Never spray paint anything that gets handled often. It WILL come off. That being said, it’s instant gratification. Our Delta Trask champagne bronze broke the bank because we had to buy a beverage faucet for the bar area

THANK YOU! This is the best video on how to actually use Rub n buff. So many other videos literally just show people rubbing the product on handles etc. You actually took steps to show what we need, and you mentioned the most important key things which are that this stuff is NOT food safe and NOT waterproof, so sealing it and letting it cure is fundamental. I was going to buy this for my vanity handles in the bathroom, but watching your video really made me reconsider.

If I may give my take as someone who did something similar, this is but a temporary fix, let me explain, this being a surface coating it is bound to flake away sooner rather than later, think of all the chemicals used in a kitchen, oils, food residue, water deposits etc... There is another way to create this effect and make it permanent, what most people do not realize is that most faucets are made of brass with a chrome layer on top (at least here in Italy), I have used sandpaper or alternatively a dremel to strip away the chrome and then I polished the brass, the result is a shining or dull golden faucet which will stay that way permanently provided a little care. If you want to go the extra ocd mile you could apply a layer of transparent, bake on, powdered polymer paint, to prevent the forming of patina and locking in the finish you like most. There are also chemical ways to strip chrome which I do not suggest at all due to the formation of noxious vapors and such. It is a VERY labour intensive process but the end result is amazing. Just my suggestion for the most insane diy-ers watching this video.

@@TheHouseonOctoberDrive You are most certainly welcome, but seriously if you want to do it take a peek at people doing restorations of old steel items and copy/paste their tools into your garage... I bought a Zorro lighter which is solid machined brass, it had been chromed and then had some nitrite gold finish, it is roughly zippo sized and it took me something like 5 hours to remove all the finish to expose the brass, I dare not imagine how long it would take to do an entire faucet by hand 🤣🤣🤣

I used rub n buff on an altoids can. It didn't last long if that helps anyone. I plan on trying to sand a bit first then apply but it will either have to be touched up or sealed with something. Now on wood it lasts a long time
@tonysopranosduck4162 жыл бұрын
Rub n Bud is not waterproof. And as it’s a wax, it’s basically sitting on top of a non porous surface and so needs to be sealed with a top coat of sealer. Sanding first definitely helps to add grip for the color on top to grab onto but if longevity is your goal, sanding as prep and then sealing with a quality top coat sealer would likely give you a sustained finish.

I just tried using rub n buff for the first time on drawer handles. They were a brushed nickel finish and i wanted them to be a gold/brassy color . I looked online at samples of all the colors and chose gold leaf. It left a gold sheen but i feel like i can still see the nickel too much. Like it softened it with a slight gold but not anywhere near as drastic of a change that you demonstrate here. Im disappointed. Not sure what i should do. Should i just go a shade darker and try antique gold or European gold? TIA

Thanks for the video. I noticed you didn't use primer. Will that affect how well it holds up?
@TheHouseonOctoberDrive3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Rub n' Buff directions state it can be used on clean or painted surfaces. I'm not sure how a primer would affect the finish, but so far mine's still holding up 100%. I think if it's on a sink or near water, the sealer is more important because the Rub n Buff is not waterproof. If you use primer and get a better result let me know!
