with relatively little physical jeopardy and free kicks and penalties for the slightest infringement.

Wonderful player. I was spellbound at WHL in those days. He’d do at least one thing per game that was from another world. True Spurs finesse.

&2:02 🤯. Hoddle had an elite touch like Bergkamp😡(Credit where credit’s due). His footballing IQ was elite high. His weight of touch here is perfection. Touch isn’t just about picking the ball out of the air from a 50 yard pass, which Glenn could do with ease on both feet and make it look effortless. Touch is about the control one has over a football, and Glenn was elite that. England could do with a Hoddle now. We need someone in midfield who can pull the strings; Hoddle would’ve been that man.

I remember hearing the Passengers track playing in HMV in Oxford Circus soon after it came out and when Pavarotti comes in it was just stunning. Incredible sound quality -felt like I was floating through the store. Brian Eno's a total genius. Nice football too.

Eno is indeed the 'special sauce' in that mix.

Magnificent. The close-up footage from 5:09 to 5:20 is spellbinding, almost enables you to sense what it must feel like to play football like he did with some of his signature moves.

The most skilful player I have ever seen play live. Only Maradona and Zico had more skill and none of them were "two footed" like this genius.

@2:13 Makes a beautiful pass with the outside of his right foot.. Next clip, makes the opposition in midfield look like headless chickens and then makes a beautiful pass with the outside of his left foot. No CM today in England is close to Glenn. Foden has a nice touch but he’s mostly left footed unlike two footed Glenn. Nice song. What’s it called?

Nah! Dalglish, Cunningham, Brady, Barnes, Gascoigne, were all has skillfull as him & some of those players, had better dribbling skills. Hoddle was the best English two footed passer of the ball, since Sir Bobby Charlton though.
@davidbrooks1873 жыл бұрын
@@johnpacino007 They were all quality players but no one had the midfield dominance, artistry & creativity that Glenn had. I remember Johan Cruyff giving him his shirt in 1984 after Spurs beat Ajax at the lane and calling Glenn a master of the game. His incredible goals, also the 70 yard passes with each foot have not been matched , born out of incredible Vision & precision, truly world class was how Maradona described Glenn after playing with him in the Ardiles testimonial. Platini stated that if Glenn had been French he’d if gained 150 caps,.
@johnpacino0073 жыл бұрын
@@davidbrooks187 Hoddle was a really good player, but above his pay grade, when up against the *_real elite_* of the game. Platini busted him & England up, in 1984. England losing 2-0 to a brilliant brace from Platini. Hoddle & England got busted up against Maradona, at the 1986 world cup. We all know about both goals from Maradona for different reasons. He & England got busted up by Van Basten at the 1988 Euro's. A brilliant Van Basten brace saw to that. Interestingly. The lengendary Englishman, Sir Bobby Charlton said that: 🗣Platini was *_the best passer of the ball, he'd ever seen_* . No mention of Hoddle there? 🤷♂️
@davidbrooks1873 жыл бұрын
@@johnpacino007 Hoddle was always played out of position & never got a chance for England , he barely played in the 1984 England campaign despite being instrumental in winning the UEFA cup for Tottenham - he only had one run in the national team which got us to the quarter-finals of the 1986 World Cup and lineker the golden boot - the quarter final was a game that England dominated and the game was lost to a cheating hand ball & blind referee/ linesman. Hoddle outclassed van Basten in a international game in that run through the World Cup quarter-final. Hoddle didn’t play in 88 euros. His last game was a qualifier. Hoddle was French player of the year in a league & cup winning Monaco team under coach Arsene Wenger when the French league was the best in Europe and still couldn’t get a game in the England set up in 1998. To this day are some winger will state that Hoddle is the most skilful and talented player he has ever managed. The quotes from Platini , Maradona & Cruyff don’t lie. Brian Clough said in his book that he told the FA that he would build a team around Hoddle and win us the World Cup. It is universally recognised that Hoddle was the biggest waste of talent ever. John Barnes got 79 caps and only scored one decent goal for England and one or two good performances in them caps.Could you imagine if he would’ve had Glenn Hoddle command in the midfield and feeding him perfect through balls.I think John Barnes would’ve flourished. Clive Allen scored 49 goals in a season which is still a record. He is quoted as saying that Glenn would ask him before a game which foot he wanted the ball to land on & credits Hoddle for facilitating this record.

@@davidbrooks187 He's nowhere near on the best midfield players of all time listing, that comprise such great's as: Di Stéfano, Charlton, Cruyff, Zico, Platini, Maradona, Laudrup, Zidane, Xavi, Iniesta, Modrić. He's never hit the world cup, european cup, champions league, euro's, winning levels of those players.

Awful lot of tit for tat in these comments - my ten cents approaching my half century is that Hoddle sits alongside Gascoigne as the 2 most gifted English players in my lifetime of watching the game. Full disclosure I am a Spurs fan- but stand by the comment. I don't disagree with much of the narrative below that Hoddle didn't bring his A Game to the national side but that was defined by Greenwood & Robson not giving him the reign to play in his best '10' position behind the front 2. Hoddle was the reason I fell in love with the game & the reason I became a Spurs supporter. Like other sporting Genius (Botham in Cricket, Higgins in Snooker, Coe in Athletics) he was a reason to watch. An over used scenario but if Hoddle played today on these pitches, with the balls, with the boots & most importantly with the rules protecting creative players he would destroy teams. Not better than Kevin De Bruyne ... do me a favour! BTW some of the ref checking in these comments is woeful.
