@14:00 This is a really good sign that things are working out between these two! If there was any form of territoriality dispute in your clowder there would have been a hissing/terrified/aggressive nightmare when the newcomer tried to also eat food that current resident cat was already eating out of the same dish. So far so good! Also in regard to Pablo and his weight/eating around Toby, some things that I found helped the cats in my family slim down and also increase their daily water intake (so important for animals with minimal thirst drives like cats that descended from a desert cat!) was by replacing half of their dry food with wet food, doing wet only, or adding water to their dry food when we feed them. If you've ever tried to lose weight yourself, you might have heard you gotta up your water intake. Same thing applies here. They'll feel more full but more of the volume they are intaking is water, not food. This should also help Pablo feel fuller and not eat as much of Toby's food when he sneaks some.

I think the hoop house is a great idea! Want to share some experience with y'all. Every farm is different, so who knows, this might be useful to someone. I have a bit of a problem with putting geese and ducks in with chickens in the winter. Duck and goose manure can get tracked into a crust on the top of the bedding, especially hay/straw/wood shavings. The chickens don't like to scratch it, so it gets wet, stays wet and stinks. Then it doesn't decompose. (I have a stall like that from last winter. I have to break it up with a tiller to get it out.) I've found that wood chips, like shredded trees from a tree service, works a whole lot better than hay or straw. If you can find a tree service company that will deliver you a truck load now and then, the birds can create compost with higher nitrogen and organic carbon. Or better yet, get the tree service to bring you ALL their chips, you will have enough to fertilize your entire farm. I run the composted bedding through a (Newer* brand) manure spreader in the pasture with a lawn tractor with some lime, wood ashes and grass seed sprinkled on top. Starting out, my soil was dead from over farming, and all I had was weeds. After 10 years, it's all lush grass and not a drop of rain runs off. Best wishes to you! Am gonna keep watching to see how this turns out.
@StoneKathryn3 жыл бұрын
That is a great way to revitalize your soil! Wonderful. I can't keep my ducks inside the barn in the winter. They have a coop outside. I've heard leaves are good to use for ducks too but wood chips sounds great. Thanls for sharing this.

A pair of horizontal centipede fangs, and a pair of spider fangs; so 4 venomous fangs total. 8 eyes obviously; with some eyes giving it really good view of its sides and rear; helping it keep track of its flanks and allowing it to make the full use of its body. It is long and flexible like a centipede with dozens of legs, but the legs are spider-like (think house centipede, but even more spider-like legs). And a puffy spider butt on the end for producing the silk for webs, support lines, tangling opponents, and wrapping prey in a silk coffin. Not as dangerous as a Bearantula, unless you make it extra large. But it can be useful if you need a creepy crawly.

When I was taking my dog they had a big scale built into the front counter that was low to set cages or to easily be stepped onto . Even just passing it Charlie would walk on just to smell it. I'm sure they wouldn't mind you getting a quick weight just to set your mind at ease that he's eating enough. You also could make some yummy bone broth. It's really easy. Especially with a crockpot. You can use saved bones or buy cheap chicken for it. Then you get both cooked chicken & bone broth. You can remove the meat after it's cooked & then keep cooking for a day or so. The bones might even dissolve some. Just don't use anything with too much or any seasoning bad for them. But most of all strain it for any little bone pieces & toss them. There's recipes online. I saw one vet just use a whole chicken once. I tried it for my cats but they just wanted the meat. So now they occasionally get freezer burnt boiled chicken as a treat with nothing added. My Dad actually had an extremely thin border collie. Even too thin for the border collie breed. He'd feed her lots of things. She liked everything in stew but the peas. Those she left in the bottom of the bowl. I've never figured out how she did that. He'd also get her cheap hot dogs. Until one time they were so cheap she refused to eat them. Kind of scary actually. Uh I don't recommend more than the occasional bite of a humans hot dog. Better to do things like boiled meat or pumpkin.y cats still get some though. I especially liked your comment of being consciously aware of short and long-term goals for anything you build so that it could be multipurpose as well as temporary, if it need be. Buildings on the farm are very different today than they were 100 years ago or 200 years ago. They were built with an entirely different purpose and within an entirely different type of wooden structure! They were meant to be permanent And, thereby “it took a lot of people to raise a barn!!”…. But today’s vintage farms especially, raising a barn is not necessarily the answer to all the needs of me farmers. I’m so excited to see what this is gonna be like inside and how you divide it up… As well as whether or not the running ducks will become socially a part of the group. I’m also anxious to see if you will incorporate an area with an incubator in it or is that something you’ll take into your house as you have been thus far? In fact I’m just curious how many purposes you will create from this “hoop building “in the future!… I am fascinated with it, Overall!!😊❣️❣️ I’m excited to see Mamma and Molly Kitten becoming More exploratory out into the farm❣️It’s been my experience that Barn cats never quite fully trust other animals… Or people they are always just a little skittish but I do think with your coaching they will settle down a lot. I don’t know what to advise you regarding the cat that wants to eat from Toby‘s food except ask the vet any ideas he might have but the other thing might be to put a lid on his food and pick it up and if there’s a shelf in that doghouse put it up which I know the cat can still get to it but it makes an Implied statement of “Not For Your Liesurely Enjoyment”…But I realize that would take extra time out of your day. As well as Toby not having access to it all the time…. But, if you can’t just eat at it picking here and there when he wants to and Hass to be serious about eating he might begin to eat quicker and better. We had a dog that was just snacking all day long and that’s what we were told to do. Put the food out for about 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes at night and then put it away. So there’s my thoughts I don’t know if it’ll help or not. But maybe you can put it out when you first start feeding the animals and when you come back around as you’re getting done put it back up. It really is a tricky thing trying to figure out what animals really want it. Another thing we did for our dog was give them green beans which is really good for dogs with long hair it helps shiner coat up and it’s actually good for them and I think your vet will tell you that is true too. So adding that variety to his dog food. Some people use frozen green beans and you can do your own research about that. You might even want to just grow them for him which that’s even the best nutrition. So these are my thoughts and I wish you the best I’m getting Toby to eat better

I had one of my cuckoo marans go broody on 7 eggs recently in my big barn, under a table. Then, 4 days ago, a second hen decided to share the nest. This morning, I heard cheeps. I think 3 chicks so far, but not sure how many eggs are under them now. Blocked off the area to keep them safe for a few days. I'm having trouble finding where all the hens lay too. Mine are full free range, and they have stopped using the boxes in the coop. Several have moved to roosting in the barn, too, and not in the coop. Going to be rebuilding the run off the coop this fall. May have to pen them up for a few days to retrain them to the coop.

Our upstate New York home had 40 inches of snow last December 17th. It CRUSHED our pre-bent tube frame greenhouse overnight! It was a 16 foot by 32 footer. It's hard to over-estimate how heavy snow can get. The only tubes that weren't flattened had been supported underneath with some four-by-fours that were erected to support some electrical service. PLEASE put enough vertical support near the middle of your arches! Even if it's just temporary for the winter months.

Morgan did you talk to your local NCRS to see if they could help you with the cost of the high tunnel structure? If you grow vegetables inside it in the ground during the summer season they have funds to help you purchase your greenhouse kit. That is cool that your friend is going to help construct it from raw materials and to use his invention. Nice Ginny cam. That's great that you wash the dog bowl too. The least washed out dish on a farm is the dog dish. I always wash out the dog bowl, yes it is slimy because of his slobber but he deserves a fresh bowl too. Good to see. Our chickens always love tomatoes. And watermellon. They will eat a watermellon down to the thin skin. Thanks for this Morgan.

Maybe Morgan could try feeding Toby & Pablo at the same time? Pablo food on a table, so Toby can't eat it, but in the same area? Good luck

Love watching your vlogs. I’m currently watching the oldest so I’ve got a ways to go. I just want to recommend Muscovy ducks. They have such a great temperament and some say they are more goose then duck. But I think you would love them.

dont forget to take the cost of the tool and the value of the time it takes to bend those poles when comparing the cost of the pre built vs the DIWYF (do it with your friend) costs

I don't know why but I'd love to see the invention & especially find out if it's cheaper for folks. If so it could really help out a lot of smaller farmers.

I would LOVE to see a video about your orchard! What exact varieties you've planted, how they are doing, what maintenence you have, obstacles you've faced with it, etc. Would be super interesting! Also everytime you say Carmen I just think of 'Where In the World Is armen Sandiego' and it just tickles me a little.
