GMC & Chevy Load Adjusting Shock Install (overload shocks!)

I've always been curious how the overload shocks would perform on my GMC Sierra 3500 crew cab, long bed, dually so today is the day we find out! There are a few challenges to overcome when you are installing an overload shock such as the additional spring tension that requires additional tools to get the job done. In this video I'll show you how to do this install as well as take you for the first ride along to see how they perform in a real world situation.

I had a 72 Chevy camper special , it had air bag overloads , there was an air chuck on the (extendable) bumper... psssssttt , truck goes up . Super cool. MY grandfather ordered that truck from Wrangell and picked it up in Seattle. I got it from Fox Island (puget sound) with 3" of moss on it , drove it that way for a month. I loved that truck... even the quadrajet I had to beat on occasionally. Party on the Rock !

Ah hell yeah, I love those old camper specials. They had some truly cool innovations for truck and camper builds back then. My setup looks like it has air bags but those are actually solid rubber. Not nearly as good of a ride as air bags but also there is zero sag with the camper loaded and it handles corners like a champ!

@@KooshdaakaaGarage yeah , that truck handled like a porche, I had a 70 gmc custom ,built. It would smoke posi for 200 feet and had 60 gallons worth fuel tanks . Great way to deliver gas.

You had a set on your Ranger? Like the OG 1970s full sized Ranger or the mini truck version? I'd say if you had them on either one then you'll probably be ok with them on a 2500 :) They are still working great on my ole dually/camper combo.

Bean using them for over 25 years now. they definitely work good if your going to use your truck as a truck .when i started using them they cost $23 eash

I'm thinking about putting those same shocks on my Silverado at Napa for $157 a pair are they worth it or not I hate to have to go through the work it was not going to do me any good

So far so good on my end. As you probably seen in the video, I have a full time camper on the back of my truck. What I've noticed so far is that the truck is more stable around corners, the camper doesn't bounce around quite as much when I'm inside the camper, and the overall lift of the truck is up 1/4" with these shocks on. Other reports say when the truck is unloaded that the truck is lifted up to 2". I've taken it off roading quite a few times and they perform well with the camper on. Heading out for a 2 month long overlanding trip on some old logging roads this summer so I'll put them through hell and probably make a review video afterwards. Thanks!

I haven't seen anything that says "this will fit your 2500/3500" but I have come across some that looks like it would fit but would still be a gamble. If I can find the right ones I'll definitely make a video of it

I have a 2006 2500hd I was just looking at those shocks too wondering if I should go that route for my Travel trailer my shocks Are shot I need to replace them. You recommend those? My truck is just level stock height

Absolutely recommend these. So in the description of the video I put links to two options, the one that I installed was for a 1500, the other link is for the 2500. I think I mentioned in the video that I originally bought the ones for my Chevy 1500 that I no longer have so I decided to see if they worked on my 3500. If I were to do it over I'd get the 2500 for the extra travel but honestly, I have taken my truck & camper off roading & camping quite a bit since I put them on and they work great! Excellent stabilization , good shock recovery, not bouncy, and relatively smooth considering I have a 1 ton.

@@KooshdaakaaGarage good looking out, I noticed my truck started to sag more the third time I connect the trailer, and also my tires are showing signs too that I have bad shocks all around. But I know forsure I want Shocks with spring support in the rear. I’m going to order these this week. I got my camping trip mid Feb. most def give you a follow up on how it does with a 30 foot
