My two main issues with the "Littlefinger sent the catspaw" theory are: 1. It doesn't really seem to make sense that the catspaw didn't have some kind of specific plan. "You weren't s'posed to be here. No one was s'posed to be here," isn't something you say if you're just there to sow chaos, it's something you say when a plan goes wrong. He also is specifically noted to "mutter sourly" indicating he's upset at this development. If he wasn't following a plan he wouldn't say anything at all, he would just kill Catelyn too without letting her know he's in the room. Which leads into 2. Littlefinger is *fucking obsessed* with Catelyn. His two main goals seem to be to accumulate power through chaos and to have Catelyn all for his own. If he sent the catspaw with no plan other than to kill someone important to cause chaos, then it's stupid to not tell him to kill anyone except for the one person he cares about. If he sent the catspaw with a plan to specifically kill Bran, then it's stupid to not consider that this loving mother that is extremely compassionate about her family just might be grieving at the bedside of her beloved son who is at death's door. The theory requires either Littlefinger to discard Catelyn for the chance to cause chaos, which seems extremely unlikely given how obsessed he is with her, or for Littlefinger to be stupid, and I don't like thinking that Littlefinger is stupid.

For me, the reason why the Ashford Tourney theory is more palatable than the Brightflame theory is the impact that it would have on the reader: Let’s say that the Ashford Tourney theory is proved true - for those who haven’t read Dunk & Egg, it makes no difference and Sansa marrying a Targaryen can be worked into the story naturally, while those who do know the theory feel rewarded for being attentive readers. If the Brightflame theory is proved true, then adherents to the theory will feel validated, but readers who have only read the main series will be confused, because Aerion is only mentioned in Dunk & Egg.

The thing I dislike the most about the Quentyn is alive theory is that it makes GrrM a bit of a hack writer. Ending the story with a dramatic death that is very clearly happening from the dying persons POV, Only to then turn around and say, no he's actually alive. It's like the walking dead guy hiding under the dumpster. If Jon will be resurrected he also already have a "POV dramatically dies at the end of the book, but is brought back/alive in the next book. It would feel pretty pointless if 2 (technically 3) out of 4 killed POV are brought back or fake out deaths. Death would stop having a meaning in the story and a story which has very much been about how definite consequences are.

Daenerys Dragonseed helps explain Lemongate. She could be remembering her early early childhood in Lys, a place full of Valyrian featured people and a tropical climate (lemon trees!). Viserys would have been young when his real sister died. His backers, like Willem Darry, would know the importance of having a sister for marriage alliances, and/or to help repopulate House Targaryen. So they take a Lyseni girl of the right age to be that sister after the real Dany died in infancy. Viserys may have been too young to really remember this properly, or suppressed the memory given his traumatic childhood. Or he became lost in the fantasy, especially as he not only desired to have a sister-wife like a “real” Targaryen monarch, but also projected his complicated feelings towards his dead sister (namely for killing his mother in childbirth) onto this girl he’s called his sister most of his life. The truest dramatic irony would be for Young Griff to really be a Targaryen, while Daenerys is not, and she learns this after killing Young Griff for being a pretender and a false Targaryen.

The Sansa suitor theory has one massive plot hole, there was talk about marrying her to Robert Arryn. You can say that that was never made official through a betrothal, but neither was the one with Willas Tyrell. So either you have to exclude Willas or include Sweetrobin.

Using an example from hour world. There are plenty of flood stories, but they don't have to be some single, world wide flood. While I agree that Young Griff is highly unlikely to be a Brightflame, I do like the theory that Aerion Brightflame was essentially the beta version of the Blackfyres. Aerion is mentioned in Clash, alongside the warning of "the Mummer's Dragon", and formally introduced in The Hedge Knight, whereas the Blackfyres aren't mentioned until Storm. I think it's reasonable George was planning somebody to be a false Targaryen early on, didn't like how the Brightflames panned out, and had enough room to set up the Blackfyres instead, as codified in the Sworn Sword.

The Many-Faced God being money and the Many-Faced God being a death god actually fits really well with historical Indo-European religions. Gods like Hades and Pluto [gods of the realm of the dead more than gods of death, specifically] were also associated with wealth because both of those things were associated with the earth/underground. [i.e. burial and mining] Given that the source of the Faceless Men was in the Valyrian mines, this gets interesting in a way I can't really put my finger on. Also lol death and taxes. Anyway, I think the association of death and money is 100% an on-purpose thematic thing based on real world religions.

Catspaw is a plothole if Jamie and Cersei or Mance didn't do it. Jamie and Cersei's motivation to kill Bran to keep their affair a secret, what, disappeared? There's too much at stake, they would never ever risk it, that's why they tried to kill him in the first place. And someone else just so happens to want to finish him for their own reason, that conveniently serves them? But for them, the dagger makes no sense. Mance's reason to do it would be to start a war in south so he can invade, making him a horrible character but it makes sense. Because what would be his plan after crossing the wall? All of the south would march north to stop him. Joffrey or Petyr... or Viserys doing it makes 0 sense.

He fights along side Jon in the battle beneath the wall despite only being a recruit, and shows a lot of bravery and competence. Later on, after Jon becomes Lord Commander and sends Ed away to man one of the castles, Satin becomes Jon’s steward. Other nightswatch men disapprove of Jon’s choice of steward and insult Satin for being a gay prostitute, insinuating Jon had ulterior motives for making Satin his steward and grooming him for command. There is nothing to suggest they have a relationship, but Jon repeatedly notes how beautiful Satin is, and Satin swears his oaths before the Old Gods and not the 7, presumably in honor of Jon, so they do have a bit of a connection.

The Dany Dragonseed theory has one main issue: What happened to Rhaella? If she didn't die from childbirth, what killed her? Why make up the childbirth death story?

I find it more likely that R+L=D. Rhaella was something like 42 years old AT LEAST. Once he goes south, Ned thinks about Daenerys more than he thinks about Jon. It takes six moons after KL to capture Dragonstone why, exactly? With the Tyrells/Redwynes bending the knee at Storm's End, why did Stannis have to build a fleet? Something kept the rebels from Dragonstone, and it doesn't smell right unless the weather was so atrocious at the end of winter that it simply wasn't possible to sail the short distance across Blackwater Bay from KL. Robert would have moved to get there ASAP, but he didn't? The way the timeline is described, Rhaella was newly pregnant when she fled to Dragonstone at the very end of the Rebellion. That's an awful lot of time. There are lies surrounding it, as there are lies about the lemon tree. The house with the red door sounded simple, not something you find in a garden in Braavos.
