One of the biggest lingering questions coming out of Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters season 1 is the question: "What caused the time dilation for the characters experienced in the show?" When Shaw returns home from Axis Mundi, he discovers that 20 years have passed, for Keiko, she learns that nearly 60 years have passed, but for the primary gang, only 2 years have passed. I hate what Hollow Earth is becoming in the Monsterverse. I don't think the writers of the show put that much thought into how everything works, but rather just created arbitrary rules to serve the story they wanted to tell. And besides that, I think Hollow Earth went wrong in GVK, with the wormhole-esque portal, because it is so different from what the previous Monsterverse movies were foreshadowing. In Godzilla 2014 Graham says the titans adapted to live underground to feed on the radiation coming from Earth's core. Kong Skull Island expands this by introducing the Hollow Earth theory and saying there are "entry points" in Skull Island, where titans can come in and out. Godzilla King of the Monsters introduced the idea of a network of tunnels, spreading all over the planet's crust, allowing titans to take short-cuts across the Earth. Monarch built Castle Bravo near the Bermuda Triangle because that's where Godzilla was sighted the most, then when they used the submarine to find Godzilla they most likely ended up at the center of the Triangle, where a tunnel to the Hollow Earth exists. And just like G14 stated, once they arrived there they found a radiation pocket which Godzilla was feeding upon and using to heal himself. So the next logical step in this progression would be for Godzilla vs Kong to show what these radiation pockets and air pockets are like. There was no need for this light show, time-space bending itself or whatever. All we needed were massive caves, perhaps with some small ecosystems inside them, and highly radioactive areas, everything connected by tunnels, basically the globe would be a huge Ant-farm. That would be much less complicated and would create far less questions and plot holes.

I can see the 1 Day = 1 Year dilation effecting people entering Axis Mundi just on there own, though I do remember episode 10 explaining Axis Mundi having some sort of electromagnetic gravitational phenomenon that allows the dilation to happen because gravity can affect space-time. And it's weird that I can understand this scientific explanation in Monarch and not write it off as technobabble, but not with Singular Point. Maybe because monarch doesn't bombard your eyes and ears with texts on screen and constant talking.

I don’t think 1 day = 1 year because of Shaw’s displacement. Keiko theorizes that because of the intense gravity, distortion is space time can be expected, but she doesn’t elaborate on that thought. I still find SP more compelling and well developed. This feels vague to me

There's only one problem I find with this theory. Keiko had been sending signals as far back as 2015, so she couldn't have possibly landed in AM during 2017. Which means the main group also didn't experience time dilation whilst entering AM, but they all experienced it while exiting, resulting in them landing during 2017.

But would the fact that a *titan* led them out of AM going home meant that they *shouldn't* experience the time dilation? Surely, they would have experienced it while entering? (Without a titan?) But i suppose the fact all 3 of them landed in the same time - if they DID experience it on the way down - would be hell of a coincidence... @@deltarosa Time dilation only speeds up or slows down an individual's perception of time. The problem I have with Dman's current theoryis that it suggests that going through AM could send you forwards or backwards in time, considering that MONARCH was receiving Keiko's signals as far back as 2015. So she couldn't have landed in AM during 2017.

I am going to put a theory down here about time dilation and space rifts before watching the entire video as I want to perform a "test" of my knowledge on the subject. Time dilation, from my understanding, stems from the fact that wherever you go in space, and depending on which universe you are in, time calculates differently than what we are used to on Earth. The measurement of time itself is man-made, as time does not exist outside of the cycles of day and night. So depending where you are in space, it could be minutes, hours, or even years apart from the measurements of Earth-time. The "worm holes" are essentially energetic tears in the fabric of a physical space that allows living beings to travel both in between time and place. For example, if I entered a portal where I live that took me directly to the other side of the planet in mere seconds, the day/night cycle and current time would be different from where I started. This wormhole theory reminds me of how the dragons could go "Between" in the Dragonriders of Pern series, almost exactly. The dragons could even go back in time and alter history by going Between. Now, could the Titans in the Monsterverse create/alter their own portals? Possibly. But this doesn't seem likely. They just use already existing energy rifts to get from one place to another in less time. Edit: So my theory seems to line up quite well with how it was explained in the video. The only thing I couldn't explain was how the characters were affected by the time warp, and that's because I haven't yet watched the show 😁 But anyway, about the linear portion. The energetic rifts that connect to the Hollow Earth are millions of intersecting lines that all connect to a different area. It is like a road with many pathways, as you had explained it, and each pathway has a different time gap for each one. Titans are able to stay on-course (specifically Godzilla) by staying on the correct path that intersects with the surface time. It all depends on how you get there.

And they made it very clear that for every mere moment that you were inside hollow Earth, a significant amount of time had passed on the outside. Which they clearly didn't keep to in the movies.

You think Lee got pulled into the portal even if he didn’t get in the pod? When project hourglass failed, Lee got pulled in the vortex himself, so I think it’s safe to think that he got pulled in because he told Keiko “It’s alright.” I think that’s because he knows he’s going with them even if he isn’t inside the capsule pod. He’ll just land in a different location on the surface since he can’t navigate the wormholes properly.

I Have a Theory that Axis Mundi is not the Only ''Pocket World'' between Hollow Earth and the Surface, there might be Many other Realms with each one of them having their own Biome, similar to the Racing Realms from Hot Wheels Acceleracers, but instead of race, it's of Titans, but they Wouldn't have the Time Dilation thing like Axis Mundi. Anyway it would be very cool if there where other Realms in the MV, in my Opinion.

My girlfriend whose name is Keiko says please pronounce her name correctly. She says it's the easiest Japanese name to pronounce as there is no Japanese accent. Kentaro and Hiroshi are examples of Japanese names that require the correct Japanese pronunciation to say it correctly

Plus now that we are going to Skull Island in Season Two I’m hoping we learn more about the mechanized Titan being built on the island according to the KOTM newspaper articles. I’m theorizing that in Season Two it will be explained that this mechanized Titan will be a substitute to the Titans and be able to pass through portals the way titans do.

Godzilla’s temple was in a cavern leading into the Hollow Earth, not the depth of the Hollow Earth itself. The sub passed through a similar vortex, but it wasn’t as intense

Well, that makes sense! It also explains that they aren't really in "the hollow earth" per se -- nor did Godzilla blast a hole physically into the Earth's core or some layer nearby in the mantle -- they're in some alien alternate dimension.

In GVK, we see scans of the planet and that there really is a Hollow Earth inside. Godzilla's atomic drill did blast its way to the center of the Earth. Otherwise, it wouldn't have reached them. If Hollow Earth was a different dimension, there would have been a need for a wormhole to reach it. Godzilla can't create wormholes, nor does the hole he blasts to Hollow Earth materialize a portal.

Legacy of monsters introducing the timeline thing made everything confusing. Like in the GvK, Godzilla was wreaking havoc in Hong Kong for hours while the people and kong were in hallow earth for hours yet there wasn't a change in timeline for both sides.

My only issue is the whole time displacement thing that happens in Monarch, DOESN’T happen in the movies. As seen in King of the Monsters and GvK, time works the same in Hollow Earth as it does on the surface. So I don’t know how they are going to explain this in the New Empire, it can’t just be different locations as GvK again contradicts that.

Makes sense to me. I love this type of sci-fi,where it takes modern theories on science and pushes them a tiny bit to make them plausible. Another KZbinr put out a video about Star Trek and how it's technobabble always has a few layers of pseudo-science so that it sounded plausible (warp engines fold space around it, dilithium is used to hold the energy from a matter-antimatter explosion to power the engine's folding of space, since the space is folding and the ship isn't moving, there's no time dialiation). Just give me enough for it to kind of make sense, because the movie world is never exactly the real world and it shouldn't be, because creatures the size of Godzilla literally can't exist. They'd have to eat like 100 metric tons worth of food and they'd take dumps the size of small buildings. I enjoyed your explanation and came to similar conclusions myself.

One problem with your theory is that they're already seeing the gamma pulses that Keiko is sending well before 2017. We don't know how much time passes after the establishment in the beginning of the series that it starts in April 2015. From then until the return to Kazakhstan it seems at most a week or two pass. Then there's a longer time jump as both Tim and Kentaro heal up but that's probably only a few months so we're later in 2015. Also, we need some time for Tim, Hiroshi and Kentaro to hook up with Apex and start working with them. 2 years sounds about right to make that happen. Otherwise, though, I think the theory makes sense. Time passes at the same speed on both sides. It's either the entry or the exit that causes the dilation.

In that case, it's possible they do land in the year 2015, but when they are sucked out of the portal to return to the surface, they are displayed by 2 years. This might happen because they fall into the portal with the adult Endoswarmer, but when they are sucked into the portal they are free-falling. The Ion Dragon was thrown in LONG before they enter and so his slipstream has diminished.

Ypur explanation doesn't make sense, if I understood correctly. So she landed decades later in the Hollow Earth but yet two Questions would retcon this. Why was it then that the amount of days and years are similar. About something like 50 days and 50 years, or about if I didn't understood the story incorrectly that the message from that lady came years before to the surface, so she had to be years before that there.
