No doubt it changed things for me and others with a small home gym footprint (220sqft in my case). I would have without doubt purchased a Rogue Rack but knowing the limitations of the slinger (an afterthought solution at best) the moment I heard about the ARES I decided I'd make do with my Fitness Reality rack until the ARES was ready....now that I have my PR5000/ARES in place I'm so glad I did!!!

Something that I really like about Rep's business model is you do not save money by buying a rack compatible with the Ares and the Ares itself. You can buy the rack first, then purchase the Ares at a later time. Free shipping included on both purchases. This is what I've done and appreciated the flexibility Rep provided

If I could ask a question I bought a pr4000 rack and I am storing a bunch of equipment. I am renting a house I could set up my gym in the garage for a year with the ares. Should I wait till I’m in my permanent house or is it crazy to set up and move it ?
@GlucksGym
@GlucksGym Жыл бұрын
You'd have to just take the weight stacks off, preferably you could move the rack (without the stacks) on a trailer with the rack still together. We've done it before with my R6. You could also just take it apart, It really wouldn't be terrible and you'd figure it a plan I'm sure. I couldn't wait that long 😂

Love a good piece of engineering, especially one that allows multiple setups in a single space. And I think I'm one of the few people who would ENJOY putting it together. Unfortunately, due to my lack of a Rep rack and extreme stinginess, I don't see this in my near future. But it may be part of my dream build! (Their configuration wizard online is fun too!) Great video!
@markhalstead2386

Mine is together. Next step is tightening bolts and running the cables. I do have a couple of holes to drill through a 2x4 cross tie in my gym as it is above the crossmembers, but in the way of the cable. I put it together with the rack since I bought both new. I set the Ares base where I wanted it and then bolted four columns to it and went from there. I do intend on moving it when we move unless the buyers give me a fair price. I will just take it completely apart. It is officially my most expensive piece of equipment, eclipsing the rack itself.

I've watched this several times as we're moving to a new house with a sick detached garage which will be perfect for a home gym. I'm currently in a basement with low ceilings so I had to get a shorter rack. After watching this with several other reviews of it, we'll be getting the Ares in the new place. I'm debating getting the four post with spotter arms or going with a 6 post with safety straps. Still undecided, but this helps a lot. Thanks!

Looks like a great space saving piece for most home gym owners. That specific functional trainer you have with 4:1 ratio, is going to be better for rehab purposes and speed training compared to the Ares. Mine is a 2:1 ratio with 160 lb stack so wish that was heavier but I’d never sell it.

Really cool concept and it has useful applications. I personally have adequate space for a full and half rack, functional trainer, and separate lat/row. However, this would still be a nice replacement for even just the functional trainer since you still gain nice flexibility (ex: another place to use rack attachments). The need to bolt the 4 post version is one of the biggest downsides IMO. Cheers

Great review. These are great, but not the game changer so many seem to think as competitors have had these systems for years. REP is just the first of the big 3 to produce one, so many people were unaware of their existence until now. If I was going to spend this much, I'd probably just go spend a bit more on Prime's Prodigy HLP selectorized rack. Still, if you have the space I think the standalone options are still a better choice, especially if you have more than 1 person at a time working out in the gym.

4:1 ration on the stacks for your Lifefitness FT sounds good and is impressive. I have a cybex bravo 450 tall model 2:1.. It has a unique design and a adjustable stability pad I don't see the Ares replacing it completely it's just too versatile. It could replace some of what that FT does but not all... having a heavy duty big weight stack rack FT combo is very compelling...

The Prodigy has some cool features, but disagree. Prodigy is only a half rack, Ares can be used in a full rack setup. In that 4-post setup Gluck has, it's half the price AND has that unilateral movement you can't do on the Prodigy.
@bulaclacj
@bulaclacj Жыл бұрын
@@rjm8373 you’re right, the Ares can be a full rack and the prodigy can’t do that. I’m not completely sure what you mean about unilateral movement but the prodigy has a 2:1 and a 1:1 ratio pulls on each side so either side can do heavy lat pulldowns or you can connect them to get 700lbs of resistance.

Thar Rep Ares double stack 315 lb trainer looks excellent. Besides price, the negatives are minimal. Huge variety of exercise selection, much safer than plates, cable exercises are easier on the joints, and space saving. Changing weight amounts is much faster and easier than with plates. You could save a lot of money by buying less, or no barbells and plates. I don't mind the more complex install, as this is a more complex piece of equipment. BTW when you row you are pulling slightly upward and slightly shrugging, working out a bit more traps and a bit less of lats. For more lat activation, row lower.

Debating between ares and droping in my rhino into rack to condense a little bit in home gym.. i have selectorized lat pull down, selectorise ft, rhino belt squat, titan x3 wall rack, ir sauna, echo rogue bike etc... Waiting for isolator too. I tought about combining all the pieces into ares but i dont know if i will like it since it will be hard for my wife and i to workout togueter. We do different workouts. Also i like to superset a lot and dont wanna be moving all kinds of stuff around for the next exercise. Somebody else told me its hard to supperset in ares🙄🙄

Rep fitness here in Australia is crazy expensive. This rack costs about $6000 excluding shipping and doesn't include the rack. Anyone on here from Australia that has a good alternative that's the same design? The ForceUSA one is similar I know but can't think of any others.

Pretty bummed that you wont be reviewing the Athena.

Trying to get one but not sure I can justify the price tag. The Ares they sent me but the Athena we'd have to buy and it's a lot for a small channel.

I appreciate this review and you are lucky to have received the REP Ares system. It is difficult to afford for the common person. On another note, what is so expensive in recording a video and uploading it?
@GlucksGym
@GlucksGym Жыл бұрын
There's nothing inherently expensive about recording a video and uploading it but the camera, software, and tech can get expensive. The real expense with a channel like this for a smaller channel like mine is we purchase a lot of the gym equipment ourselves for the reviews so it really adds up.

@@GlucksGym @bobbond8232 No, the real expense is the loss of income from the time spent on the channel recording, editing, uploading, recording equipment, creating ideas for content, searching for new gear, buying new gear, assembling new gear, running social media channels, answering questions, gong to events, answering emails, building out affiliate links, updating links, checking to make sure links are working, checking anylitics, key working, website... It is easier to get a good paying job and invest in SPY long-term. If, getting rich so you buy whatever you want is the goal. But, I am an investor so I look at time as my most valuable asset and the fastest way to wealth IS NOT KZbin unless you are really lucky and become an anomaly. I don't like luck, I like results that I have the majority control of. Thanks for the video bro.

Thanks, good point on the safety squat bar not working out. I have (getting) the Apollo so not sure this will fit, but what’s the alternative for squats?
@DStephens2488

Get some chains for your lat pulldown. It’ll lower the bar so you can reach it and still have normal range of motion during the movement.

How easy is it to disassemble? I wanted to get one with the PR-5000 but will be moving in the next two years. Wondering how difficult it is to take apart everything

if you are moving locally you can just remove the weight plates and grab a buddy to load it all in the back of a truck. Then its just the rack alone and the weights alone.

@@jasonalbert530 I mean, its all about time then. You do not have to break it down as far as it was when you buy it. So it could be taken down far enough for Haul packing and wrapped in blankets in about an hour.
