Beerus revealing that there are 12 universes is like Raditz revealing Goku being a Saiyan from outer space. In DB, Goku became the strongest man on earth. In DBZ, Goku became the strongest mortal in the universe. After seeing this movie, the amount of fan art for the other 12 destroyers exploded and everyone wanted to see the infinite possibilities this opened up.

I grew up watching dragon ball, loved it to bits. I don't watch DB Super, but I did watch this movie the year it came out. For me personally, this is the end of the series. Goku had always found a way to win, he always fought against the odds giving everything he has just like he did here. Only, this time, even 100% wasn't enough. That's how life is. Sometimes we want something more than anyone else in this world, we pour our sweat and blood into achieving our goals/dreams, and even then it isn't enough. We cannot control every aspect of our life, we can't always win even if we try our hardest. It's essential to learn the lesson Goku had taught us in Dragon Ball Z, that is, to never give up. But this lesson right here is equally important. It doesn't matter how strong and determined you are; there are battles you just can't win.

This is why I prefer the Movie it's Dragon Ball at it's best while in Super Goku defying Beerus one last time by telling him not to decide what his limits are is inspirational to me this is so much better this is the first time Goku gives up knowing full well that no one can stop Beerus he's fully prepared to accept his fate even if it is enraging it really is a great way to develop Goku as a character. In addition to that Beerus remarking to that Goku is his second strongest foe is also a really great & beautiful way to tie back into the early days when Master Roshi wanted to give his students a shadow to chase to show them that no matter how strong they get there would always be someone stronger just waiting around the corner. It was at that moment I realized Beerus was going to spare them because in Goku he found a worthy rival that he wanted to keep around while also giving the Saiyan a shadow to chase after by claiming him as the second strongest. Which is a great way to help push Goku to even greater heights than before just like what Jackie Chun did all those years ago which is a surprisingly human motivation plus both Beerus & Roshi's motivations are also great ways to nicely tie back into the deep roots & philosophy of martial arts "The betterment of ones self & the pushing of not just your own boundaries but the limits of those who came before you".

TL:DR, I am calling Goku Saiyan Jesus. Since being the best amongst 6 righteous Saiyans desperately praying in a circle, and accidentally summoning forth the chosen Saiyan God makes just as much sense as Kami becoming a god by ridding himself of any evil impurities left in his heart to become a God. If you think about SSG a bit more religiously rather than factually. 6 "righteous" saiyans may as well be saints, considering how battle hungry and blood lusted a lot of saiyans really were. In an act of desperate, religious worship. The best of the six was elevated to the height was acknowledged as worthy of being given the title of a god. Considering Kami had to take a similar path to his godhood, this is my personal head canon as to why the ritual even works, even though it kind of feels like a cheat. The scene where Goku acknowledges this fact is a hint into this theory working well enough. He has a community surrounding him that doesn't doubt him whatsoever, as if they already kind of view him as if not a god, the strongest pillar in their community. This along side the fact he resummoned God Ki to delete Beerus's blast. It kind of just doubles down on the fact that Goku finally accepted that he is worthy of being elevated to the status of godhood through his community.
