I enjoyed the true story I read online a year or so ago.... I man was shot driving by a robbery, shot by a wayward bullet. He was able to drive himself to the hospital where he had emergency surgery. He survived but spent a few weeks in the hospital. When he returned to work, coworkers asked him about the whole event. The man smiled and stated that God must have been watching over him given that if the bullet had been just an inch higher, it would have hit his heart and killed him. As one of his coworkers later said, "If it were me shot like that, and if I were to believe that a god was involved, I would have thought that God was mad at me. God wouldn't have been so angry with me that he wanted me killed, but he was sufficiently angry at me to want me shot. If he were happy with me, the bullet would have missed me entirely."

Just recently I became an Atheist, and I wanna say; thank you. I was having doubts about my religion and I was conflicted between wanting to stay but not really believing anymore and your videos helped ease my mind because my fear is that I'll be ostracized by both my family and friends. I am currently hiding in the closet, my family being a Christian family and my friends also being Christian. I occasionally hint that I'm not a religious person anymore by asking questions about God to my family but their response is always the same; "Those without faith can never prosper" or "Don't doubt" and something along the lines of something about the devil. I don't just drop hints to all my friends, I only drop hints to my friends I am closest with and I know I can trust and I feel more comfortable with, they don't preach to me about believing and all the "things a Christian must do to be close to God". I also just drop hints as jokes like; "I don't really listen well to my parents, I've been told to wake up for church but.... I overslept." (I overslept on purpose) They'd tell me church is important but we'd both back off then, more so me than them because I don't wanna push it then we'd move on to another conversation that is more lighthearted and joyful. I hope one day I'll be able to come out, I don't wanna live the rest of my life hiding in the closet and I hope when I do I'll still have them in my life without a negative stigma between us

I'm seeing things shared online from friends and family thanking God, and I'm thinking to myself that he doesn't deserve our thanks if he is the one who caused this. I understand people falling on their beliefs in times of crisis for comfort, but we can't rely on God, and by your logic the same God who caused this, we need to do something to help each other. Luckily I am seeing a lot of that. Houston has been putting aside all politics, religion, and prejudices to help each other out and it is beautiful. This tragedy is uniting everyone and it is truly beautiful. It's a shame it takes a disaster to create this kind of unity. Thank you for this video, it really means a lot.

@avam32453 жыл бұрын
Hello! I am still Christian, and while I really think my comment back then wasn’t very good, I do disagree with your point just now. I don’t think a God or deity, from any religion, has the same values a human does, meaning Humans view love, life, and everything pretty much differently than an all powerful God/deity/supernatural being do. We are not held to the same laws, a God does not have to be. In Christianity, God is all knowing, he knows the future, the past, our innermost thoughts, everything. If a man dies, God knows the future outcome from that fate, maybe he died and another person who was dying was able to get a vital organ from him, and that person went on to be a doctor snd saved thousands of lives, etc. God sees the result of everything. Sin plays the biggest part meaning that because he gave man free will, and they chose sin and worldly temporary pleasures, the result of that is darkness and consequences. God does not interfere with our free will because he doesn’t have to. There is no other “god” who shows the love and mercy that Yahweh does, as no other God would humble himself as a man on earth and die for the many who cheered as he was crucified.

Very True hemant! This whole concept of an interventionist god just does not make any sense at all. The most weird concept probably is the one held by Jehovah's Witness which believe he cares for people slaving for the watchtower corp. by miraculously providing cash or bags of food, but seems not to care about all those victims of child molestation such as those uncovered by the Australia Royal Comission. Your channel is really helpful for me seeking to reestablish my worldview realizing I was raised in a cult!

Filling the Bookshelf The Archbishop of Adelaide (Australia) wrote a letter a few months ago to be read to people in church. Frankly, it sounded like spin written by a lawyer. My dad got up, lost his shit in the middle of the mass and wouldn't let them finish reading it when they tried it at his mass. He's 6 foot and built like a brick so nobody was brave enough to take him on. He got a lot of praise from like minded parishioners after the mass. The fact that he's a devout Catholic drives me crazy but that day... I was proud of him.

Filling the Bookshelf I once met a senior Jehovah Witness elder. I met him because his son was dating my mum, much to my despair. I rarely saw his dad, the elder, because (I suspect) he had disfellowshipped his son. And it's not hard to see why. To think, a JW elder ended up having a drug using, beer drinking, coffee drinking, birthday celebrating, tattoo covered, blood receiving, significant criminal record holding, hot headed asshole for a son. Oh, the irony... Lmfao.

Hemant, you are speaking what I was thinking every time I read about the destruction in the news, there was inevitably some pictures of someone on the social network who says that his or her "thoughts and prayers are with them". And although most people see this as a nice gesture, I have to confess, it strikes me as a very cheap (in every meaning) cop-out of anything. Prayers won't help a bit and won't bring this people anything, but it is cheap and lazy. Donating just 10$ is indefinitely more helpful and would bring just one single person much more than prayers from thousands, but then, it cost 10$, therefore, let's just pray :-( I'm not proud nor being ashamed of being an atheist, but I'm donating! Sad I can't do any more, but this is the situation where I feel MUCH, MUCH better, more humane, more compassionate and even more moral by donating than by saying "oh, those poor people, I pray for them. (There, I did my part, stop bothering me, bye...)"

I have diabeetus Because He sent his son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins and so when people don’t believe that and just believe He was a prophet or something, God gets angry and sends them to Hell. He doesn’t like doing it but he has to unless they confess their sins and believe in Him and His Son.

I wrote a story once, never shared it, but it's about the "Invisible Parents". To sum it up... what kind of "Father" or "Parent" would never show his or her's existence and insist you believe that they do exist or you'll be punished, and swore these parents loved you more than anyone could ever love you and they couldn't speak to you or visit you because they were too perfect to do so and only when you become as perfect as they are, that then you are allowed to live with them. What kind of parents would give birth to a child, have him humiliated and beaten to a pulp and die, to come back to life so this brother could save your wretched wicked soul? What kind of parents would that be? If we are supposed to be so much like God, who is supposed to be our heavenly father....if we are so much like him, why can't he show his face then? Christians will answer this in thee most common level they know. I don't fault them because I was one at one time, but.. I just could not fathom a God who loved us so much but was so void and really.. in retrospect, abandoned us. But.. I don't believe there is such a being. I believe.. and I don't know it all. but what makes more sense to me is that we are animals, and we are not any more unique than any plant life force or animal life force in the world. We all start out as an atom, a source of energy, and we grow into whatever forms we take on. I can't go into a full blown explanation but..however, I did investigate the truth about Jesus and it's all so simple.. the catholic church, the inventors of Christianity, and the starters of most all wars, They invented the man from a Jewish man who believed he was the messiah. It all evolved around Caesar the Great. Who's statue ended up in every public building including the Catholic Church, and that statue eventually ended up a statue of Jesus. Hence, the thorny crowns, the gown, then look at the statue of Caesar. I believe in Science..it just makes more sense.

I don't believe that this will change your views, but seriously, can't you stop judging us for believing in God, when most of you believe an explosion created Millions, and billions of galaxies, and stars, and planets! Simply impossible! So I'm sticking with God, thank you very much.

By that logic, do parents have the right to kill their children at any time? Do bridge engineers have the right to blow up the bridge they built at any time? What about builders, can they destroy what they built at any time? Also, the Big Bang was not an explosion.
