Great Video! I never really played the 3 spears much. I am usually support. That level 5 card that refreshes items seems like so much fun.

I have just discovered this game. My highest character is only level 2. :) Loving it so far. Looking forward to unlocking Night Shroud.

While I definitely agree Perverse Edge is over-tuned, I’m not sure I agree with the generalization on single-Target non-loss Stun. The Tinkerer’s Stun shot is great utility, but doesn’t provide XP, or an Element, and is a Top action with ok range, which feels just right. Similarly, a Bottom which either lacks Range, the Element, or the Attack would feel much less amazing and be more utility. I’m curious to see how things will play with the design shift, but I do think the Single Target Stuns don’t break the game when applied sparingly.

Single target non-loss stuns at level 1 are incredibly strong and mandatory on any of the classes. They're such easy picks. You can take a look at the new Frosthaven starters to see how stun is weighted now.

@@RageBadgerGaming It's the same story I found in Darkest Dungeon as well. Having reliable stuns when you can go first and make your enemies do nothing for the turn just outweighs most other things you can be doing and kind of just lets you ignore the deck RNG for on hit effects.

Perverse Edge is ridiculous and enhancing the range on it is just a no-brainer. Plus the rolling modifiers in their perk list means you can easily end up doing an attack 4 or higher. My go-to move with the Mindthief was to enhance the range on Perverse Edge, then at level 2 take the card that grants a range 4 attack 2 immobilise. Means at the start of every scenario you can crowd control two enemies. Take a stamina potion as a starting item and then do it again on round two. Just trivialises the difficulty of the first room.

eh but you waste two frost there, I think that takeover is good as a side card in certain areas, but you mostly want to be using minds weakness on top to set up. (hitting not necessary tbh). I wil l give some advice. if you can afford it and enemies will come to you. Go late with minds weakness and so you can stun another while doing 3 to something (prob more with perks), finally use frigid and empathetic assault (hopefully with strengthen) to heal some damage you most likely took with repositioning and a strengthened 5 stun

Sun keeper- Maybe they could have rules like “this pip becomes active at lvl 7” so that they feel more like earned upgrades than obvious gold dumps. Or permanent upgrade pips just inherently cost triple a normal upgrade pip because of the obvious additional benefit Nightshroud- this class probably should have been a 6 HP that would have been terrified to get caught without his cloaking device. Also they could have added invisibility requirements to his cards or maybe need dark and wind instead of dark and any

I think that some of the most overpowered cards are attacks that target everyone in a large range (or unlimited range), like inferno. How does that look in Frosthaven? Obviously we still want area attacks, I just think that there need to be limits.

It's definitely far more limited in Frosthaven! Balance is definitely better.

There were some good ones in that list that I didn’t expect so I’ll definitely have to give them a try, some that I did, and one that I can’t believe you missed. Inferno! It’s the most broken card in the game save for a few scenarios. I suppose it’s probably stronger with a high player count, but still… room scale nuke that doesn’t burn?! It’s fantastic.

I think the only reason Spirit Ally feels so strong is in contrast to other summons. It's a loss attack 3 on the following turn, and then every turn after that it doesn't die. Spellweaver has loads of attack 3 target 3s, so the summon is only statistically better the 4th turn after it has been played. Of course that's ignoring a lot of variables. The other cards imo I definitely WANT to see in Frosthaven, but with downsides, it's the big effects that distinguish the characters from one another and make them exciting to unlock.

It's still ahead of the curve being of similar power to a level 7 Frosthaven summon. It's still above average after 3 turns. Big effects with downsides are still in. Invisible but 2 damage self or Invisible self but level 4 card. Stuns but high level. Mass disarms and non loss kills are still so OP.

This video make me very nervous about Frosthaven. I agree that some of the cards for Music Note and Three Spears are overpowered, but the rest of the cards singled out here made Gloomhaven playable for me. I thought the game was quite difficult even with those cards and it's unlikely I could have beaten it without them. If you take away reusable stuns from the Mindthief, for example, or disarm from Saw, those characters seem like they'd be unplayable. With those cards, they can sometimes beat scenarios but it's still a strong challenge. Maybe these cards are busted from the perspective of someone who is a master at the game, but I don't think that describes most players.

To counter point; the weakest Frosthaven class outperforms most of the Gloomhaven starters so the floor is raised but the ceiling has dropped. I know it's not fair to compare my own expertise to your average Gloomer but I don't think groups should fail Frosthaven because they have no level 1 non loss stuns.
