Correction: Virginia woods refers to the literal woods of Virginia, thistles refers to a promise god made Adam for eating the forbidden fruit in the Bible. I’m not an expert of this film, I just got the reference. He is complaining about having to work his land as foretold in the book of Genesis.

@xXFangRideXx3 жыл бұрын
shockingly deep for the movie where a goblin turns on a stove
@scottsmith79693 жыл бұрын
@@xXFangRideXx Actually no, it’s not deep. I think it was an intentional slight against Christians and southerners. The people making the film didn’t wade into the significance or meaning of the biblical text, they just want to portray Christianity as something only an idiot would believe and put that in their crappy movie. Which is ironic in America since the abolition of slavery was founded on the idea that all men are equal under god, (for if men are not born with equal moral value, and not granted right by they’re creator why shouldn’t you enslave them? Especially if it improves their lives? This idea didn’t just end slavery, it ended the rule of kings!) and it was the southern states that rejected that view. So they show a man from the south, detestably stupid, have him quote a Bible verse and act as if, thats how life is. They conflated two things they didn’t like, neither of which they understood , showed a depiction which made them feel righteous, (because they were ignorant of reality) and wanted to rub other peoples faces in the mess they believe. This mentality is everywhere if you look for it. It’s not a mind set I would describe as deep. It is shallow, base, self serving, ignorant and most of all arrogant.

VHS home cameras have been around a LOT longer than 1985. My friends and I used them. ALSO those are not mullets unless they're not in a ponytail. I had the same hair in the early 90's except I had a "surfer" cut in the front(the party was, in fact, in the back...but NOT a mullet!).
