I have spread that far and wide. It was the most epic thing to happen in the Olympic history ever. People who never would have listened to Gojira, are now fans. Even A priest liked it. He, in fact, liked the entire opening ceremony and wants to know more about Gojira.

As a Brit, I was so disappointed we didn’t showcase heavy metal at the London opening ceremony in 2012. The Olympics were literally held in the same area of London Iron Maiden are from, so they’d have been perfect for it. Absolute credit to Paris for doing this. Gojira are epic and this performance is an absolute classic

Ah çà ira! is a very popular french revolutionary song. It can either mean It will be ok, or we've had enough. It says "It will be ok, we'll hang all the aristocrats to the lamp posts and the people will be ok. The castle is La Conciergerie, it was the prison where political opponents to the Revolution awaited to be executed by guillotine. Marie-Antoinette spent her last days there before being beheaded. The executions didn't take place at La Conciergerie but at the Place de la Révolution (revolution square), now called Place de la Concorde. You can see a big obelisk in the middle of the square, it was brought from Egypt by Napoleon. It stands where the guillotine once stood. The boat is from the City of Paris' coat-of-arms, it's motto is Fluctuat Nec Mergitur, the ship is beaten by waves but does not sink. It's a symbol of resilience. The singer is a metalhead, she was a metal singer before starting an opera singer career.

Ok, and by the way our flag represents the french royalty (white color) contained between blue and red, the colors of Paris where most of the revolutionnary actes occurred. Well this white color IS a reminder for everybody : never forget to control every power, and do not give them any liberty that could restrain yours. Révolution !

I would just like to correct one point: the obelisk of the Place de la Concorde comes from the temple of Amon in Luxor in Egypt, but was not brought back to France by Napoléon. It was offered to Charles X in 1830 (with another one) and erected on the square 6 years later. The second one is still in Egypt.
@Tiisiphone4 ай бұрын
@@bhromur Thanks for correcting me. I read in several books that the obelisk was brought to France after the Egypt campaign. Yet another proof that many sources can't be trusted!

Ah! ça ira, ça ira, ça ira (Ah! It will be OK) is a revolutionary song, whose chorus, which symbolizes the French Revolution, was heard for the first time in May 1790. Its author, a former street singer soldier named Ladré, had adapted songs from innocuous words about the Carillon national1, a very popular contradance tune due to Bécourt, violinist at the Théâtre des Beaujolais, and which Queen Marie-Antoinette herself often liked to play on her harpsichord2. This tune is notably used as the main theme of the 4th movement of the Symphony in A major by the German composer Friedrich Witt, written around 1790. The title and the theme of the chorus of this song were inspired by the imperturbable optimism of Benjamin Franklin, representative much appreciated by the French people of the Congress of the 13 colonies of America in Paris, from December 22, 1776 to July 12, 1785, who, when asked for news of the American War of Independence, invariably replied in his bad French: “ça ira, ça ira”. During the Revolution, the text was transformed by the sans-culottes into murderous apostrophes against the aristocracy and the clergy.

As you mentioned the edit you watched blacked out the outro for unknown reasons. The band and boat gets draped with the red streamers and it makes it that much more metal. There is also some smoke and pyro. If you look around on youtube a bit you can find versions that are not blacked out and I encourage you to watch it.

From what I've heard, the composer pretty much told them the key and tempo along with some tiny other notes, then left the rest up to them. Please forgive my lack of deep musical knowledge, I know I'm probably 100% wrong in the details but the composer pretty much said "Key of G# minor. 120 BPM for 1 minute 30 seconds then key change to A major for 45 seconds. Etc..."

Actually, it wasn't exactly Gojira - it was Gojira WITH opera singer Marina Viotti AND philharmonic Orchestre de Paris (out of the scope of the cameras). "Ah, ça ira ! Les aristocrates à la lanterne, on les pendra" means "It will be fine ! We will HANG the aristocrats at the street light [posts]." French Revolution popular song - except by the time Marie Antoinette was condemned to death, Doctor Guillotin had invented the guillotine, in hope to make the execution less painful than hanging.

Hey man, if you want to see the video uninterrupted then just watch the music video. This is a reaction. That means it has to get stopped for two very important reasons. First is because KZbin will take it down for copywrite issues. (Fair use allows for people to educate while using copywrited material) which brings us to the second point, it's a REACTION VIDEO.

@@TempleMusicAcademy Dude. You're not even close to allow yourself this kind of attitude. First of all, remove your face from the video. You can't afford the extra cringe and a voiceover works better anyway. Second, focus on what's actually interesting and don't mention the obvious. We don't care. If you can't find 5 minutes worth of interesting things to say about the performance, then make a different video.
