A few things Klayton. I knew from the beginning that people would compare Minus One to New Empire, the same was King Kong '05 was compared to KSI. Both are completely different movies. I loved Minus One, and I look forward to New Empire. Right on the mark with it being very Showa-esque, especially since GvK went into the realm of fantasy. I'm kind of digging the reddish look on Godzilla, reminds me of the Millennium series Skar King has a whip which he apparrently wraps around his shoulder. Makes me wonder how he controls the First Titan Shimu I will not be comparing the film to Minus One and I am looking forward to it.

My thoughts are that the new big baddie is a power hungry alpha ape suppressing other members of Kong’s species in the hollow earth, and there’s a population of humans who either worship him as a deity or are also captives to his reign. And when “Scar King” (the hypothetical name of the main antagonist) tries to return to the surface to expand his domain, Kong and Big G team up to take him down and free Kong’s species. I personably love Godzilla’s new form, it’s definitely supposed to be a callback to Godzilla 2000. I’m seeing Minus One next weekend and I’m equally excited for it as I am for this one.

Trigger warning: this is a spicy take We started with a more grounded take on Godzilla in 2014. Moved onto a grounded but fun Kong movie in 2017. Got a less grounded, but more fun Godzilla movie in 2019 with some added si-fi elements. For me, the "Monsterverse" peaked then and there. Since 2021, the series feels like it's getting more and more "out there", less grounded. Now, I've never read (nor will I likely read) the supplemental material for the Monsterverse. Maybe that reveals the world of the Monsterverse to have always been this fantastical and the movies are just catching up to that? I don't know. I just know that the movies aren't what they used to be.

But the reason why it not longer grounded is because of audiences backlash how the 2014 films scenes weee hard to see and how the fight were teased When king of the monsters came it was of the fact that the fight were out of focus and the human were getting in the way So gvk was what the fans wanted action and fight were we can see what it is going on and doesn’t cut back when it need to

I just appreciate that we can have both. I don't want all Godzilla movies to be super dark and serious all the time. I also don't want them to be super fantastical and goofy all the time. I like that we have a sort of balance between Toho and Legendaries different directions. Loved minus one and I'm going to try and see it in theaters again it's a day one dvd pick up for me. I just love Godzilla pretty much not matter what the tone is.

Honestly I’m taking it as we’re just going in reverse and I’m all for it haha. Seeing how Reiwa era is being the most serious with Godzilla with Shin and -1, 2014 can fit in the Reiwa era. KOTM can totally fit in the millennium era, GvK can be Heisei era and GxK perfectly fits the Showa era haha.

It should be noted that Godzilla had semi-pink plates in the first two movies of the Millenium era, so him having them in this movie isn't really new. Personally, I would have made them dark orange or red, but I'm still hyped for this reguardless.

Kong is the more emotional character who's more human by comparison (plus he speaks a form of human communication godzilla can't do) so him being the main focus on the monster side of things makes sense. The MV was established to make godzilla and kong fight, the BOTH of them are the main kaiju of the MV and the faces of it. Neither one is a side character. The level of petty spoiled behavior godzilla fans have at times when godzilla typically gets 10-15 minutes in most of his movies is unreal 😂

No he's not, is he the one explaining his enemies motives? No he's not. Is he the one explaining his origins? No he's not. The exposition is done by the humans, not by him. They're the main focus til he shows up and bounces for a few minutes only to show up again. In between all that, you get humans. Godzilla being a metaphor isn't the same as carrying the story. He's a metaphor for nature AND Nuclear power, he has more than 1 meaning, tomoyuki Tanaka believed godzilla could represent more than thing outside of his original message for a reason. In the MV he's a force of nature, not a walking manifestation of nuclear power. His first movie in the MV was literally more about Ford than godzilla himself....how did you miss that?. Especially when gojira and minus 1 do it too Kong isn't replacing him, if that was the case then the MV would be going without godzilla in the picture. Godzilla appearing on a poster in gamera super monster is a cameo for example so....please look up what a cameo is and stop showing your spoiled side cause you ain't getting 99% godzilla 1% anything else. Keep in mind too....kong makes more money than godzilla in America....so...if anyone should wake up...it's you.

Kong can't move the story all on his own either, thats why we have his 3 main human characters voice everything for him. If you think godzilla cant do these things, and kong can, that makes kong the focus and godzilla sidelined. It is so obviously becoming more kong centric while godzilla is just there in his own franchise. The evidence is everywhere, the main story is mostly for kong, the villain is too, and he is getting a child to adopt. (besides all the butchering wingard has done to godzilla to begin with) they should have just kept it son of kong instead of godzilla X kong (obviously just wanted to drag more fans in with that title) I'm "spoiled" for wanting the main character to stay the main character i guess.

@@Dragoncurve Awesome man! I highly recommend Gamera Rebirth. It’s a limited series 6 episodes, about 40-50 mins each with 5 showa era monsters Gamera has fought before with gnarly redesigns. So many Easter eggs as well even involving a certain game company (Gamera fans if you know, you know) and it was that good that previously mentioned, it made Gamera have an pseudo official crossover with Godzilla in Battle Line haha. Definitely recommend it! I believe it’s also made by the same group who did the anime Netflix Godzilla trilogy but better!

Hey Klayton, I just read a theory you should be aware of. It suggests that the pink spined Godzilla we see in the trailer is a different individual than the Godzilla we already know. We now know there are more of Kong's kind in the Hollow Earth, so a potential revel in the movie may be that there are more of Godzilla's. It also said that this pink one may be a potential mate for the og Godzilla. Hope you see this or learn about this theory from somewhere.

Basically the kongs and stargate people follow the orange kong, he tried to take control of all the titans and some kongs and the iwi (people that lived on skull island) took his side which caused the titan war to start, now they're back and ready for round two so Godzilla and Kong need to kick his ass, bear in mind Kong was only thought to be the last of his species cause skull island was a protrusion of the hollow earth and we hardly saw any of it in GvK, I know its a lot more complicated that how I described it but I am HYPED!!!

I'm getting that silly cheesy monster flick vibe from the 60s and 70s, and it stands to reason, as I don't believe they can sustain, these films which so far up to now have been very good. Eventually it will sink into the morass of cgi prettiness instead of story. Going from Minus One to this (specially since I also watched the day before and I'm still reeling from it, processing stuff) is very striking and jarring. The dissonance from the first entries of the Monsterverse to this, and then considering the tone that they are going with Monarch while New Empire exists is crazy. My worries are the tone and that it doesn't have Pacific Rim Uprising vibes.

This movie would've gotten a better reaction from me if the villain wasn't Nega-Kong, the story was a bit more grounded and if they didn't double down on the nonsensical non-plot of GVK. Like if you're gonna do sci-fi, just send them into space also keep the universe contained within the movies, don't do the star wars thing and make a tv show, comic series and other supplemental material necessary to understand a single movie.

Bro, simply put...relax. This is only the first trailer and nothing (including CGI) is done. Godzillas new color is his "evolution" and the combination of Blue and Red (from being charged as in GKOM). The first two Godzilla films were dark & serious. Now, they're treating him like a sidekick/background character. Godzilla vs Kong should have been called Kong 3 because it was basically a Kong film. Not to mentioned they nuked Godzilla's abilities to make the fights "closer". This series has become a fucking joke. Wankers need to take a page from Toho and get back to making serious Godzilla films. This film is going to be trash.
