Yes, at the end the goblin should be gone after you countered the grenade, as the sacrifice is part of the casting cost. Luckily it didn't change the result of the game. I guess I just threw it down thinking I won the game there and got sloppy.

funny to see the positive side of this against a boomerang, it always made me upset it worked this way cuz I would lose my dude even if it got countered.

@@goombajenkins4317 Another positive side is that you can fork your grenade to deal another 5 damage without sacrificing another goblin.

Fun games none the less! Goblins are a difficult matchup to play against. I like flood and fast flood in sideboard when playing mono blue 💧🔥

This was a great match up, very nostalgic. Goblin grenade is so spicy, people never used to expect it. Boomerangs I think would have been better off as something else, but not much you can do against a deck like this when it gets a good hand!

My kind of matches these, two tribal decks battling it out, thanks for showing them! However, SPOILER : You'd have had a much better chance if you'd dared to make it an actual Merfolk deck! :) Vodalian Knights, Merfolk Assassins and 1 or 2 War Machines and Seasingers, combined with phantasmal terrains and Unstable Mutations would have made it so much faster. That's why I liked the Goblin deck so much, because it was actually a Goblin deck: no Ball Lightnings or other creature types to make it better, very nicely done!

A note to your parting commentary, in casual games like this the Elemental Blasts made for more boring games, IMHO. In a tournament setting sure, but just some friendly match ups more creative sideboarding would have been neat.

@@TimmytheSorcerer @Timmy the Sorcerer Probably some combination of Merfolk of the Pearl Trident,, Prodigal Sorcerer, Seasinger, and/or Voladian Knight I would probably have gone deeper on Merfolk, swapping out the 4 Boomerang for 4 Merfolk of the Pearl Trident, then possibly taking out 2-4 Flying Men & 0-1 Psionic Blast/0-1 Counterspell for 2 Voladian Knight & 2 Prodigal Sorcerer or 2 Seasinger, 3 Phantasmal Terrain. (2-4 Old Man of the Sea could also be a consideration, if you have them...) Overall in the 3 games it felt as though you were creature-light and (permanent) answer-light, but maybe it was just your draws and/or your opponents deck. Maybe this match-up is just a bad one for your deck?

The problem with relaying too heavily on merfolk is that the Lords usually get killed pretty quickly against these decks 😂 but teah timmies would’ve been golden in this match up

I’m surprised you didn’t choose to run flying men AND merfolk of the Pearl trident.

The reason I didn’t is because of the Lords and the fact they get killed as soon as they hit the board. So I chose for some more fire power (4psi) to make sure I could kill his king and I was hoping to use the boomerang to safe my lords and/or bounce his goblins if he would cast a blood lust. Alas, I got kicked in the **** pretty hard so my plans didn’t work 🤷‍♂️ I didn’t opt for an unstable because of the possible 2 for 1 with the bolts.

@@TimmytheSorcerer thanks! Looking through Scryfall I really like vodalian knights and soldiers too. Also forgot about mana drain. Assassins and barge might be better in SB or something idk. It’s so fun to make tribal decks, even with the limited OS card pool. Cheers bro

Sorry to say but Goblins are always superior to Merfolk but it was alot of fun to watch this classic old school match up
