Toho gave the go ahead to Emmerich and he's team tho. Infact they even kept in contact with Tristar, they knew how everthing was going to go down. They could have stopped it at any time but no. All this scene proves is that Toho is a horrible discison maker. You cant regret something as big as this, you really cant. Espeiclly if you had the full picture of what was going on. Toho should take some responsibility for 1998 if they hated it so much. Its not like this was a mistake, they knew everything. It's certainly beats that '98 tuna-fish-headed, elephant-tooting, chicken-legged, no-nuclear-breath-having, no-missile-withstanding, from-confrontation-running excuse of a kaiju. On it's own, the creature is interesting, but as a 'Godzilla' movie, it's the most unfaithful adaptation recent history has seen. The connection is in fact so weak that it might as well could've been a remake of The Beast From 20.000 Fathoms and still would've worked. In the words of James Rolfe: "They were interested in the name and not the actual character." People who complain about his head being small of his body being chunky have obviously little knowledge of and/or appreciation for the history of this creature.

But once the movie was out and the fans and Toho were dissappointed, Toho waited for Tristar's rights to their monster to expire and offically rebrand the american one as Zilla, which was then utilized for Final Wars. They only gave the original icon to Tristar to allow them to make any Godzilla movie outside of Toho, BEFORE they even knew what the creature would look like. Before Emmerich came on board, who admitted in an interview that he never had interest in a Godzilla movie, and wanted to make a creature of his own. It's essentially an OC. The only drawn-in for fans he kept was of course the name.

They did that on purpose to give the films a sense of intensity and curiosity as to what the actual monster would look like and do. Toho rarely makes godzilla die in many movies, I mean, some of the movies he either dies, gets revived by someone, or gets thrown into the water..you may think that godzilla is all powerful and all but I mean look at it, TOHO made zilla look like crap, if it was another way around an it was American zilla vs godzilla, I bet you the American creators would make godzilla look like weak crap and zilla the strongest, I'm seriously sure it's a tie between them two, the only reason zilla looks practically weak with everything is because toho made him like that, not the American creators, if it was a fair fight then I'm sure, like 100% that they'd both become challenging one another and could become a tie the American creators made zilla jr, and throughout his series he took out a ton of mutated and alien monsters and won every battle (I think) toho made godzilla, and throughout his movies and series, godzilla beats all of the mutants and aliens (some battles too) Literally they're tied, the only reason people think zilla is a b*tch is because toho made him like that, not the American creators, I hope someone sees what I mean

I wouldn't of said any of that. Zilla was killed by regular missiles fired at it. Godzilla is able to tank an asteroid dropped onto him. Never seen the cartoon, but if we just go on basic facts of Zilla and Godzilla. Then it wouldn't of been a tie ever. Torpedoes knocked Zilla out for a few hours. Toho never made Zilla weak. The American Creators made Zilla weak.

@Zillagod Offical channel and productions Godzilla is also an icon in Japan, so Toho didn’t like this whole take on their creation. Godzilla represents the destruction the nukes brought upon Japan. To take that away takes away the meaning and symbolism, which is very important to Japan regardless of the appearance of the monster. That site was made by fans, but if you can find me where the actual officials of Toho said that they liked Zilla and only cared for the money then that’d be believable.
