"Why didnt they just run away?" The dumbest, most ignorant response ever. Why dont abused housewives simply leave? Why dont they get a divorce? BECAUSE YEARS OF PSYCHOLOGICAL ABUSE TRAINS THEM NOT TO. IT'S BRAINWASHING VICTIMS TO BELIEVE THERE IS NO PLACE TO RUN, THAT THEY CANT SURVIVE WITHOUT THEIR ABUSERS. Victim blaming is alive and well.

Then, its up to them to prove they were abused, and if they were, the charge should be manslaughter, not murder. It's the same idea if someone constantly antagonizes you at a bar, and you guys get in a fight and you end up killing him in the fight, it is legally manslaughter, not murder. The fact that even Jose sisters said on trial he always was violent and rude with his kids, says everything. 52 testimonies on trial and all of them said they saw how Jose and Kitty were always crazy and violent not only with their own kids. Everybody knew how awful was that life for the brothers, but everybody was scared of the parents. The parents were extremely rich and powerful, not much you could do to them. The final straw was definitely the fact that José changed his mind when Erik was 18 and told him he couldn't leave for college like Lyle did and he had to stay home (which we all know why), that's when it all came crumbling down that was Erik's last hope of leaving it behind, that was what started him telling Lyle the ab*se was still going on, that's when they had that last big fight with the parent where the mom admitted to knowing and not caring and a few days later they k*lled them. People thinking the brothers could run away or go to the cops back in the 90s are absurd, the dad had powerful people and lots of resources to prevent him going down

Jose held a rambo knife to their throats during his regular drilling sessions during which he would ask " what will happen if you tell? " and Erik would have to answer " you will kill me" This would be done usually when the boy was naked after being anally or orally raped , in front of a mirror. We are talking about a psych operation worse than caught military spies might experience. this Jose was a piece of work! They werent adults , they were kids. The people who did these things to them werent enemy soldiers, they were their parents. The motive was very likely that they were afraid for their lives. I doubt money was such a big deal to people who grew up with money.Reckon they just wanted the hell to end. Somehow most.people.seem to have not heard what kitty did in the bedroom. Youll find that by watching the first trial. Both parents were cruel , both caused incredible suffering . Both molested them sexually.

YES! I hate that everyone uses the word molested, in their trial & even NOW in today’s society! Journalists/reporters should know better & call it what it is for goodnesses sakes! Like what? They were raped! Molesting was involved at the early stages when they were small children. Then quickly it went to rape, starting with oral rape! From small children onwards. Erik for even longer. These poor guys, I’m sickened for both men, as defenceless children, teens & now their whole lives being abused because of falling through the cracks from birth to NOW! It hurts my heart & mind how obvious it all is during their 1st trial. (Including physical violence, emotional abuse & neglect by both parents). I honestly can’t grasp how well they actually handled everything. Up until they broke…but then even since. They are actually so strong to deal with all the injustices their whole lives. It’s so clear that murder is not naturally in their nature when you listen to them over the years, including the trial. It was self defence after a life time of living in an insane home in fear & hopelessness. Abuse changes the brain. They wish they’d made a different choice but they didn’t know what else to do at that time. They had no help, especially in those days. I wish they’d been believed, helped & gotten out with time served decades ago. I just want to hug them. I wish them peace, support & freedom.

Yes, so interesting that this letter that was supposedly written 8 months before the murder is being labeled by some as proof that they were abused. Supposedly an 18 year old man wrote this important letter, but the cousin didn't bring it up when he testified? He kept the letter and what forgot about it while testifying in a murder trail. There is no evidence of sexual abuse. They were not even held captive in their house while they "feared" that their parents would kill them at any moment. They drove 2 hours to buy guns to murder their parents. They were able to move freely. When interviewed after sentencing, they said they wished they could take back the murders. If they honestly believed their parents deserved death for what they did to them and that killing them was their only way out, then they would have said they didn't regret it...they regret getting caught. I believe they actually thought they could get away with it, and if not for Erik telling his therapist that they murdered their parents, they may have.

I haven't watched the show but I have watched the documentary and THEY SHOULD BE FREED they did their time and they don't deserve life in prison at all. The amount of times I teared up while watching that documentary is actually insane? There is a bunch of evidence so fingers crossed they'll be freed soon.

@@danimg2764 murder is not an excuse. I couldn't get away with killing my husband because he was abusive and get away with it.
