The bike industry needs to sell bikes to make money, it's a business after all. So this is actually a good idea, more trails more people riding, more bikes being sold (and more people needing replacement parts 😅). Why don't companies do this?

Agreed
@davidhoneycutt24953 күн бұрын
When a bike company invests in tech, it belongs to them only and helps them compete. When they invest in trails it belongs to everyone. While this is great, if company A invests in the trails and company B invests in bikes, company B’s bike’s are better and they still get the benefits of the trails. If bike riders invest in our own trails then we have more ownership. It costs the same, just depends on what path the money takes? Direct from the bikers or through a bunch of companies.

Anna, WheelTop do a wireless transmission upgrade. It'sthe rear shifter and rear mech. You can the use the rest of your current drivetrain. You don't even need to replace it if you decide to change the number of gears your running. As the WHEELTOP EDS-OX YQ MTB can rung 3 to 14 speed. It has 3 cage lengths 58mm, 75mm, 93mm. Depending on how close the ratios are. If you want to change ratio. You can just buy a new cage and change it. You use an app to set the number of sprockets your using. Rotor have a 13 speed mountain bike gearing. In fact. They had it before Campagnolo snd SRAM. The also have a choice of hydraulic and now wireless. As the WheelTop now owns a majority stake in Rotor Bicycle Components.

I agree that most bikes from car companies are pretty poor, but I have a Porsche FS from 1998 which was made by the high end Votec brand in Stuttgart. It was an alloy fully weighing 11.5 kg (very light for the time) and the geometry was tweaked by a group of engineers at Porsche who were ardent MTB riders. It pedals well without bobbing and, whilst the head angle is steep, it’s agile without being too nervous. The frame has some beautiful CnC’d bits, like some of the new upscale alloy bikes you showed in the video. I knew my colleagues were doing this and vowed to buy one when they became available. Even with my company discount the cost was high, but I have had 20-odd years of fun from my FS. I have a modern geometry 29” Rocky in the USA, but still enjoy riding the old Porker.

The bicycle industry has fallen into the same trap that doomed the automotive industry during its heyday: prioritizing planned obsolescence and profit over accessibility and durability. What once were simple, repairable machines are now proprietary, overcomplicated systems that alienate riders. Much like Detroit’s gas-guzzlers of the past, the industry is flooding the market with high-margin carbon bikes and trendy gravel models while ignoring the growing need for durable, affordable commuters. The pandemic only amplified these failures. Instead of rising to meet unprecedented demand, manufacturers delivered inflated prices, dwindling quality, and incompatible parts-all while claiming to “redefine cycling.” Independent shops suffered while corporate brands cashed in, leaving a glut of overpriced bikes no one asked for while everyday riders scrounged for secondhand alternatives. Bikes were once symbols of simplicity and ingenuity, but today’s industry feels more like a cynical cash grab. Cycling deserves better, and if the next generation of riders demands it, maybe it can be that symbol of freedom again.

Definitely less bikes more adjustability is the answer. There's enough different brands never mind different products in the brands.
@oterocanyon42242 күн бұрын
Adjustability in bikes is ecologically sound. Manufacturers have not done the environment any favors by offering so many bikes with categories that are so easily blurred. Down country versus XC versus Trail versus Enduro versus Slopestyle versus the environment. Which category loses? A lightweight fully rigid steel vintage mountain bike is still a relevant choice for durable off-road utility. It might also be a better choice in terms of environmental impact than a modern carbon bike with the associated toxic production waste. Don't get me wrong I love modern bikes too but I am not kidding myself about the environmental impact of heavy, fast long travel carbon ebikes both on the trail and in an industrial production environment.

Seems lots of folk are buying older cars which are cheaper to buy and maintain. Professional mechanics are reporting increasing time / difficulty to carry out even some basic jobs; most home mechanics, no chance.So, IMHO, bring on the cycling tech but have bikes available for those of us wanting a more raw experience.
