Looks really cool. One thing I'd change for future uploads is that you don't render cinemascope bars into to file but rather "crop" the resolution to 2,35:1. Every widescreen user (like me) will thank you for that :) in 4K UHD that means instead of 3840x2160 it should be roughly cropped to 3840x1600
@Maarten-Nauta Жыл бұрын
Thanks!, and I know, but sadly the showcase/breakdown bits were all in regular 1080p, so the whole video had to be 16:9 even though the render itself was cinemascope.

mate, what have you done??? this is mind blowing.. especially those distant trees. How you did them? cause i cant imagine there high poly trees you've shown in the preview spinning. And mountains.. they are amazing, reminds me of Pyrenees, but with snow on top. They brought back good memories about hiking i've done there, thanks for that!
@Maarten-Nauta Жыл бұрын
kzbin.info/www/bejne/inzUn4Rpq72NaZI&ab_channel=MaartenNauta here this will help you to imagine ;) When you instance you can basically use infinite amounts of a single object, to the computer there is no difference between 10 or 1 million of the same, as it only has to load 1 item onto its memory. You can instance an object 1 by 1 using 'Alt+D' or you can instance many thousands using geonodes or in my case 'Geo-Scatter'. All you need to do is manage your viewport. You'll notice all my trees are bounding boxes in the viewport, and I hide layers in the viewport visibility etc. And you are very close, I was aiming my mountains to be southern Switzerland, near the Matterhorn. So Pyrenees is not far off!

very cool render. I found Lorenzo Lanfranconi's art recently and think it is very inspiring indeed, did you take inspiration from a specific work or from his art in general? Are the trees all geometry or more like image textures. like completely or the leaf?

Hey I have a fulll tutorial video on how I put this scene together that answers all your questions!
@TripTilt Жыл бұрын
@@Maarten-Nauta yeah, I found it after writing the comment :) iNaturalist seems very useful. And the other lanfranconi artwork in your moodboard is one of my faves from him, but I somehow missed the one you based the render on. Keep it up! :)

How long does it take to make something like this, on average? From concept to completion? This is STUNNING work
@Maarten-Nauta Жыл бұрын
Depends how well you are prepared. If you are very sure of the image you want to make then it can be quite fast, 1-2 weeks. But if you are playing around with the concept while creating you can easily bump up the time to 2 months. Pre-production is key in time sensitive projects!

just one question : how much VRAM did this occupy?
@Maarten-Nauta Жыл бұрын
I only have a 3060Ti which has 8Gb of VRAM. So with proper optimization and cleanup I was able to render this out while also maxing out that 8Gb of VRAM haha!

THIS IS IMPRESSIVE. was this rendered on a gpu? cuz I tried rendering a shot like this and ran out of memory (rtx 3080)

Probably but with lower res plants and lots of LODs for distant objects. Possible but takes more time to make sure itll actually run smoothly
