As usual, what a fantastic presentation Dr Osborne ! How I wished doctors/ GP's ... could watch and learn from you to stop the countless misdiagnoses which, lead to so much misery due to their lack of knowledge and lack of curiosity and problem-solving skills. One thing I wished you had covered is functional B12 deficiency ( dismissed by doctors even neurologists!) where active serum B12 is very high -without supplementation- yet all deficiency symptoms are present. Thank you for being a true doctor in its full and true sense ( docere= to teach) and for being such a caring, decent and honest human being. Blessings to you ❤

Several people cannot deal with methylated B vitamins, for example those who are very slow COMT. They should take hydroxy and adenosyl B12, and folinic acid (not folic acid!). Those get converted to the methylated form in the body, but this takes longer and you will feel better.

I have severe Crohns and I can’t absorb vitamins correctly ( I’ve had a bowel resection). My B-12 was so low that I had to have a shot daily for a week, then every week,then once a month. I get cyancobalamin from my doctor, but I know it’s synthetic. I used to have an endocrinologist,but Kaiser is EXTREMELY unhelpful when it comes to checking my levels.😢

Cyanocobalamin is a very poor form of B12. Get the Methylcobalamine. It is also the injectable form as the Dr tells you here. Another reason is the Cyano- group contains a highly reactive triple bond. My experience is using this type of chemical is that it gloms on to too many things and forms tarlike substances. You may be able to get over the counter methylcobalamine but it may have sucralose in it. That is why I mail order it from Life Extension. I also get benfotiamine B1, and, Pyraidoxal 5' phosphate B6, from them. These are very bio-active forms that work together.
@larrytischler5704 күн бұрын
Take the Methylcobalamine sublingual. It is much more available than swallowing or chewing the tabs. I take two 500mcg tabs two times day and probably should take more, but I am getting improvements in my neuropathy with this dosage.

@marylawilson46873 күн бұрын
@kristiemarsh49 You absolutely need to take the Methylcobalamine form and the strongest one you can get. I take 2,000 mcg. Taking the Cyanoconalamin is totally useless because your intrinsic factor in your stomach is not working, hence unable to convert the Cyanoconalamin into the usable form. If you get a high reading for b12 later, it doesn't matter because it's non-toxic and it doesn't last long in the body

What's the harm in just trying B12? The under tongue type will absorb. I take it and my blood B12 was off the scale. 5000 or 10000 microg. readily available.

*OUTLINE OF Vitamin B12 LECTURE* - A Vital Nutrient for Health Introduction Vitamin B12, also known as cobalamin, is a water-soluble vitamin essential for various bodily functions. It plays a crucial role in DNA synthesis, red blood cell formation, neurological health, and energy production. This article explores the importance of Vitamin B12, the impact of its deficiency, and how it can aid in treating specific health conditions. The Role of Vitamin B12 in the Body 1. Energy Production Vitamin B12 is a cofactor in the metabolic pathway that converts methylmalonyl-CoA to succinyl-CoA, an essential step in the production of cellular energy. 2. DNA Synthesis and Cell Replication B12 works with folate to synthesize DNA, a vital process for producing new cells, especially in high-turnover tissues like the gastrointestinal tract and bone marrow. 3. Neurological Function Vitamin B12 is involved in the synthesis of myelin, the protective coating around nerves, and neurotransmitters that support cognitive health. 4. Red Blood Cell Formation B12 ensures proper development of red blood cells. Without it, cells become large (macrocytic anemia) and fail to transport oxygen efficiently. Vitamin B12 Deficiency: Causes and Symptoms Causes: • Dietary Deficiency: Common in vegans and vegetarians. • Malabsorption: Conditions like pernicious anemia, atrophic gastritis, and Crohn’s disease impair B12 absorption. • Increased Demand: Pregnancy and growth spurts require higher B12 intake. Symptoms: • Fatigue, weakness, and shortness of breath. • Neurological symptoms such as memory loss, confusion, and balance issues. • Megaloblastic anemia, characterized by large, immature red blood cells. Clinical Applications of Vitamin B12 Autism Studies indicate that methylcobalamin injections can improve symptoms in children with autism, likely due to enhanced methylation capacity and metabolic support. Multiple Sclerosis (MS) B12 supplementation has shown potential in improving the quality of life for MS patients. In some cases, B12 deficiency mimics MS, making proper diagnosis critical. Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) High-dose B12 treatments slow functional decline in ALS patients, offering a glimmer of hope in managing this progressive disease. Cardiovascular and Cognitive Health Elevated homocysteine levels, a byproduct of B12 deficiency, are linked to heart disease, stroke, and dementia. Adequate B12 intake reduces these risks. Pregnancy Pregnant women require sufficient B12 to prevent neural tube defects and support rapid fetal growth and development. Testing and Treating Deficiency Testing • Homocysteine and Methylmalonic Acid Levels: Elevated levels indicate B12 deficiency. • Complete Blood Count (CBC): Macrocytosis (large red blood cells) is a hallmark of B12 deficiency. Treatment • Dietary Sources: Meat, fish, dairy, and fortified foods. • Supplements: Oral B12 or sublingual tablets. • Injections: For severe deficiency or malabsorption issues. Preventive Measures 1. Regular Testing: Annual blood tests, including homocysteine and B12 levels. 2. Balanced Diet: Include B12-rich foods, especially for vegetarians and vegans. 3. Awareness During Pregnancy: Pregnant women should monitor B12 levels to ensure fetal health. Conclusion Vitamin B12 is indispensable for overall health and well-being. Its deficiency can mimic and exacerbate various conditions, from cognitive decline to degenerative diseases. By understanding its critical roles and ensuring adequate intake, individuals can prevent long-term health complications and enhance their quality of life.

Have you noticed that your head is in front of your body, the stress in your back is turning you into a hunch back. 20 Test Questions with Answers Based on the Video 1. What is the biochemical role of vitamin B12 in energy production? Answer: Vitamin B12 converts methylmalonyl-CoA to succinyl-CoA, a step essential for cellular energy production. 2. What condition is caused by a lack of B12 in red blood cell formation? Answer: Macrocytic (megaloblastic) anemia, where red blood cells are abnormally large and inefficient at carrying oxygen. 3. Which type of B12 supplementation improved symptoms in children with autism? Answer: Injectable methylcobalamin. 4. What is the folate trap, and how does it relate to B12 deficiency? Answer: The folate trap occurs when folate becomes metabolically inactive due to a lack of B12, leading to symptoms similar to folate deficiency. 5. How does B12 deficiency contribute to neurological damage? Answer: It causes an accumulation of methylmalonic acid, leading to nerve damage and demyelination. 6.
